Lola is missing. good read! After a long time, this sas a notputdownable book. I like the style, mixing personal problems of DI with the case in hand, i would wang more about the assistant !

Storyline good but….. I didn’t like the characters, the portrayal of the main character. Perhaps it’s the way you read something and have a picture of them. I enjoyed the story but the characters weren’t to my liking.

Riveting read. Lola is Missing….just vanished with no trace. No break in, just gone. Mother is acting very strange and parents are in the process of divorce. Detectives are investigating yet nothing shows up. Edge of your seat mystery with exceptional characters keep you guessing until the end where she is and what happened. Excellent read.

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!. The very 1st book I’ve read by Alison James but most definitely will not be the last! Started out absolutely amazing so I was hoping for a story that would grip me and I was not disappointed. Superbly written, edge of the seat story and finished in 24 hours!! Cannot wait to start the next one .

Lola is missing. Not a bad read. Pity about the Americanisms in the grammar. Got a bit too much Key Stone Cops at times. Yet another police woman who hardly eats but runs, goes boxing, never sleeps, but always gets there. This seems to be par for the course these days.

SLOW. A surprising end to the plot. Very readable. But the best way I can describe it is ‘slow’! Just pleased I hadn’t paid more for it. Lacks pace.

Loved it.. Loved it. I found myself picking the book up throughout the day even if I only had time to read a few pages, wanting to find out what happened next. This is rare for me. The story moved on quickly while still allowing some time for us to get to know the main characters. I want to know what cases they work on next, please. The writing style was just to my taste, without any of the overused gimmicks favoured by the ‘I’ve been on a creative writing course’ brigade. I think the writer must have special talent to produce sentences that flowed so deceptively smoothly, which helped to make it such a pleasant, quick and easy read.

An absorbing read. Great characters in Rachel and her sidekick, good plotting and writing, very procedural which is good but frustrating at times as indeed police work must often be.

Easy read. Good characters with believable personalities and relationships. The story line kept me hooked until the end.

Entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had engaging characters, a worthy timeline police procedure, a hint of romance in the mix & a race against time. Better still it was on the ‘free’ list! But like all good books I had to purchase book 2 in the series. That basically has a lot going in the author’s favour.

Nothing new to see here, folks.. The author is English born, spent her formative years abroad, studied languages at Oxford, became a journalist and author, had two kids, then went back to uni to do law. There followed a three-year stint as a paralegal at a criminal law firm, followed by time as a commercial copywriter and writing for TV, before she resumed writing fiction, as you would. This is the first in a series based around a late thirties female detective inspector with commitment issues, who is addicted to exercise but has no problem with smokes, gambling or drugs. Our gal works for the National Crime Authority, following a stint at Interpol. She and her male Detective Sergeant partner, are called into help Sussex police with the disappearance/presumed abduction of a primary school age girl. The parents are in the process of splitting up. The Dad is the obvious culprit, especially when he disappears too, although that doesn’t seem quite right to our gal given that it doesn’t happen till months later. Investigation follows. Leads are explored and dismissed. Multiple times. Our gal’s personal life gets a trifle messy. Her partner has problems of his own. Yada, yada, and build to a breathless ending. (They find the lost girl in the nick of time.) Competent genre prose that wallows in highly familiar tropes and cliche for a while before partially resurrecting itself towards the end.

Lola is Missing. Quite good and kept me reading into the night. A different approach as is she dead, alive , kidnapped?? Not believable in the sense that dressed as a boy she could go undetected walking to school with other kids who knew her .

Excellent Read!. Alison James draws the reader in not only with her ability to twist a plot and tell a good story but with her characters. There are no two dimensionals here. Every character is introduced and then continues to grow throughout the book. Bought the next book in the series the minute I finished the first because I literally could not put Lola is Missing down. Highly recommend!
