Bring Me Back by B A Paris Book Summary

THE NEW TWISTY, GRIPPING READ FROM B.A. PARIS, THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING NOVELS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND THE BREAKDOWN

“We’re in a new Golden Age of suspense writing now, because of amazing books like Bring Me Back, and I for one am loving it.” —Lee Child

"[An] outstanding Hitchcockian thriller.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

She went missing. He moved on. A whole world of secrets remained—until now.

Finn and Layla are young, in love, and on vacation. They’re driving along the highway when Finn decides to stop at a service station to use the restroom. He hops out of the car, locks the doors behind him, and goes inside. When he returns Layla is gone—never to be seen again. That is the story Finn told to the police. But it is not the whole story.

Ten years later Finn is engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Their shared grief over what happened to Layla drew them close and now they intend to remain together. Still, there’s something about Ellen that Finn has never fully understood. His heart wants to believe that she is the one for him...even though a sixth sense tells him not to trust her.

Then, not long before he and Ellen are to be married, Finn gets a phone call. Someone from his past has seen Layla—hiding in plain sight. There are other odd occurrences: Long-lost items from Layla’s past that keep turning up around Finn and Ellen’s house. Emails from strangers who seem to know too much. Secret messages, clues, warnings. If Layla is alive—and on Finn’s trail—what does she want? And how much does she know?

A tour de force of psychological suspense, Bring Me Back will have you questioning everything and everyone until its stunning climax.

Not worth reading. I waisted my time on this one , this book is so unrealistic especially the end. The dolls thing is so stupid and useless, I don’t find the ending as a plot twist at all. I don’t want to spoil the book but go purchase something else. You will regret reading it.

Nope. Booooo! thumbs down!!!

Great but drawn on... I did enjoy this book but, I found that the majority of the middle of the book was very drawn out and got a bit boring at times. The end was definitely an interesting twist and I’m glad I read it after all. I just wish there was a little more substance in the middle than a very repeating storyline for most of the book. Still would suggest it though!

Predictable. Good premise and characters but I guessed the twist 1/4 of the way through.

Don’t Bring Me Back. Good story but the ending was very disappointing...

A highly enjoyable mystery full of twists and turns. This is my first book by B.A. Paris and I was very excited to be notified that I would be getting an advance review copy of the book through Netgalley. I have been seeing this book talked about all over social media and with suspense being a category I have recently been bingeing on, I was excited to dig in. Starting right off with Finn telling us (the reader) what happened the night that Layla disappeared, I settled in and couldn't wait to see where this story took us. I highlighted a lot of passages along the way, just knowing it was a clue of some sort. Since I haven't read any of Ms. Paris' other books, I had no idea what her writing style was, so I didn't really know if things I thought could be a clue or hint of some sort would end up really being one, but that's half the fun of reading a new to me author. Finn and Ellen are together now, having connected at a memorial service held for her sister Layla. They are set to be married, but Finn drops little hints along the way that he doesn't feel the same way about Ellen that he did for Layla. But life has to go on, right? It isn't healthy to stay buried in the past, and Ellen loves him so that's good enough for him. But both Finn and Ellen are holding on to a huge amount of secrets, and as the story unfolds, we find out in alternating points of view just what secrets Finn and Ellen are keeping. I have to admit that after looking at a couple of the passages I highlighted as clues, I formulated a theory as to what was really going on, and it turns out my theory was correct, which really never happens. I did enjoy the way Ms. Paris twisted and turned this story, and used a couple of key side characters as diversions to what was really going on. I really enjoyed the cat and mouse game that Finn was playing, or was he being played? You'll have to read to find out. The book was a little slow in the beginning, but once the momentum built and the suspense ratcheted up, I couldn't put it down, just needing to know if my theory was correct and how Finn was going to handle that bombshell? Even though I guessed correctly as to what was going on, I did not guess that ending at all, and I have to say Ms. Paris did surprise and shock me with that. I am anxious to look at her catalog of other books to see what else she has published in this genre. Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review

Okay, not great. Not as great as her other stuff but still worth a quick read

This author did not disappoint!. Excellent book that explores complex psychological manifestations.

Bring me back. Could not put it down.thanks

Bring Me Back. I love this author!! Her books are fantastic!! I’ve read all three in one sitting each, unable to wait for the ending!! This ending was totally unexpected, a complete surprise!! Can’t wait for the next mystery!!

So repetitive.. The beginning and end were okay, but the 1,000 pages in between dragged on, and on. Ending was somewhat predictable.

Disappointing. Read it in a few hours. Kept me engrossed. However the ending was disappointing. I assume she didn’t know how to tie up the loose ends and took the easy way out.

Bring Me Back. It was a very suspenseful book!

Intriguing. I found it difficult to put down as I was wondering what next? It was a quick read. The ending was heartbreaking and yet disappointing.

Not up to her caliber. I love her other two books, but this one wasn’t worth the time or money. There was way too much inner monologue - most of it redundant. The concept was there, it just feels like the concept was falling thin so it was overstuffed with inner dialog aimed to build suspense - in reality it just got really monotonous. Disappointing.

Meh. Such a long build up for an ending that just didn’t deliver for me. Not as good as behind closed doors.

Wow!!. Yet another great read by BA Paris. It took a tiny bit of time to get into it, but once I did, I was hooked and didn’t put it down. I completely recommend this novel.

Wow!!!. Seriously speechless. This book was by far one of my most favorite psychological thrillers I have ever had the pleasure of reading!! I couldn’t put it down.

Really Bad!. I read Behind Closed Doors and The Breakdown. I enjoyed both of them. Bring Me back went on and on about nothing. It was boarding but I kept reading because I thought it would get better. It didn't. The ending was just as bad as the beginning. Hope the next book is better. Sorry for the bad review, but I'm just being honest.

Not her best. I loved Behind Closed Doors and The Breakdown. I didn’t feel like this book was suspenseful - it felt like the majority of the book was just Finn debating to himself if Layla was/wasn’t alive and asking himself the same five questions over and over. I found my attention wandering throughout. I liked the ending but I wish there had been more of the book dedicated to that part of the story. Not a waste of time but I wish I’d waited for the price to go down before buying.

Bring Me Back. This book caught my attention from the start, but half way through, it got boring and went on and on without much of anything new. It never made sense that someone who disappeared may have returned 12 years later. Why that long? A dysfunctional family and relationship, and violence. Then the ending that I couldn't wait for, was too unbelievable. I almost stopped reading it. Towards the end, I wanted to be done with the same old on and on plot, and started skimming it to finish. It was not worth the price.

Another Home Run!!!. What a great book! The suspense was great....even if it was all a little far fetched! It’s interesting because, while I was reading the book it seemed realistic, but once I finished, to sum it all up, its totally unrealistic! Read it to see what I mean!

Haunting!!. Broken hearts, guilty consciences, and haunting mind-games are the ingredients that make up this psychological thriller. Layla and Ellen came from a toxic family unit where their abusive alcoholic father had ruled. Layla was the first to leave the homestead. She escaped to London where she found Finn and fell in love. Finn loved Layla with a passion, so much so, that it scared him; especially the night that she went missing. Although Finn didn’t want to fall in love with Layla’s sister, Ellen, after Layla had disappeared, he did. It wasn’t the same kind of intense love, however, but it was enough. After Finn and Ellen’s engagement went public, Finn’s life began to fall apart. Someone was playing head-games with him, insinuating that after twelve years, Layla, was not only alive but trying to contact him. The story really begins to twist and turn after Ellen finds a Russian doll, the same doll she believes, her sister had taken from her years ago. Ellen wonders what will happen to her relationship, with Finn, if Layla suddenly makes an appearance in their lives. Bring Me Back is a true, mind-twisting, psychological thriller. Although this novel isn’t completely believable and dragged a bit in the middle, it was still, captivating and enjoyable. I read the book in two days. This is the first work that I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Too many plot holes-spoilers. This book is based on a man, and the love of his life coming back to him as her sister, and him not being able to tell the difference . It is much too far fetched and improbable. I think he is trying to insinuate mental illness, maybe PTSD, but it is so un-realistic as to be un-readable. I liked Behind Closed Doors but I don’t think I’ll try this author again.

Bring Me Back. Sorry, just didn’t like it, felt the story was repetitive. I think I was waiting for the ending to have a big twist.

A True Love Story?. Twists and turns brought to light by the trio? One? Two? More? One never knew the impact of Russian dolls. You’ll be pulled into the story unable to leave the written word. Let’s take a trip. Shall we?

Terrible Story Terribly Told. Do not waste your time on this foolish story. It hardly makes sense. The plot is idiotic. The revelation of mental illness is rolled out sloppily. It’s not boring. You want to know what happens (especially after you spend your money). But it’s not worth it. Do not buy it! I expected more from B A Paris, as her first two novels were good. Now, I question whether she’s a good writer.

Devoured like candy. Gotta keep flipping the pages to see what happens! Frustrated with the ending, but easy and juicy read.

Page turner. This book was great. I read it in two days, stating up way too late!

So good!. I got an advanced copy and I read this book while sitting on the beach in Jamaica. I couldn’t put it down! It is so good! I love her books and this one did not disappoint. Very fast read.

Drags on. It was an OK read. I LOVED behind closed doors but this book doesn’t come close to comparing. It really drags on in the middle, repeating a lot of the same thoughts over and over.

Mooha86. Maybe HMUyhi Ighthtbhbyt

B.A Paris is such a captivating writer. Behind Close Doors, and The Breakdown had somehow a similar taste. While I was kind of unhappy how rushed and puzzling the ending felt in Behind Close Doors, it was a good story that proved B.A Paris is awesome. The Breakdown was a step-up from the Behind Closed Doors, a better distributed timeline. BRING ME BACK is very unique, original, scary

Read in two days !. It’s been a while since a book kept my attention like this. Work didn’t matter , kids didn’t matter , chores didn’t matter only Layla much like poor Finn ha. I had my suspicions and I was right in the end but the writer keeps you doubting your own suspicions. I was sad when it ended , great book

Intriguing. It’s a bit drawn out but I still enjoy the misters and the ending. I enjoy trying to guess teh ending is what keeps me entertained. The author is very good at that! I also enjoy she gives you details to everything that’s happens in between.

Bring me back review. LOVE this author and not one to leave bad reviews but this book was pretty bad. Theres no way the ending was possible, and there was not much to the plot. A lot of it felt like a redundant internal monologue that dragged on until a sudden and unrealistic ending. Was so excited for this but read it in a few hours and was pretty disappointed.

Too much repeating details. At first I was intrigued with the story. But then I found the constant back and forth frustrating. The repeat of details over and over so many times was needless. I found myself flipping through the repeats. The end was easy enough to guess. It was just a matter of how the writer got us to it.

Ughdv. Ff h cheffgvfthxgrggg

Same old premise, knew after a few chapters what would happen. Remainder of story not gripping or different enough.

You’re kidding. Impossible ending.

Great read!. I loved the book, I finished it in less then a day. It kept me on the edge of my seat and it was almost as if every time I guessed what the ending would be, the author would prove me wrong. It was definitely a page turner and I recommend for anyone who loves suspense.

Bring Me Back. Interesting read. Suspenseful in a psychological way. I am wondering how this book came out as a new release when I know I have read this book years ago.

Bring me back. This started off quite well, until the paranoia and irrational behaviour of “Finn” became too much…. And the plot became convoluted and unrealistic. I could barely finish this book, as it started to drag on….. but I did finish it, ugh to my disappointment.
