The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn Book Summary

There were Bridgertons before the eight alphabetically named siblings. In the third of the Bridgerton Prequel series, we go back to where it all began. . . from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn

She was in the wrong place...

Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own. Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify. While visiting a friend on the Dorset coast, Poppy is pleasantly surprised to discover a smugglers’ hideaway tucked inside a cave. But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain’s bed…

He found her at the wrong time...

Known to society as a rascal and reckless privateer, Captain Andrew James Rokesby actually transports essential goods and documents for the British government. Setting sail on a time-sensitive voyage to Portugal, he’s stunned to find a woman waiting for him in his cabin. Surely, his imagination is getting the better of him. But no, she is very real—and his duty to the Crown means he's stuck with her.

Can two wrongs make the most perfect right?

When Andrew learns that she is a Bridgerton, he knows he will likely have to wed her to avert a scandal—though Poppy has no idea that he is the son of an earl and neighbor to her aristocratic cousins in Kent. On the high seas, their war of words soon gives way to an intoxicating passion. But when Andrew’s secret is revealed, will his declaration of love be enough to capture her heart…?

A lovely story and a lovely adventure. This was a joy to read. So well written: funny, interesting, captivating. Love the characters, one of the best books in the series.

Witty!. I love reading about the Bridgerton family! The characters were fun to meet.

The other miss bridgerton. Love all Julia Quinn’s books. This was no exception! Couldn’t put it down and then was sorry it was over!

Loves the Rokesby family. I loved reading this series now want more. Loved Billie and George super cute and so was little Edmond.

Andrew 🥰. I couldn’t stop smiling throughout this book. I absolutely loved the relationship between Poppy and Andrew, how they compliment each other. Very well written.

Confused. The book had its charms. However I was a little confused on the build up of chemistry. The ending felt rushed and a bit miss placed.

Mi siri. Tu mio Te amo

Favorite JQ Book. This book has made me love Julia Quinn all over again. I was coming to my limit as I finished up the original Bridgerton series, but this book had me smiling and laughing out loud way too much. Great and unexpected story from the usual tropes.

Excellence. Intriguing and exciting. Curiosity gets someone into trouble. Then it’s more trouble for the captures. The more time goes by the more intriguing it becomes. It kept me captive through the book. I could barely put down this treasure.

Brought my heart to the vast ocean and more!. I truly enjoyed the poetic and sometimes stream-of-consciousness language of this book. They are mostly soothing and all contributed to the wholeness of the story. My favorite part is that sunny day in Lisbon, oh, that really reminded me of the old days when I lived in a place with way more sunshine than my current residence and was able to travel all I want and hangout with interesting people...(It was early 2021 when I read the book, it should explain.) Another thing I’ve noticed, as a non-native-English-speaker and strangely enjoyed while reading, is its slightly unusual choice of words. I should have read more than 15 JQ novels by now, and this one appeared to have the most unfamiliar words to me. Although my intention is not to improve my english through reading the book, it’s still very nice to build up my (maybe not so useful)vocabulary with a delightful heart-warming novel.

Inconsistent story line. I loved the story. Andrew and Poppy were great and their dialogue witty. What killed me was the inconsistency in the family back story. I just read Edmund’s story. Career mIlitary man marries Cecilia 7 years prior to this book. But this book says he married violet at 19, which would mean he was never in the military. Also, at the end of Edmund’s book there is a reference to Andrews adventures, but now it’s 7 years later before he finds his love...

It Quinn’s best work. Coming from a huge Julia Quinn fan, and someone who was looking forward to Andrew’s story, I was very disappointed. This book was OKAY. Definitely not one of my favorites by Quinn. The filler was hard to read sometimes. Skipped a few pages to get past certain conversations. Practically skipped a chapter because I had a hard time reading it. I don’t think this was her best work. I found myself mostly annoyed with the protagonist at times. I’m a big fan of the author, but this book was definitely not my cup of tea.

great romance. I enjoyed this prequel to The Bridgerton series. It had some absolutely hilarious scenes. I was laughing out loud and disturbing others quite callously. Poppy Bridgerton is too curious and gets herself kidnapped by “smugglers”. Captain Andrew James has secrets that must be kept the first being his identity. I think this is a very good book. There are several steamy sex scenes in it.

Good book. Absolutely loved it!!

Spies and brigands. I love Julia Quinn’s books. This one was an enjoyable story with the best dialogue between the main characters I’ve read in quite a while. Their banter and verbal challenges put a smile on my face. The story did take a while to get to the action. As Andrew knew who Poppy was he could have taken her into his confidence earlier than he did, but this would have messed up their surprise reunion at dinner at the end. It reminded me of the ending scene in Sense and Sensibility, I could feel it. This book is more about two people getting to know each other than two characters learning from their pasts or getting over a personal crisis. If you like Julia’s work, you will enjoy this.

Brilliant. A wonderful well written story. A very different idea for a historical romance and I did enjoy the author's humour throughout the story.
