Im Kampf um den ikonischen Gipfel bewiesen beide Seiten ihre heroische Opferbereitschaft. Tausende gaben ihr Leben: die einen für »mia patria«, die anderen für »mein Vaterland«. Vergessen ist der Mut des Einzelnen. Jedoch die Legende vom heroischen Stand der 300 Tiroler Standschützen und der Mut der italienischen Angreifer lebt weiter.
