The Girls in the Water by Victoria Jenkins Book Summary

'WOW! This book was fantastic, I loved it. I literally binge read it because I couldn't put it down... if I could give it 6 stars I would.' Bonnie's Book Talk

When she woke, she found herself in darkness. She couldn’t move. She was going to die and she had no idea why…

When the body of Lola Evans is found in a river in a local park on a cold winter’s morning, Detective Alex King and her new recruit Chloe Lane are called in to lead the hunt for the killer.

Days later, another girl goes missing, and another body is found in the water. It seems the two girls shared a troubled history, and were members of the same support group. What secrets were they keeping? And who is the monster preying on these vulnerable girls?

As the detectives start to piece together the clues, it becomes clear that the murderer's reach goes even further - back into the painful past of Chloe Lane herself. Chloe realises that she too is in danger – as she uncovers secrets about her own brother’s death which someone will kill to keep hidden.

Alex and Chloe are soon caught in a race against time to reach the next victim before it’s too late... and they must face terrifying truths from their own lives to have a chance of catching the killer.

Chilling and totally compelling with an utterly surprising twist, The Girls in the Water is perfect for fans of Robert Bryndza, Sarah Hilary, and Patricia Gibney.

The Girls In The Water. Enjoyed the book. A lot going on but they still figured it out in the end.

Eh. I like the plot. Super hard to follow with an overflow of characters.

Fantastic. This was my 1st time reading a murder mystery and it was FANTASTIC! 100% recommend!

Painfully slow and repetitive. This book could have been written in 1/3 the pages and been the better for it. Shame an editor didn’t point that out. Disappointing. Good characters.

The Girls in the Water. Very well written. Not too easy to solve. Characters were believable. Good book.

Mediocre. Not horrible, but not all that good either. Very redundant. Lots of rhetorical questions asked, repeatedly. The ending felt rush. What charges were filed, what sentences were handed down, was Chloe reinstated, and what about Harry? Sorry, just also-so read.

The Girls in the Water. Started slow was hard to get into story line. Then it took off and really started coming together. The book had a good plot and would tell others about the books. Thanks k

The Girls In The Water. Strong female characters. Great read.

Great book!. Couldn’t put this down! Quite the page turner!

Keeps you guessing!. Once you start reading you can’t put it down. All the twists and turns keep you guessing and eager to find the killer.

Great Book. The book makes you realize what is so important and special in life. Enjoy hard to put down once you start reading

A great read!. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Believable characters and a fast paced plot! Definitely worth reading

Above average but nothing special. A well written book (the reason for 4* rather than 3*) but the story wasn’t as gripping as others in this genre that I have read recently. I felt no tension and anticipation waiting to find out who was behind the crimes and no surprise when the details were revealed.

Good storyline. aka. SherleyB. Enjoyable read, liked the story looking forward to reading more ebooks by Victoria Jenkins...

What a read. This book is excellent. The twists and turns kept me on my toes and I couldn’t put it down. Great characters, great novel.

Too long, bit repetitive. The basic story here is good but the author repeats thoughts over and over. Found myself skim reading page after page.

True 5 ⭐️. I liked the fact the main protagonist was an barren unbalanced woman who although in severe mental anguish managed to care about her partner, boss and catch an awful criminal who was the worst example of a man ….. Didn’t like “Dithering Dan” , who was really just a bloke at a desk , not a real copper ….. Great read , great characters… now for number 2 ….. !!

Predictable and formulaic. Not a book a would personally recommend.

Fab. Brilliant first novel, couldn’t put it down - looking forward to the next!

Rubbish. Rubbish book and complete nonsense about Chloe’s ‘cult’ - not a cult religion -would give no stars if I could! Writer should do better research

The Girls in the Water. At last a detective story I enjoyed from cover to cover with twists and turns. It is comfortable to read. I’d put any other book aside to read this author.

Girls in the Water. A great read made most enjoyable with the realistic characters involved. Just enough quirkiness without over egging!! I liked the gradual build up which made it hard to put down.

The Girls in the Water. Absolutely Brilliant Story !! Could not put it down, I so look forward to the next book with Alex and Chloe.

Loved it!. Well written and kept me glued the entire time! Can't wait to read the next one!!

Girls in the Water. Not usually a fan of crime fiction novels, but I loved this. The characters are engaging and the ending unpredictable.

Gripping stuff.. Great read. I couldn’t put it down. Stayed up way too late trying to finish and hoping Chloe was going to be okay..
