Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward Book Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.

Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.

I didn’t think he’d call me back.

I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.

Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.

Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.

A complete STANDALONE.

Wow just wow. I Absolutely fell in love with this book I want a Landon!! Oh what a hero he is!! Landon and Rana knew each other when they were younger, but due to circumstances they haven't seen each other in years, but they have secrets can they overcome all of what life threw at them and get what they want? This is a MUST READ book

Good, easy read.. The book was good, finished in about a day. A little predictable at the end.

Drunk phone calls don't always work out so well. I've read all of the books so far co-written by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. But I think this is the first book I've read my Ms. Ward herself. I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was fairly comical when Rana calls Landon out of the blue when she was stinking drunk. But the renewing of an old friendship and the start of a new romance was fun to watch. My absolute favorite has to be the thought and planning Landon put into their first date. And as everyone's secrets came out, it was interesting seeing how the other dealt with the reveal. Definitely a page turner. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Another fantastic book by Penelope!. Another fantastic book by Penelope! I absolutely LOVED the premise of this story. The execution of it was awesome, and everything that played out as a result of that phone call was amazing. The emotions between Rana and Landon were so well-written. I loved all of their dialogue; as with all of Penelope's books that I've read, the characters have very realistic conversations, which makes the story more enjoyable to read...for me, anyway. Oh, and this book is SMOKING HOT. Couldn't forget to mention that ;) The story got a little heavy towards the end. Again, true to form, Penelope addressed a very deep issue similar to one she's brought up in past stories, and wove it perfectly into this story. It added to the realism of the book, and I was sucked in to the scenario and couldn't wait to see its resolution. I can;t wait to read what she writes next!!! (I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)

Amazing!. Each Penelope book has its own personality, message, and special place in your heart. This one is no exception. Funny, witty, sexy were these two. Landon and Rana were amazing, and their relationship was magical. Heartfelt, touching, and emotional was the dynamic of their relationship with both their past. Landon was so perfect, & yummy, and Rana was an amazing woman. So many moments to take away from this book, enough to last a lifetime. A five star!

SIX STARS!. Six Hearts!! In the last few years of reviewing, I have only given maybe a dozen books six hearts. And I definitely never would have thought that one of them would have the word drunk in it. I also never thought one phone call would be the start of such an amazing story! It all started with a glass of wine and it ended that night with a phone call that would change everything. Rana never would have thought that after thirteen years that the boy she didn't say goodbye to actually called her back after that. A rant of all rants. A drunken rant of words she was holding on to for just as long. What shocks her the most was that he remembered her and even admitted that he thought about her a lot over the years. She didn't know what to do with this information. Especially after he wanted to keep talking to her. And when those talks turn from "how was your day" to "what are you wearing?" She was scared. Scared to face him. She had changed over the years and she wasn't sure he could fully embrace he kind of crazy. Landon didn't expect the call. He remembered Rana Banana. It was only one year in time when they were thirteen but he would never forget the way she made him laugh. And apparently, thirteen years later that didn't change. Now that she was back in his life even if thousands of miles away, he wasn't going to let her go. The more calls they make, the more he wants to know her. The present Rana. He is also hoping that she want to learn more about his present life and not the one in the past. He felt something for her with those phone calls but once he gets to see her. Touch her. Feel her. He can't help but fall. But is she ready for more than phone calls and virtual dates? I absolutely loved this book. Landon is seriously one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. He is funny, gentle, protective, sweet, tatted, pierced, and knows how to cook! He also a dirty talker that could heat you up quickly. He is a walking wet dream. And Rana is brave, hilarious, sexy, and beautiful inside and out. Together, it's everything. They might have their flaws but they make them well...them and they are perfectly imperfect. The storyline is unique. It made me feel all the feels. I laughed hard. Cried more than once. And felt their passion throughout. Overall...it's one of my favorite books of the year! And my favorite book written by Penelope! P.S. Tell me something funny. Quotes: “I was thirteen when you knew me. I barely knew where my balls were back then. A lot can change in thirteen years.” “I’m going to say yes, but only because I am really curious as to what that even means.” “I haven’t figured it out yet, but it’s going to be f- awesome.” “That was not just kissing. It won’t ever be just kissing with you. Ever.”

Absolutely Phenomenal! ❤️. I just finished Drunk Dial, and I cannot stop thinking about how absolutely phenomal it was!! It is definitely one of those books that will stay with me for a long time (likely for always) and I will most certainly read it again! I'm never disappointed with a Penelope Ward book but this was, hands down, the BEST book I've read of hers to date. The writing was incredible and I was truly blown away by parts of it! I'm rarely surprised by plot twists but she got me good with this one! I felt so many different emotions throughout the book...I laughed (out loud), I cried (sobbed at times), I felt anxious; you name it, I felt it! I loved Drunk Dial SO hard and I know it will always be a favorite. I'll be thinking about Landon & Rana for a long time and when I do, I will be smiling! I only wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it deserves far more! Well done, Penelope; Very Well Done!! ❤️

Rana Banana and Landon. Laughing and Crying on top of an amazing story!! Totally loved it!

Another hit. Another hit and it's hotter than ever. Such a good storyline and these charecters both had such beautiful ideas. Landon could make a nun swoon! Geez he was a hot one!

Always exceptional writing and ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT!. Funny, laugh out loud , milk spit through the nose kind at times. Then so heartfelt only seconds later as only the best writer can achieve. Thank you for allowing us to live in the worlds you create for us. I can hardly wait for your new adventure!

Drunk dial delivers. Wow! This was so good that I'll be reading this more than once. So funny, heart warming, inspirational, and deeply relatable. There were parts that made me feel the trepidation that each lead was feeling when they were confessing their deepest secrets and I was blown away at how the author created a truly realistic scene with the dialogue and background. And the banter between Rana and Landon was perfect. So believable and charming. The sex scenes were like added bonuses, not just for the sake of a sex scene, you know? Anyway, do yourself a big favor and buy this and tell all your friends to do the same.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. This book is so sweet. ❤️

A Unique & Emotional Second Chance Love Story. ‘Maybe it’s not really a mistake if you learn from it.’ Sage advice from a teenage boy who didn’t truly understand how much those words would apply to his future self and to his childhood friend who reconnects with him 13 years later due to a drunken impulse to tell him exactly how she feels about what happened all those years ago. Rana’s errors and Landon’s misjudgments are central to the people they’ve become, and even though their poor judgments aren’t revealed until further into their story, it’s clear that their guarded secrets are game changers and they’re both too scared of ruining what they’ve been building from Rana’s first drunken phone call. Rana Saloomi is a very intriguing heroine. It’s evident through Penelope Ward’s portrayal of Rana that there are many layers to her personality; Rana has always had issues with her physical appearance, so much so that she took the steps to make changes to her body, but those alterations don’t necessarily give her the self confidence one would suspect and despite her job as a belly dancer, Rana is so far in her head that she’s afraid to show Landon her body’s transformation. Rana’s perspective of the man Landon is due to where he currently lives as well as how he grew up in Michigan is definitely based on false impressions and they are drastically different from who Landon has become and how his life has gone since the moment he landed in California. Landon’s scars may not be as visible as Rana’s are, but the way he describes his days as well as the vague comments about things that have happened to him allow readers to understand that he’s every bit as damaged as Rana is, and while the reasons behind their self-destructive behavior differ, the impact those situations have on their psyche as well as their views on love and commitment make fully exposing themselves to each other extremely difficult tasks. The buildup of Rana and Landon’s relationship is perfectly paced due to the dynamics of their situation. A lot has happened to both of them since they saw each other 13 years ago, so not only do they have to get to know the new versions of one another, but they also have to contend with the fact that they live thousands of miles apart and they don’t even know what the other one looks like because they are no longer the teens they once were. Rana and Landon’s late night exchanges and the way Landon always asks Rana to tell him something funny slowly rebuild the bond that they shared as teenagers, and while, this time, there are more than friendly feelings involved, the physical as well as the emotionally aspects of their relationship can’t be rushed or else insecurities and fears will doom it before anything real can develop. ‘Show me you.’ That’s exactly what Rana and Landon want from each other, but a selfie isn’t exactly what the only thing they had in mind…although how they physically look is part of the intrigue. There are revelations that need to come out and decisions that need to be made, and when they are, it’s interesting to see exactly where Rana’s one drunk dial leads her and Landon despite the years that have passed, the distance between where one another lives, and the secrets that could cause them to lose each other even though they’ve just reunited. I truly enjoyed Rana and Landon’s story; their second chance story line is unique because of the way they reconnect and the individual demons that have to be slain before any kind of a real relationship can exist. And let me tell you, Rana and Landon’s secrets are doozies and their fears are warranted when it comes to the fallout that they could bring, but it’s also abundantly clear that what’s between them is worth exposing their truths and dealing with the repercussions together. Be ready for ALL. THE. FEELS. in DRUNK DIAL. I, for one, wasn’t, which made it an overwhelming story but in all the best possible ways. 4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)

Figure Eight. This was one of the most unconventional romantic stories I have read in a long time. Rana and Landon story touched me in ways that gave me goose bumps. Broken souls tied together by a common bond on different ends of the twined rope. A reconnection like no other and a love meant to inspire a fairytale.

This book was AMAZING!!!!. I absolutely loved the development of the relationship between Landon and Rana. Take a girl who has been through so much, throw in the HOTNESS of a guy and what do you get….. A laugh-out loud, heartbreaking, angsty story. The connection between Rana and Landon dates back to their childhood; but, they haven’t see each other in years, when on a whim, Rana does a search for Landon. Ms. Ward’s ability to bring these two characters together after years apart (and with the way she does it), is perfect! I laughed, I felt my heart was broken, only to be put back together; for me, that is a 5 star read!

Couldn't stop reading. Loved this book. The characters and story were so well developed. I laughed and cried for Rana, Landon and Lilith.

Needs improvement. The dialog could use some work. Cute story though.

All down hill after the sample.. This was nothing but run on sentence after run on sentence. I honestly feel deceived by the sample that seemed like it was going to have a solid structure to the story line but it ended but feeling like someone pulled a prank on me.

5-sweet-Stars!!. Penelope Ward's books are a no-brainer for me. This book had me in tears with the emotional parts and smile on my face with those witty banter. I couldn't put it down. This was such a wonderful journey with Rana and Landon. I love this book.

Meh. Honestly one of the cheesiest books I've ever read

What a wonderful story!. I absolutely loved “Drunk Dial.” The characters were so relatable and the story was amazing. It left me with a wonderful, warm feeling.

Very Interesting. Drunk Dial was definitely entertaining as all Penelope Ward books are, but this one had a lot of seriousness and emotion to it as well. The storyline was different from what I thought it would, but I still really enjoyed it. It kept me interested and curious to find out all the secrets. I feel for both Rana and Landon and everything they went through and are still going through. I really liked their relationship and how they reconnect and how it grows throughout the book. They have a strong connection with one another and have each other's backs; they're a great pairing. I wish there could have been a few Landon chapters here and there just to get a glimpse inside his head, but at least the epilogue was in his perspective. It was a well written book with great character development and a solid storyline.

Good.. Drunk Dial is Penelope Ward's newest saga and I found it to be sweet, surprising and a fresh twist on an age old concept.  I have been a fan of Penelope's stories since she first released Gemini and she has never failed to surprise me. Her stories are always completely unique and have me on the edge of my seat. This was a second chance romance with a twist. Rana drunk dials her old middle school crush one night only to have him pursue her in return. I really liked Rana  and loved the surprises with her Penelope gave us. I will say that Landon was not my personal favorite of Penelope's men. I'm not saying he's awful, quite the opposite, he had many a swoon worthy moment and tons of hot ones too. But mixed in-between were instances that had me unable to completely fall for him. All in all, I still would recommend this book, Penelope's stories are unlike any other and because of that I will always jump at the chance to read anything she writes. ~miranda

Drunk Dial. Fantastic

Drunk dial. A great story of growing up and reconnecting . I fell in love wire Rana.

Prefect from the cover to the story. I'm finding it had to say something that hasn't already been said before. This book has it all from the cover to the story it's perfect, I was pulled into the story from the first page after all how many of us have wanted to Drunk Dial someone from our past. I don't want to put spoilers in this review because I believe you need to read this brilliant book to enjoy it for what it is not what I could tell you about it, so with that in mind all I'm going to say is this book is funny in parts but it's also about two people trying to get past their insecurities, it's a love story with some twists and turns that you don't see coming. It also covers adoption and the questions and feelings from both the adopted child and the parent who has given their child up. Can two broken people become one and learn to love not only each other but also learn to love themselves, you need to read this book to get the full story. Once again Penelope Ward has given us another 5 star brilliant read that I consumed in one sitting. You need to one click Drunk Dial, it's a must read
