Marek by Sawyer Bennett Book Summary

USA TODAY BESTSELLER • When the Carolina Cold Fury’s hottest young star gets blindsided by an ex with a scandalous secret, it’s game on.

“One of the best voices in contemporary romance.”—New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne

Marek Fabritis is used to delivering blows, not receiving them. But when he gets tipped off by an anonymous email about his ex-girlfriend, the news leaves him ice cold—and it’s not because Gracen Moore is getting married to a total jerk. It’s the fact that Marek has a three-year-old daughter he never knew about. Now he’s going back home, not to play knight in shining armor but to make damn sure that no man takes what’s his. For the first time, there might be something more important than hockey.

Gracen Moore has always loved Marek. That’s why she let him go, so he could pursue a career in the NHL. And that’s why she never told him about Lilly. Only now does Gracen realize that she made an unforgivable mistake. But is that any reason for Marek to crash her wedding and make an epic scene? If the spark that still smolders between them is to be trusted, maybe. Still, Gracen’s not getting her hopes up. Because she knows better than anyone that appearances aren’t always what they seem. . . .

Loved it!. 4.5 Stars Marek by Sawyer Bennett is the eleventh book (I cannot believe it’s book 11 already!) in the Cold Fury Series! It can be read as a stand-alone but I do recommend reading the others as well. I love love lovedddd this story. It was full of angsty goodness that had me rooting for the characters from the get go. Marek and Gracen have a tumultuous past that resulted in a child that Marek knew nothing about. When he goes to try and stop Gracen from getting married, he got one heck of a surprise when he meets Lilly, his daughter. He is furious and takes both of them to his home to figure out what to do. Both Marek and Gracen are stuck dealing with emotions and the consequences from the choices they made. Will they be able to move forward and be a family for their daughter…or will it be too late? Sawyer Bennett sure knows how to write fantastic stories that are heartfelt and realistic! I loved Marek and Gracen and their relationship. Yes there were mistakes made but that’s what made the story so good. My emotions were all over the place-one minute swooning over Marek and the next feeling heartache. I am so excited to see what’s next for Ms.Bennett!

Great second chance story. Having followed this series, enjoying each player along the way, Marek and Gracen’s story seemed to hit a soft spot for me. The emotions ran high, perhaps because Lily was involved, or perhaps I’m a sucker for second chance stories...which there are a plethora of. The way Ms Bennett has approached the topic though gave it a whole other level of “pull at the heartstrings”, I think this is where Lily comes in. I’m glad that Marek finally was able to come to terms with his past and Gracen to find his HEA with her. Clearly their chemistry is enhanced by their explosive history...adding the perfect layer of emotions to up the attraction factor between them. The Cold Fury Hockey series has never grown old, this author has perfected the ability to keep an extended series fresh and exciting. I always look forward to Ms Sawyer’s books...I'm anxious to see what she has in store next. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

3 Stars!. I'm a huge fan of this series from Sawyer Bennett so it pains me to admit that Marek's story was a struggle for me. First let me say you can normally read these as a standalone but I didn't read the previous book and I believe I missed the beginning of Marek and Gracen's story because of it. You do learn real quick what happened, but I do wish I had read Reed's book first. You also learn in the blurb that Marek finds out he has a three year old daughter he never knew about. This book deals with the struggle of the aftermath of all that. The author did a great job keeping this more realistic to reactions in real life but I prefer the more fairy-tale version. There was a lot of hurt on both sides. I probably should be mad at Gracen but honestly it was Marek who I struggled more with. I AM pleased with how they came together in the end and I loved that Reed kept giving Marek a hard time about how he was treating Gracen. I do love this series and all the guys in it so while this one isn't my favorite, I do highly recommend reading this series. My issues with MarekMarek and Gracen were together for three years. They are the loves of each others lives but when he gets drafted he breaks things off with her so he can have his freedom. We all know what that means and I felt betrayed for Gracen. If he loved her so much, why does he want his freedom? He even thought he was doing it for her too because he didn't think she would go to College if he stayed with her. He never forgot her in the three years and the only time he got relief was when he was with other women. It's just not what I want to see in my heroes. :(

Second Chance Romance. Jennifer Cowan's review May 22, 2018 · edit it was amazing Over three years ago, Marek leaves the love of his life to pursue his dreams of becoming a NHL player. When leaving, he indicated he didn't want to be "tied" down. Although it broke Gracen's heart, she understood and let him go. While Marek has seen success as a starter on The Cold Fury, when he receives an anonymous email saying Gracen is getting married and he may have a daughter he never knew about...Marek crashes the wedding. Marek takes Gracen and Lilly home with him, only to ignore them. He's stunned, hurt, and angry. Marek can't understand why Gracen would keep his daughter from him. It isn't until his best friend and teammate takes him aside, that he makes an effort to build a relationship with his daughter. Gracen tries to make amends with Marek, but he ignores her at every turn. It's not until Gracen threatens to leave, taking Lilly with her, that Marek starts to listen and see things from Gracen's point of view. I loved this story! It's messy, heartbreaking, selfless all rolled into a second chance love story. Sometimes we make decisions that we truly believe are for the best, only to find out we messed up. It takes courage to admit you're wrong, but even more to open yourself up to possible heartbreak again. I truly thought it was one of the best Cold Fury stories yet! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Mixed emotions. I'm sitting here, a day after I finished reading this book, wondering whether I should hate or love Marek and Gracen. Both of them did things in the past that make me hate them, but I understand why they did them. I'm not saying that makes it ok. I'm just saying I get it. Obviously this is a HEA, but I really enjoyed alot of the real life moments, and not all were happy. I respect Gracen for realizing that forgiveness doesn't mean forgetfulness and that even with the forgiveness you can't always forget it. I think this is one of the best books I have read about having to work at a relationship and overcoming obstacles, pain and past hurts.

Mistakes & Second Chances. Cold Fury is one of my favorite sports romance series and I was really excited to read Marek after finishing Reed. This second chance/secret baby romance had me feeling all the feels. Marek is book 11 in the interconnected stand alone Cold Fury series, and can be enjoyed without reading the previous books. I really wanted to love this one and it did get me very emotional, but I just couldn't connect with both Marek and Gracen. Marek especially infuriated me with his immature behavior and his hot temper. His history with Gracen and the reason for their break-up only annoyed me further. I understand he was young and starting a new chapter in his life, but it only made him come across as a jerk and harder to like all these years later. He did redeem himself a bit at the end and I loved that he stepped up to become a father to Lilly, but his moods and feelings seemed to turn so quickly that I got whiplash several times during the story. Sadly, I also had a hard time liking Gracen (but not as much as Marek). She was at times incredibly strong and then the next a doormat. Her lack of communication with almost everyone in her life created so many issues. Her past was heartbreaking though and I definitely sympathized with her. I just wish that she would have came across more independent and confident and less desperate, basically taking whatever Marek was willing to offer. Marek was still an entertaining story and I really loved seeing Reed and Josie again. They provided a voice of reason to both Marek and Gracen and some comic relief too. I'm glad they're still enjoying their happily ever after. I also loved the close relationship that both Gracen and Marek had with their families and that they were so supportive and such positive influences in their lives. Overall, this is a solid addition to the Cold Fury series, but not one of my favorites. *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

Best Hockey Series!. I love the Cold Fury series! You can read every book as a standalone but they are so much better together. Marek and Gracen had a very complicated past and issues and hurts to work through. Their story was amazing and their chemistry off the charts.

Wonderfully addicting. Sawyer Bennett’s latest installment in her Cold Fury Hockey series —Marek— delivers a heartwarming story about forgiveness and second chances. Marek Fabritis got everything he ever wanted. The fame and fortune an NHL career affords him along with a hoard of fawning fans. But when he decided to stop his ex-girlfriend’s wedding to a douche canoe and take both her and the three-year-old daughter he didn’t know he had, he needs to face the fact that his life has tilted on its axis and that his job is not his life and it might take a backseat to the sweet love of his little girl, but can he forgive her mother in order to start a new happy chapter in his life? When Gracen Moore decided to let Marek go so he could chase his NHL dream, she did so hiding the fact that she was pregnant with their daughter thinking it was for everyone’s benefit. After he prevented her from making a huge mistake she’s now faced with the fact that keeping Lilly a secret was not just epic it was inexcusable. But how many times can she ask for forgiveness and how long can she hide the fact that she never stopped loving him? Gracen and Marek are in uncharted territory. The spark, the memories, the shared emotions are still very much present but they must also find a way to face the past that broke them and the decisions that are currently threatening them. Not an easy task for either of them. Their story takes us through a gamut of feelings from frustrating to very sweet, tender and definitely sultry. Bennett’s skilled storytelling grips you from the start with a motivating plot, attractive characters and a wide range of emotions which make all her stories a wonderful reading experience. Marek is no different. It’s an enjoyable, sexy escape that explores family, friendship, forgiveness, love and second chances. Marek is book #11 of the Cold Fury Hockey series by Sawyer Bennett. It is a standalone, contemporary hockey romance. Told from both points of view with a hand ending.

I really love this series!. I really don't know authors Sawyer can continually make such a long running series so interesting. She does such a great job making her characters has distinct personalities. The storylines make it hard to put down. And for me I finish one book and immediately start counting down when the next book releases!

great book.. i love it! i found joise super annoying in this book.

Loved. Marek and Gracen find themselves in quite a predicament. Marek finds out that he has a three year old that Gracen never told him about. This is a second chance romance and it packs a punch.

"I love it when you think you're actually in control, Gracie.". I'm a huge fan of the #ColdFuryHockey series and I love it when I get to see the #HockeyHunks I've come to know and love in previous books. In this one, I enjoyed spending some more time with Reed & Josie. Marek & Gracen were high school sweethearts. She thought their love was forever, at least until he left her to pursue his NHL career and to find out what he'd been missing. He broke her heart and forced her to rewrite her future, one that didn't include him. She moved on, but she never forgot her first love. She never expected to see him again, other than when she watched the Cold Fury team on TV. Imagine her surprise when he showed up at her wedding... Marek has always had fond memories of his first love. The time he spent with Gracen was special and he's never regretted their time together. Actually, he's never forgotten her over the years. When he receives an email telling him she's getting married, he decides to head back to their hometown and change her mind. What he finds when he gets there rocks his world. Her name is Lilly and she's 3 years old. And he can never get those three years back... This installment of the Cold Fury series is different than the others. It's not lighthearted and funny. It's deep and emotional. I admit I struggled with it, having trouble connecting to the main characters. I got frustrated with their behavior and was tempted to use Marek's hockey stick inappropriately at times to set them straight. It seemed the only time they were on the same page was in the bedroom, and in that case, they didn't need any help from me, they had that covered just fine. I'm looking forward to finding out which HockeyHottie will be featured in the next installment, regardless, I'll be there ready to cheer for the team and provide unsolicited advice. The line forms here...

SECOND CHANCE. Since I love reading stories about sexy hockey players, I was excited to read the eleventh book in The Cold Fury series. Sawyer Bennett is one of my favorite authors because she knows how to write an engaging story with characters that are easy to relate to. There is great character development in this emotional and satisfying second chance romance. I loved all the fun interactions between the characters and all the entertaining secondary characters. I was immediately drawn into Marek and Gracen’s world and I was able to sympathize with both of their points of view. Whenever they are together, they can’t keep their hands off each other but they are both dealing with hurt feelings and anger. They have to figure out if they can forget the past and have a future together. After all this time, they still care about each other, yet they are confused about all the mixed emotions the are feeling. They have hurt each other and need to somehow rectify their past mistakes. Marek and Gracen were young when they were first together. Now, four years later, they have both matured and changed and they have to decide what is important to them. They have to accept each other and forgive and forget. I liked Marek and Gracen and I was pulling for them to work things out and be together. Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

Love this series!!!. **Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review** Marek is book 11 in the Cold Fury Hockey series. This book can be read as a standalone, however IMO you lose some of the story by not knowing the other characters from the previous book. Again-- just my opinion. This book was a fast, fun read, hard to put down. Marek and Gracen were together for 5 years, then when he lands a position on a professional hockey team, he decides he wants his freedom and ends the relationship. But there are things he doesn't know, and things he should have been told. Now she's getting married and an anonymous email shows up and Marek gets upset. This is probably my least favorite book in the Cold Fury Hockey series. I wasn't a big fan of Marek, he came across mostly as selfish, spoiled and entitled. He does redeem himself, but his character really just rubbed me the wrong way. The characters had good chemistry, and I really enjoyed the story overall. If you like hot and steamy you will enjoy this book. I really enjoyed Lilly, the daughter in the book, wish we would have seen a little more dialogue with her- when you did see it, it was precious. Overall it was a good book, and I would recommend. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Hope this helps. Happy Reading!!!

Marek. This book would benefit from an additional fifty pages at the beginning. Who are these people, what is their history, what’s this wedding that got stopped and why. The beginning takes forty pages before it all starts to pull together. The author just needed to take a little more time with this one. Charge another dollar and make it a much better story

Different and Interesting. Marek was interesting and different. It took me a while to like Marek. Anyone who reads this will agree that he's a jerk for a while. Him and Gracen have a lot of history which leads to a lot of problems. They have a lot of issues still with one another that they can't seem to get over. I somehow forgot how Reed ended, I started reading Marek and thought "Oh yeah all of that happened! How could I forget that?" The storyline was unique, but difficult at times because of all the problems it brought about. As the book went on I started to like Marek more and more and connected more with Gracen. They are both good people at heart who have made some bad decisions, but still deserve to be happy. I enjoyed the development and progress of their relationship. The epilogue was so adorable!! I love Lilly, she's so stinkin cute!

Stick with Marek. I will confess I was worried while reading this book. I spent a huge portion of the book angry and/or frustrated with Marek. I was worried he wouldn’t be able to redeem himself. Boy, did he, though. The ending had me all in my feels. It was heart wrenching and beautiful. I absolutely loved it.

Book eleven of this series.. I love the Carolina Cold Fury Hockey team and all the players. Marek was just as entertaining as all the others. The book opens to Marek finding out he is a father of a three year old, Lilly. His ex Gracen, kept it a secret from him because he left her to be single and free when he started his NHL career. Gracen was crushed by Marek leaving her. Marek was crushed because she kept such a valuable secret from him. He moved Gracen and Lilly from New York to North Carolina so he could get to know his daughter. But he could not forgive Gracen for her deceptiveness. And for awhile, Marek was down right mean to her. But then old memories and feelings started to interfere, and wham! I loved how they reconnected with each other. It was not an easy road for either of them. And Lilly stole your heart the whole time. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy.

Couldn't wait for this Hot Dad!. Love this series! 11th book, am I getting sick of it?!? That's a HUGE NO!!!! I could read about those Cold Fury boys all night long ;) This one had tons of feels like you'd expect from Sawyer Bennett, lots of ups and downs between Marek & Gracen...and sweet Lilly ❤️ Super steamy like you'd expect from this series! A HOT Daddy, yes please! I had lots of mixed feelings reading this, the words between them were pretty harsh at times and my heart hurt for each of them. So glad Marek got his story after Reed! Highly recommend this book, series & author! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Marek. Anger, turmoil and the pull of a once in a lifetime love is what keeps Marek going in the next book in the Cold Fury Hockey series! The beginning felt a little stunted because we didn't get to experience the drama that had happened first hand and were trying to play catch up in snippets of memories. The story line was quick to grab out attention though, and watching Marek try to connect with this his little look-alike daughter was adorably sweet. The author did a great job of portraying emotions on both sides of their betrayals. I really enjoyed the overall story! When professional hockey player Marek Fabritis finds out that his childhood sweetheart was pregnant with his baby when he left and never told him, he's beyond angry! He's missed more than three years of his daughter Lilly's life. He can never get that time back, so how can he ever forgive Gracie? Gracen Moore can't believe Marek made such a huge scene at what was supposed to be her wedding and used scare tactics to drag her and Lilly home with him to North Carolina! Yes, she realizes she made a huge mistake, but he dumped her just so he could live a wild and free lifestyle in the NHL, so what was she supposed to think? Seeing how angry and hurt he is over missing out on so much has her crumbling under the guilt. She never stopped loving him, no matter how much he let her down ... and even though the attraction and desire is still right there between then, can Marek ever forgive her enough to want any type of relationship with her?

Another cold fury Book!. What can I say, I love these cold fury men no matter what! They can frustrate me, which Marek does to no end in the beginning of this book, but I still fall in love with them in the end. Marek and Gracen were childhood sweethearts, but when Marek finds out he’s going to the NHL he breaks up with her because he doesn’t want to loose focus and he wants to be able to be single and enjoy what being a professional hockey player has to offer. When Marek dumps Gracen he leaves more than a broken heart behind, he leaves Gracen pregnant with his daughter. He has no idea he has a child until he finds out Gracen is going to marry a man he can’t stand and he goes home to stop the wedding. To say that Marek is surprised he has a daughter is an understatement. Add to that the betrayal he feels and finding out after missing 3 years of his daughter’s life and things really aren’t good between Gracen and Marek. Marek insists Gracen and Lilly move to North Carolina with him. But it’s not all fun an games. The resentment eats away at Marek and he just can’t be civil to Gracen. Add to that the fact that Gracen is not being truthful to Marek about certain things going on at home increases the tension. But know this, Lilly is the sweetest little girl and her parents love her dearly. I think far is like my favorite character in the book. Overall I really liked this book. I do have to admit the way the two characters handled things in the beginning were a little frustrating to me, but it wasn’t enough for me to not like the book. Because in the end I really enjoyed it!

Marek. I love this series. I have them all. The problem with that is you compare and Marek just did not expand into something hot and memorable for me. It all stayed on the surface. Not like the earlier books...this seemed rushed, not deep enough and not sexy enough. I know not all can be but as I said you tend to compare. Could have amped up his playboy ways, thrown in a girl, Owen was alright but his "evilness" was short lived without much fire to it so it was anti-climactic at best. I loved Marek with Lilly but nothing else made me want to stay on board for this one. They did not even deepen their parent bond because it just felt rushed.

4 1/2 Stars ... a GREAT addition to the Cold Fury Series. Marek and Gracen were high school sweethearts, but when Marek got drafted to the NHL he broke up with her. He wanted to enjoy his new found star status, along with all the benefits (if you know what I mean) and the last thing he needed was a girlfriend. Four years later when he finds out he is the father to a 3-year old little girl, he interrupts Gracen`s wedding and brings Gracen and Lily home with him. Gracen was kinda glad when Marek showed up because she was being blackmailed into getting married. But now Marek and Gracen have to navigate through this new arrangement for the sake of their daughter Lily. But neither one could get over the hurt they had caused each other ... back then and now. My heart just broke for this whole situation. I could see why Marek was mad at Gracen for not telling him he was a father, but I could also see why Gracen didn't because he told her in no uncertain terms that he didn't want her in his life. Little Lily was just a joy! What a sweet accepting little girl ... she made me laugh A LOT! This is one of those books that makes you feel every emotion ... joy, laughter, sorrow, heartbreak ... and the sex scenes were HOT! I recommend not only this book, but the entire series. I received an ARC courtesy of Random House - Loveswept through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Repetitive. I have read all the books in the series and some are better than others but this one was really boring and repetitive. The story start with them already supposedly “in love” which you never get since they just fight and there is no real memories of how they felt in love so you never get the connection to their story. Honestly, even If i don’t consider the lack of connection, the story is just so boring! I kept skipping pages hoping for better but nope it never did get better
