The Terminal List

The Terminal List by Jack Carr Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

A Navy SEAL has nothing left to live for and everything to kill for after he discovers that the American government is behind the deaths of his team in this ripped-from-the-headlines political thriller that is “so powerful, so pulse-pounding, so well-written—rarely do you read a debut novel this damn good” (Brad Thor, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

On his last combat deployment, Lieutenant Commander James Reece’s entire team was killed in a catastrophic ambush. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government.

Now, with no family and free from the military’s command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he’s learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward avenging the deaths of his family and teammates. With breathless pacing and relentless suspense, Reece ruthlessly targets his enemies in the upper echelons of power without regard for the laws of combat or the rule of law.

“Told with a deft hand and a keen eye for detail, The Terminal List…is explosive and riveting” (Kevin Maurer, co-author of No East Day) and is perfect for fans of Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Stephen Hunter, and Nelson DeMille.

Action Packed!!! Top notch writing, extremely entertaining!!! Could not put it down! Absolute Must Buy!!!

- Wow! Great read!5 star

This was a great thriller, read cover to cover much quicker than I usually do. Might be better than a Clancy novel...

- Hooyah Jack!5 star

Fast paced, heart pounding, nonstop action with a little pause for reflection. This book for me back into reading and I’m glad it did! On to book 2!

- The Terminal List5 star

Terrific book.

- Couldn't put it down!5 star

Phenomenal writing. Captivating for the entire read and found it very difficult to put down. Excellent character build up that many can relate to. Looking forward to many more.

- Excellent book... movie potential5 star

While my usual taste in books comes in the category of (auto)biographies, a flyer for book 3 release was stashed in this months black rifle subscription. I looked it up to check out the details and decided to buy this first novel to get caught up. Had I started reading in the morning yesterday, I probably would have finished this in one day. But life gets in the way, sometimes. With the details contained in the story, I had no problems imagining vividly, the scenes of a movie plot. I couldn’t help but put a “Mike Banning” like character to Reece. I read many of the reviews before writing my own but not without chuckling at the haters who felt it was politically one sided to the side that is obviously not of their own. Not sure what was expected from a novel based on political corruption, considering we all know Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself.

- The Terminal List5 star

Outstanding book...I could not put it down

- Disapponting2 star

A lack of character development, the author’s right-wing political agenda, and an amoral main character unable to distinguish between retribution and justice make this action-packed novel a fast but disappointing read.

- Good work5 star

I rarely read fiction, because I’m a writer myself—professional jealousy, I suppose—and besides the classics, there’s such a plethora of true stories, why waste time on anything else? This is why. This book grabs you like a starving anaconda who’s just benevolent enough to let you catch a breath every so often. Well done.

- Great book!5 star

I can’t wait till the next one! I was impressed with the story line and loved that an actual Navy SEAL with real life experience wrote it. I HIGHLY recommend it! 5 out of 5! -Aaron Singerman.

- The Terminal List5 star

Excellent book, I could not put it down!!

- Trite.2 star

I rarely don’t finish a book. And I knew the kind of book I was buying - the kind I like to read from time to time. But this one is just plain bad. The hero is the perfect, idealized warrior. He can make impossible shots with ease and knows just how to be a good friend to his mates. The bad guys are cartoonish, missing only the twirling mustache, and for some reason likely having to do with the author’s world view they are all Democrats - hilarious. It all passes so exactly like the plot you would expect of a book like this, I kept waiting for something unique to happen. The only unique thing I found was a plot that made little sense. Why would the bad guys even do this? Why not go be evil to a bunch of people that aren’t able to shoot them for it? I guessed the “big” plot twist early and after it happened just put the book down. I didn’t need to read this book. I already have.

- Too political1 star

He had the beginnings of a great book, then spoiled it by getting over political🤦🏽‍♀️

- Kill Procedural2 star

The story is a guy who kills all the people he hates. In the background is a strong ideology where liberals are evil and conservatives are good. The particular bad guys here with these goals and priorities would be conservatives, not liberals.

- My New Favorite5 star

This book is perfect. I usually don’t read that often and I couldn’t put this one down. Absolutely AMAZING!

- The Terminal List1 star

This was the worst novel I have read in years! Unless you're a gun nut & love all the minutia Carr babbles on about weapons, I can't imagine anyone else enjoying this book. Carr's macho bs is not entertaining nor is it attractive. He does the SEAL community a grave injustice.

- The terminal list5 star

Great read! I knew from the first few chapters it had me and that my husband would like it. He procured the audio version and is anticipating the next book.!

- That was a first for me....5 star

This is the first book that after I finished reading, the very next day I picked it up again. I swear the details in the book was just constantly playing a movie in my head! I’ve read my fair share of modern SEAL books and this one was a good change up on the fictional side! 11/10 would recommend! Super stoked for the next one!

- Wow5 star

I read almost exclusively thrillers, most military in nature, and this is the best of the lot, bar none. Reece is everything a main character should be. Despite the fact that the eventual outcome is apparent early on it doesn’t matter, the journey is crazy entertaining.

- The Terminal List5 star

A great story, that I couldn't put down. Full of action that kept me up most of the night. I look forward to the next book in the series

- Dangerous ideology.2 star

This first novel is very well written. The technical accuracy and attention to detail was remarkable. While not former military, I am retired law enforcement and led elite tactical units. But! It has some basic problems. First everything lines up too conveniently. I would encourage the author to remember that what makes a novel and its hero interesting is the struggle. In this book the hero suffers initial tragedy, but then doesn’t have one single set back. In fact, no one can stop him. He kills all the bad guys with zero effort. This made the novel predictable and dull. There is also something profoundly disturbing about the author’s view of our nation and the world. This is a political book. Liberals are bad, good looking, god fearing white men and their equally hot neoconservative tattooed women are good. In some ways it’s a fascist novel. It paints a picture of an idealized world. In many ways it’s like a video game. There is a great deal of hate in this book and not all of it is imagery or narrative. It’s hate of the other. In the end that’s what I got out of this novel. And while there is an audience for this book, it’s probably more therapeutic than artistic.

- Pretty good first book4 star

Had some doubts on this, but it turned out to be pretty good! A little repetitive in parts, and there were some weird typos towards the middle and end of the book, areas where 2-6 words were XXXXXXXXX’d for some reason... Wondering about the next one?

- The Terminal List5 star

This is the best book I’ve read thus far...Can’t wait for part 2.

- A genuine page turner5 star

OMG! I have not read another book this year that was so engrossing. This new author has talent. I’ve read all the Flynn, Thor and Child books and this was right up there. Even better in many respects. Great tech details. Moving personal inter-relationships. Man, I hope this guy is around a long time but this book will be impossible to top.

- A Brad Thor style tale that mentions Brad Thor3 star

It’s a pretty good little military/spy/political thriller. You can tell the author is just beginning, but his background comes through on the pages. It gets a little indulgent with the violence sometimes, and the redacted portions may be the douchiest thing I’ve ever seen in a fiction book. But I was entertained.

- The Terminal List5 star

Absolutely outstanding. I eagerly await his next book.

- Good overall if a little unbelievable4 star

Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl. Navy Seal set up. Navy Seal full of Vengeance after his family murdered. Navy Seal vindicated. I’d say this is a predictable tale, written well although a lot odd acronyms only found in the Appendix. Annoying. My digital version has blacked out words. Huh? Our hero did unbelievable things but was never in any real jeopardy. Fact is I liked it and my comments aren’t really negatives rather my observations.

Navy Seal action from start to finish. Great read. I’ll look for more from Jack Carr. Thanks

- The Terminal List4 star

This first book sets the bar very high for books 2-20, fortunately Jack Carr is a natural, gifted, storyteller! Never quit! Terminal List was difficult to put down. Powerful intriguing storyline along with characters who kept you on edge & turning pages long past midnight. James Reece draws you in, even though he’s a fictional character it makes you wonder should your circumstances change for the worst would your true character remain constant? The San Diego setting was a bonus. It’s no wonder Brad Thor mentions Jack Carr & Terminal List in his latest (well worth the wait) Spymaster!!

- The Terminal List5 star

What a great book. Reminded me of Stephen Hunters book "Time to Hunt". I have another author to follow. Thank you Brad Thor for mentioning this book in your five star book " the Spymaster". Mr. Carr, please do not wait to long in writing your second book.

A truly great thriller! While most of us will never truly be able to fully relate to the technical and the tactical, any guy with a daughter or son will be moved by the expressions of family love. A great first book! Looking forward to the next!
