Open, candid, honest. I’ve read many “biographies” but this one, which comes at a critical time for our nation, is poignant and compelling. James Comey writes from the heart and makes every attempt to examine his motives. His distaste for Donald Trump is obvious and his respect for Barack Obama is admirable given that he, Comey, is Republican. But his insights into the behind-the-scenes workings of the US government restores my hope that we can resume our democracy after this period.

Higher Loyalty. I think the Author is lying or withholding info. What’s behind the curtains? Don’t trust Comey. Too political for an FBI leader. Where is J Edgar when you need him?

Honest insight. Truly fascinating stories from America’s former top cop. No matter what your political views are this book gives you insight into how the American justice system and political justice system, including the FBI work, and how the executive branch functions behind the scenes. James Comey really tries to steer the book away from extreme right and extreme left, and shifts towards the middle politically.

Surprising on many levels. I bought this book as part of a plan of resistance that began on 11/9 at a spontaneous demonstration outside the Trump Hotel in Chicago. By the way, it has the ugly superficiality of it’s owner, such a shame in a city with so many significant architectural gems. I did not buy it because of any interest in the author. I was more than pleasantly surprised how informative, insightful, well written and funny it is. I also was surprised at the humanity and commitment to a constant struggle with finding a principled way to approach and resolve a situation, problem or dilemma. I may not agree with all Mr. Comey’s decisions, but I give him immense credit for commitment to a higher order in this society, for the courage to follow through on this and for showing that order in society is attainable without an authoritarian fist. I also am impressed by his personal grace, candor and humility evidenced in this book. I have always had mixed emotions about the FBI, and at times, Justice. This book helped me see the humanity and commitment that the majority of people working there have. I highly recommend that any American should read this book. It supersedes politics and party and is a calm voice of reason and courage in this terrible period of history in America.

A Higher Loyalty. This is a critical book of our time that should be read by everyone. It is very readable, well written and filled with details that many of us might have read in news articles during these last several years but have not been able to digest and understand in such a meaningful way. The importance of the “rule of law” and an honest and forthright presentation of facts from our elected officials comes across loud and clear. We can only hope that the damage that our current president has done by denigrating the best values of this country can gradually be returned to normalcy in years to come.

Comey for President!. Mr. Comey, I hope you find it possible to run for President in 2020. As a Democrat I would vote for you hands down. Trump is a disgrace to this country. A Higher Loyalty. From a 77 year old conservative this book opens your eyes, your lungs and your head: for vision, a breath of fresh air and honest thought. If only we could see more of this from our leaders!

A Higher Loyalty. Reading this book I have come to the conclusion that my deepest fears for the state of our country have been verified. I am a retired police sergeant and a Vietnam Veteran who loves this country dearly. My father was a WWII veteran who served with the 442nd Infantry throughout Europe. He gave me the values of appreciating my freedoms as an American citizen. Unfortunately our current President seems not to share these similar values. It appears his loyalties are ego and self centered driven. Does he really love this country and what it stands for? Mr. Comey’s book should be a reminder to all of us that this country is greater than any one individual and that truth and honor should be ultimate goals in our lives. God bless us all and God bless this Great Nation. To James Comey- sir thank you for your insight, your honor and your obvious love of this Nation and the “real” values it stands for. I for one stand beside you and feel honored to have been able to read this book.

Comey is inspirational. I enjoyed reading this book and learning about Comey’s career from childhood to adult, his leadership skills and his mentors and his family. He is truly an inspirational person and a tough person to deal with a dirty man like Trump. His experiences during the last year as the FBI director under Trump was jarring. It’s pretty blatant that Trump is a horrible man just from everything he says, does and has done... but to read some of the scandalous things Trump requested Comey to do and the constant lies Trump told was just nuts. Talk about abuse of power. I hope Comey is happy and doing well with his family.

A Higher Loyalty. An engaging read that exposes much of what is good and bad about government at the highest levels. Reads like a good novel regardless of your tribal loyalties.

Rename title to “My Ego: How I failed to be a true leader”. Comey does a great job of describing “Ethical Leadership”. Unfortunately, by his own words, he failed to be a ethical leader at every opportunity. Comey is still “A popular 5th grader” by his own admission and never grew out of being a child. Look at how he describes democrats vs republicans. Comey’s bias leaps off the page every time. If you want to see what a TRUE LEADER is like, read Jocko Willink. Comey consistently: undercut his superiors, disparages others with different views, lets his emotions get the best of him and deceives the american public because he was “ordered” to. A TRUE LEADER does none of these things. I guess the title does work, it refers to Comey’s “Higher Loyalty” to his own EGO. I will keep this book to teach my children how you can deceive others through writing. The beauty of this book is how James Comey destroyed the reputation of the FBI, and like Hoover, refuses to believe he did anything wrong. Unbelievable.

Regardless of whether you agree with his politics or not, this book was a great view into a very interesting life spent in various important leadership roles, whether as a private citizen or as a public servant. The rest of the story. A very thoughtful and insightful missive. Comey is a man of integrity. My politics are to the left of Mr Comey, but his honesty, integrity and devotion to the values of this country must be admired.

A truth purveyor, thank you. This is a book that should be read by every member of the government from the line staff in departments to serving congressional members. Mr. Comey has laid out how continued silence on the actions of unethical and ego-driven president will harm us in-ways we cannot currently foresee, but the strength of our nations values will be stronger and wiser for the current dumpster fire that is our current time in history. Thank you sir for being a true confident leader.

It was a most interesting read which brought out the real duties of the three branches of government and educated me on the entirely three separate branches of government & how they reacted during, what I call the perfect storm of partisan politics. The truth and nothing but. I didn’t know James Comey very well outside of recent press releases about him. I am grateful for his dedication to writing this book about his experience in government, his hard earned lessons on how to be a great leader, what a great leader is like, his behind the scenes experiences in the administrations of three presidents in different capacities. The interactions between he and President Trump are and frightening and scary but certainly not a surprise given anyone who has followed his actions on the campaign trail and in the oval office to date. Knowing what happened behind the scenes through James Comey’s eyes leaves me with a sense of dread and fear for our nation under the mob mentality of Donald Trump. Trump is probably one of the worst suited people for this executive job, lives in his fantasy world, believes his own lies, does everything for his own benefit with little regard for the concern of Americans. His belief system is based on no evidence, facts or reality. This man is a danger to America and the world. I pray to God for the future of our democracy. Please god get us through the next three years with a president Donald Trump.

The understanding of democracy. I am neither left or right on this matter. Mr. Comey has a vast understanding for the FBI and Dept of Justice and the ability to make us as readers understand the importance that these two departments play. In upholding our constitution and fighting for what is right, fair & just. Therefore keeping American justice at its highest form. Well done, excellent read. “Anything is better than lies & deceit”

Comey. Excellent documentation of a flawed president, and interesting review of the FBI and Justice dept. The author’s personality is autobiographical, and shows his human imperfections.

Best book EVER!!!!. It was certainly an eye-opener on what really went on behind the scenes. How 1 man standing up for what’s right can change the way we are heading as a nation. There was a lot of what was said that the bias media twisted to fit the crooked current administration. If only we had more like Mr. Jim in positions of authority that would make the tough decisions and do what is right and not play the political games. I can only hope that he is one day on the ballot to be voted for cause he certainly has my vote!!!

Hope springs eternal. Maintaining power for a given political party seems to be more important than maintaining basic values. The deafening silence of the Republic members of Congress coupled with the indifference of many Americans to accept Trump’s redefinition of these basic values gives me pause. Comey’s logical and ethical recount of his actions at the FBI, however, give me hope. The hope that government institutions have more officials with integrity that will act and speak up to reverse this damaging chapter of American politics and lack of basic values.

Exceptional and courageous book. James Comey is an exceptional leader and patriot. All open minded Americans can learn much from this book and then each can take a courageous stand to make better voting decisions in the future. Character matters!

Higher Loyalty. An excellent read. Very well written and intelligent. I deeply respect and appreciate Comey’s integrity, sincerity and true leadership qualities. Comey leads by example with high moral values which are abysmally lacking in the Trump administration and more specifically with Donald Trump himself.

Disquieting memoirs of a diva. The book provides a disquieting view into the runnings of the American justice system which, while most of the players appear to be professionals most of the time, is run in its upper echelons by divas and political hacks. Comey himself comes off as a particularly insecure diva, second-guessing himself for every important decision he makes and thinking himself in the spotlight all the time, even when evidence to the contrary is presented (e.g. when FBI employees don't recognize him). The book gives examples of a wide variety of ethical and competent leaders and shows, again and again, how Comey falls short of his own standards by fumbling, second-guessing himself and over-estimating his own importance, first as a prosecutor, and later as Director of the FBI. This failure to live up to those standards culminates in his misusing his position and mishandling the Clinton E-mail file. While his mishandling of the Clinton E-mail file may have cost Clinton the 2016 elections, his avowed errors during the Bush administration are no less grievous: the scene he depicts at Ashcroft's bedside in their legal fight over torture, which makes for the most interesting read in the book, nevertheless shows him allowing a (slightly watered-down) torture program to continue. Add to that the way he confused DOJ employees by sending them to the hospital, neither knowing where not why they should go there; the asking the then-Director of the FBI to tell the special agents present to protect him from the secret service; the hapless confrontation with the President's chief of staff afterwards; and the lack of any tangible results from the whole thing; the only person to come out positively from the entire episode is Ashcroft. Bush and Obama are both presented more positively than I expected. The depiction of Trump (orange hue, small hands, etc.) is childish at best. The long introduction on the Cosa Nostra that links back to Trump at the end is possibly libelous (though may turn out to be true). The positive parts of the book, a fair description of what ethical leadership should be, make up less than a quarter of the book. The parts about the Cosa Nostra are a nice read. The rest is Comey being a diva.

A Higher Loyalty. Such a surprise! An engaging book that drew you in; its one persons perspective on history making events. There are always so many perpectives and I appreciated reading Comey’s. But truthfully it was Comey’s thoughts on leadership that really make be recommend this book.

4 Pinocchios. Comey’s “higher loyalty” was to the Clintons, not to unbiased justice, which he was sworn to. He deserved to get fired. Hillary should have been prosecuted. What a self-serving book this is. Wonder if Comey got hurt while patting himself on the back so much - he makes himself out to be squeaky clean. What a joke, except the joke isn’t funny.

A Higher Loyalty. I just read this book. I had expectations. I found out just what kind of person, the Author is, and is not. He is a person of principles, and of good character. His career in law enforcement proves who he is. He stands for law and Justice for all. The world needs more good principled persons like this Author. James Comey refused to be President Trump’s loyal puppet, and, he refused to turn a blind eye to Trump’s actions. In doing so, Trump fired him for refusing to play politics with Law and Justice. James Comey stood his ground on principles, eyes on eyes with an unprincipled President Trump. Bravo, and Keep you head high, Jim‼️

Excellent and compelling.. Mr. Comey’s book provides a riveting glimpse into the life of a man who is trying to do his best in a series of difficult situations. Thank you Mr.Comey for sharing your story, it was comforting to see the world still has men of decency and integrity. I hope you are remembered in history for standing up for what is right.

Honesty at its peak. I have read the book and will read it again and again. Also telling my kids to read it and would be telling my grandkids (who are ages 4-7) to read it when they grow up. This is the gold standard that they should live their life by. Comey’s book is in true sense do uplift and elevate our core values. This book is a bible and I am extremely thankful to the author for writing it.

Living His Truth. This story is now a record of purpose meeting truth. Trained observer, methodical record keeper, passion for the law and the Constitution, and truth teller, James Comey's account of events which are now a part of history, leave the reader with several impressions. He shows us his faithfulness to his training and beliefs. Mr. Comey is a person who is grounded, humorous and keeps his promises. There is warmth and compassion, which is the reason he has such a loving and supportive family. His life of service could be dismissed under the present political climate, however, if history is fair, then he will be remembered as an American hero. His courage and grace in the face of unjust criticism is to be emulated. Mr. Comey has elevated the honour of the FBI which had been stripped away unjustly, and though not perfect, the man and the organization is diligent in honouring the mandate they embrace. This story is a must-read to find balance to the media's version. Easy story telling style, and captivating.
