The Death Of Me by Natalie Hames Book Summary

He watched. He studied. He planned.

Every detail meticulously organised. Every detail perfect. The basement was ready, now all he needed was the girl.

Grace Dalton was just fourteen years old when she was snatched from Greenwich Park on her way back from school. A beautiful, shy, but socially awkward girl, she would do anything to stay out of trouble and away from her bullies. Pressed for time and her tormentors blocking her usual route home, she makes a split second decision with catastrophic consequences.

After facing public humiliation from a previous investigation, Detective Constable Philip Harris once again finds himself under savage media scrutiny when he's assigned to Grace's case.  Determined to find her and solve the case to gain back his credibility, his frustrations mount when he repeatedly finds himself hampered at every turn. With no other suspects and the case rapidly becoming cold, the finger of blame points to Tom, Grace's father. Struggling to keep his personal resentment towards Tom away from the case and the press, DC Harris embarks on his own investigations to find who the real kidnapper is against the instructions from his superior officers.  But when his digging leads him to a mysterious concealed road protected by impenetrable iron gates he soon realises his investigations have not only endangered himself, but also his family.

Pitched alone against a highly organised crime syndicate and not knowing which side his colleagues are on, he's faced with some tough decisions. Either drop Grace's case, declaring it cold and allowing Tom to take the fall, or make a highly dangerous bargain for her safe return. Time's running out, which will he choose?

Powerful Psychological Thriller!!!. What a twisty thriller that grips you from the first page!! The settings are mercurial….the characters are clever & haunting….there are lots of twists to the mystery that keep you guessing all the way through!!:-). LOVED IT!!:-)

Excellent. One of the better police procedure/mysteries I've had the pleasure of reading. The characters have depth and believability about them. Good to the very end.

The Death of Me. I felt like I was in the scene as this book is very well written. The suspense was outstanding. Will look at other book options from this author.

The Death of Me. Fast read. Easy to keep up with the twists.

The Death of Me. One of the best series I’ve read. Where is Six?

The Death Of Me. Good read; couldn’t put it down!

Couldn’t put it down!. I’m super picky with my mysteries and thrillers but this book pulled me in right away! Loved the storyline and all the twists and turns! Can’t wait to read more from this author!!

Good but confusing. I found the story very capturing and kept me wanting to always read more. However, there are parts where I still don’t understand such as the whole thing with Christina and Mick at the end (end of the first part of the last chapter). Could someone please explain to me?(here’s my email so there’s no spoilers: manon.gvozde@gmail) Also, I felt like the end was a bit rushed. Otherwise, AWESOME BOOK!

The death of me. Not worth a read

Excellent read. So many twists and turns

The death of me. Great read, page turner for sure!

Awful. This is, without a doubt, the worst book I’ve read this year. It’s so badly written that I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I’ve absolutely no idea how this came to be published.

I have quite enjoyed this book .... ... even though some scenes were too detailed for my liking (car rides, searching premises, etc.) But what bothered me most was the inconsistent timeline of events and age of certain people. Nevertheless a pleasant read all in all.

The Death of Me. Absolutely brilliant could not put it down

Mostakes. There are a lot of annoying mistakes in this book.

Lovely to read a book with local landmarks!. The reason I read it was because it was set in London, so I was very pleased with the local touches. It was well written and finished off even though the author is obviously planning a sequel.......which I am looking forward to!

Okay. I am puzzled by the high number of 5* reviews for this book on Amazon. It was a far from convincing plot and the narrative jumped forward clumsily at times. The characters were okay but the dialogue often sounded unnatural. If it bothers you, as it does me, there are multiple grammatical and punctuation errors which weren’t picked up by a proof reader. Personally, I think an author should set a good example by getting the grammar and punctuation in a book correct. 2* because I finished it, even though after reading a third of it I did speed read long passages. I’ve read worse but I won’t be looking for any more by this writer.

Riveting read. Fascinating plot, which contains a number of inner stories connected to the characters. Kept me interested throughout and has a tantalising ending...

The death of me. Excellent, could not put the book down.

Tangled web. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There are lots of twist and turns in the book to keep you engaged to the end, some very unexpected ones! The story is well constructed and well written and a must read for all lovers of detective stories that are a little unusual.

Brilliant. A real page turner. A thriller with a different twist. Well written - the odd typos are easily overlooked given the pace of the storyline

Good book. Really enjoyed reading this book. It was great!

The Death of Me. What stood out to me was the exceptional portrayal of inter-personal tensions within relationships and related inner dialogues. The story kept me guessing ‘til the end…nicely done!

The Death Of Me by Natalie Hames. A very gripping story. A few places where I was breathless waiting to see what would happen next. I read until I finished it at 2 in the morning. Unexpected events occurred but I was satisfied with the ending. I will look for other books by this author.
