Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly Book Summary

Harry Bosch teams up with LAPD Detective Renée Ballard to face the unsolved murder of a runaway, and the fight to bring a killer to justice.
Detective Renée Ballard is working the night beat -- known in LAPD slang as "the late show" -- and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin.
Ballard can't let him go through department records, but when he leaves, she looks into the case herself and feels a deep tug of empathy and anger. She has never been the kind of cop who leaves the job behind at the end of her shift -- and she wants in.
The murder, unsolved, was of fifteen-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally killed, her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now Ballard joins forces with Bosch to find out what happened to Daisy, and to finally bring her killer to justice. Along the way, the two detectives forge a fragile trust, but this new partnership is put to the test when the case takes an unexpected and dangerous turn.
Dark Sacred Night for the first time brings together these two powerhouse detectives in a riveting story that unfolds with furious momentum. And it shows once more why "there's no doubt Connelly is a master of crime fiction" (Associated Press).

NOIR BOSCH. Definitely, in my estimation, one of Connelly’s best books and I’ve read them all. Multi-layered, well thought out , gripping and for once emotional. There’s a sadness to Bosch in this one that’s palpable and heartfelt. Neither Bosch nor Rene Ballard feel like cut and paste cookie cutter characters. I feel like I’ve met Ballard in Venice once or twice.

Detective Ballard Returns!. Welcome back, Renee! Another great one!

Dark Sacred Night. Mediocre-a tedious, disappointing read. Don’t waste your money! This is probably the least interesting book Connelly has written in his career.

Connelly Slipping??. I’ve read all the Bosch books and this one just was not the read of the past. It wasn’t until well past mid-way that things got interesting and even then often derailed by the pointless addition of a ‘roommate’. Connelly, unfortunately, is joining Follett, DeMille, Burke, Deaver, Grisham, Kellerman.... in churning out steadily declining books.

Great Team. I love Harry Bosch!

Another Great One!. I hope there is another. I hope that this is the beginning of the Ballard and Bosch series…They are a good team...

Awesome book. Great character development and good story. Twist and turns in a fast yet steady manner.

Dark Sacred Night. I’m a huge Bosch fan. I’ve read every book, but I found this latest wanting. The beauty of Bosch is the complexity of his character. In this book it was lost. It appears that in the attempt to also give us Rene Ballard the depth of both characters was sacrificed. I also felt that the story arcs were too convenient. The case was not interesting. Any Jeopardy was forced and not fully realized. When I read a Bosch book I can’t put it down. That was not the case this time. I hopeful for the next one.

Dark Sacred Night. Just the usual terrific Bosch story! Great link in story line to story line. Loved it!

Dark sacred night. I enjoyed it thoroughly and thought the mix of Bosch and Ballard very good

Outstanding. Connelly never disappoints, what a thrill ride. Outstanding

Not a good book.. This book really doesn’t merit a review.

Phoned it In. I own almost every book Michael Connelly has ever written. I was so very disappointed with this one. Neither character drew me in. Bosch doesn’t feel like the same character anymore. Ballard’s blatant disregard for her own safety just doesn’t cut it. It was like Connelly had forgotten all police procedures he has written over the past two decades. Overall, the book was choppy. Maybe he’s too busy on the set of Bosch. Either way, it feels like he just phoned this one in without filling out the characters. I hope the next one is better.

Great Read. So, the Bosch - Ballard saga begins. I'm confident we'll all enjoy this "partnership" for years to come! I ran into Titus recently in an LA health food store. It was so fun and interesting to meet and chat with him. I hope the powers to be decide to include Ballard in the Bosch TV series. I'd like to "meet" her someday too!

Yet another great book. As the Bosch series is starting to run its course Michael Connelly has found the perfect way for it to continue in Ballard, by combining the new and the old he has created a masterpiece and a great way to eventually make Ballard the star of the show. How Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series merged with Jack Jr., Ballard is the new face of the franchise.

Outstanding!. I love this new pairing, and can't wait to see where this partnership leads. Harry Bosch is on of the best characters in fiction and now he has a new partner in Ballard that matches his determination to ensure no victim is forgotten and everyone matters.

Dark Sacred Night. Michael Connelly is a brilliant writer and I have read all his books over the past twenty years. Inevitably, I am always saddened as I near the end of each book because I so enjoy his skill and his superb storytelling ability. This book however is different… It appears if Connelly is moving away from Bosch in print and is now more interested in his Amazon Prime Bosch series. And that’s all right! He has given so much pleasure to so many of us for so many years and now as he reaches his mid 60s let’s all give him a break and reflect on his brilliance, his insightful efforts and let him know that whatever he chooses to do going forward is fine! I for one, honor his creativity, his diligence and his years of giving us all extraordinary pleasure.

Five star read. Once again Michael Connelly has written a five star. The main characters played their roles well and it read like pages from a sad current events story. But the end result......well that’s for the reader to discover. Well done Michael and we look forward to the next great installment.

VERY Disappointed. This should have been advertised as a Ballard novel......Bosch was just passing thru....definitely not up to snuff...if you are a Harry Bosch fan I wouldn’t recommend.

Well done!. My measure for a really fantastic book is whether I’m so involved with the characters and the tension is so high that I have to bookmark where I’m at so I can skip forward to read the last chapter. This one... I did the bookmark but resisted flipping to the last chapter. I finished it in a day. Not a page-burner at first, but it built steadily and by 3/4 of the way through, I couldn’t put it down.

GREAT BOOK. Omg this book was so good. Believe it or not I haven’t read a book in years and it was soothing to read one I really enjoyed. Yeet

Renee &Harry. Perfect together. Another Connelly hit. I never get tired of Harry.

Great Read, Interesting Plot. I this book, Bosch works with a woman Detective, Ballard. The back and forth of his action then hers makes for very interesting reading. I really enjoyed it. Keep them coming!

Good but too much ID politics. As a woman, who worked in male dominated field, I don’t feel like a victim, I don’t feel that I have to constantly focus on our differences. I wish this new character would do the same. There are tons of woman haters out there, but there are just as many man haters too. One is not wrong, and the other justified. Murder is murder, it is not worse for one sex or another. Great book, but the ID politics in the news is more than enough- best to leave this one dimensional view of the world to social media & fake news.

Narration Is bust. Titus Welliver does a female voice A LOT better than the female narrator does a male voice. HORRIBLE! I quit after an hour.

Never Stop Looking - Great New Crime Team. The first book of more to follow. Great story of murders solved after years of trying to find the trust. Renee and Bosch are the new team and they are persistent.

Great read. The story takes many twists and turns. Has a surprise ending

Dark Scared Night. Not his best. Disappointing

Dark Sacred Night. Loved this book. Always a great story with terrific, believable characters.

Awesome. Best book of 2018. Excellent

Great !. Well done , all is right with Renee and Harry !

Great read at a great price. I really enjoyed this story and sounds like we will see more of Ballard and Bosch. That is good as I will be back for more. The price point of the download was very reasonable, that is why I purchased it. I will no longer pay outrageous prices for eBooks, NO MATTER WHO THE AUTHOR IS. I will just find new writers, there are thousands of them around. Thank you Michael Connelly for looking after your fans. I will buy again.
