In High Cotton. Denise is a brilliant writer who has once again outdone herself. In High Cotton is an action packed, non stop, amazing story revolving around Kate’s escape from the Hospital and Neely Kate’s past. Because of Kate’s note indicating she is “looking forward to my family reunion”, Rose is encouraged to go away for her weekend as previously planned. The plan is for Joe and Jed to protect Neely Kate from Kate. Neely Kate’s story unfolds and past is revealed to Joe and Witt. Joe, Witt, and Jed work to protect Neely Kate, but it becomes unclear who is after her. Kate states she is back to protect her “baby sister” while she creates havoc by leaving clues and dead bodies. Kate disappears with the promise to find out how safe Neely Kate is from her past. Mason turns up as a friend but is suspicious of everything including Rose’s weekend get away. He continues to ask questions until Neely Kate is certain he is no longer a friend.

Excellent books!. I have been reading the Rose Gardner and Neely Kate books for awhile. They are the best book series I have read in along time.

Love this book!!!. Wow! These stories just keep getting better and better!! Denise never fails at providing a well written thrill ride! This one is no exception! Neely Kate is in deep trouble. Her crazy half sister is on the loose and leaving dead bodies in her basement, her hot boyfriend seems distant and secretive lately, her brother’s a Deputy Sheriff who’s trying to protect her while Neely Kate’s hidden criminal past is making a sudden reappearance. Oh my stars and garters what’s a girl to do? Square up those shoulders and nail trouble in the nose!

Love NK. What a great character. I am so glad the author did a separate series on Neely Kate. I love these books and stories

Amazing. Denise has done it again. I am a fan of Neely Kate and her no nonsense attitude! There are so many ups and downs and turns of the best kind in this book. I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait until the next one!

Fantastic!. I cannot say enough about how much I love this storyline and view from this characters side. She has so many aspects and hearing her story just fills gaps! It truly is another great addition to this Rose Gardner series!

WOW! Neely Kate and Jed…total WOW!. I love this series...the Rose Gardner and Neely Kate series...they are tied together in a story line. This book focuses on Neely Kate, and loving this character I was glad to see Denise Grover Swank focus on her. One thing I love about these books is the characters grow as people...well, at least most of them do. This book is a mystery as well as a romance...and I love her boyfriend Jed...and the focus on him in this book. I recommend this book and the entire series. You really need to read the entire series in order --- otherwise it will not make a lot of sense. But this series is so worth the money and the time. I cannot recommend this book or this series too much!

Better and better. The Rose Gardner series and Neely Kate series gets better and better with every book. I’m reading a book a day and still cannot get enough! Even when my eyes hurt I push through because the suspense and mystery is so intriguing. I recommend these books to everyone. They’re addictive. Don’t start reading them if you have anything important to do, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t get to it.

I just love NK!. Everything I was hoping for and more! DGS does such a great job of weaving in all sorts of twists and turns into this amazing story. I laughed, I teared up, I was on the edge of my seat. I love that NK is trusting more people with her past and how much support she’s getting from those who love her. And ow ow! Who knew Jed would be such a romantic?! The ending left me dying to know what’s going to happen next. Definitely a must read for all NK and Rose fans!

Another great read by DGS!. 5 stars because this book was very hard to put down. I was very interested in NK’s life and so I was pleased to begin reading about her. (A small side note-I found a lot of typos and it was a little bothersome because I am just OCD with that kind of thing.)

Love Neely-Kate. Neely-Kate, I just love you!!! Well the Simmons Family is never simple affair. Whether Neely Kate is ready or not her sister Crazy Kate is going to love her. Thankful Joe, Jed, and Muffy are there to help with all the crazy.

Once again AMAZING!. As always Denise does not disappoint! I am so happy she put Jed and Neely Kate together as a happy couple! I absolutely love them together and can’t get enough of them. This had everything suspense, love, crime and so much more! I HIGHLY recommend all of Denise’s books she is a remarkable writer who never disappoints.

Amazing. Thrilling. From beginning to end.

Amazing!. So i finally read and finished reading IHC last night. I have to say at least 3 things. 1). I like the fact Joe is just starting to ‘deal’ with Jed because they only have 1 thing in common, protecting NK. 2). I shouldn’t say hate but I hate Mason. He is always in someone’s business. I wonder if he gets hurt soon, I shouldn’t say that either but he needs to just lay off of Rose and NK. He’s basically starting to stalk them and that’s just wrong. 3). Kate is protective of NK in the most crazy way, I think that’s why all of this even happened with what happened to NK years ago. Wondering if Kate had to go through what NK was. I know they both lost their babies. So that’s something in common. Still trying to figure out where Kate was for 2 years when she left Little Rock. 4). I absolutely love Jed and NK together. I wonder if they will get married later on. They both help each other and so so glad they are finally happy.

A must read!! Is it November yet? 😊. Getting to know NK in a whole new like is unbelievable, and I love her even more for it! Plus is there ever a time where the Simmons family can’t keep looking over their shoulders? From the beginning to the end Denise keeps you on edge for what could happen next. If it isn’t the Simmons family than it’s Ms.Rose Garden herself that keeps the little town of Henryetta on its toes!

Answered big questions. I will start this review by saying I enjoy a lot of Denise’s books, not just Rose. But Rose is the one I read first, and she got me hooked. Before reading the Rose Gardner series, I was sort of a book snob. I thought “classics” were the only books worth reading. When I was pregnant with my five year old I couldn’t read enough. I loved mysteries and decided to try a series starter-Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes. I instantly loved Rose and how relatable she was. I loved how I couldn’t put the books down. Soon, Rose felt like an old friend. It was fun to see her grow and make new connections with people. Fast forward to this year...I read this book late nights while nursing my newborn (again lol) and it was just what I needed. I don’t look forward to many things as much as I wait for a new release of these books. I loved that Kate was a big part of the story and we learn more about what she’s doing behind the scenes. Neely Kate is my favorite character and I can’t get enough of her! This book provided her with some closure that she waited for, for a long time now. I have a feeling it’s leading up to a new chapter of her life that she deserves! I tried to read slowly but I finished this entirely too fast.

Boring. This is by far the least interesting of Denise Grover Swank’s books. It is repetitive and slow. The characters are poorly developed in this book, and the story line is thin. I do not recommend this book.

Denise Grover Swank hits it out of the park again!!. This book was released this morning. I’ve spent most of my day reading. I LOVE these books. Just when you think you’ve gotten some of the characters figured out... you find out you don’t. Not at all. Yet, there are characters that you can always believe in and root for. I love how these books make me think of real people too. None of us are all good or all bad; we’re all shades of gray. Already I’m impatiently waiting for the next book!

Always good. Neely Kate is still unsure of herself. This book was a good insight to Neely Kate and how she views life and relationships. If you read this book I highly recommend checking out the Rose Gardner Mystery Series and Rose Gardner Investigations Series too. This a great interlude until the next Up Shute Creek.

Incredible!. Wow! This is now officially my favorite Swank book so far. She has a way of weaving a story that keeps you riveted from page one. This book was a perfect example of that. There were so many twists and turns and still a few unanswered questions. I absolutely loved this book.

So good!!!. Neely Kate is back in her second book and it was even better than I thought it would be, which is saying something because I thought it would be incredible! NK’s first book focused on her too but having her the focus in Henryetta and in her element was really phenomenal. There is action, romance, drama, mystery and conflict, everything you want in a great book. There are a few twists and turns and the story line just became a whole lot more complicated so I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! November can’t come soon enough!!

Loved “In High Cotton”. Congratulations on such a moving romantic mystery. I couldn’t wait to read it and now I can’t wait to read “Up Shute Creek”. I’m addicted to Neely Kate and Rose Gardner adventures!

fan93. Good book however I do not like the character Jed has become.. he went from Fierce-some to soft like Cotten. I preferred him as Skeeters right hand man.

Fabulous. I was expecting a novella I got a full blown novel! A real rollercoaster of emotions with ups and downs, high and lows. This book kept me on my toes. The plot and number of characters meant I couldn’t rush the reading and I had to really read which is a good thing. DGS does all she can to pack a great plot and storyline into a book and give her readers great value but most of all an exception reading experience.
