Interesting. Was a really great story wished the ending was better. Didn’t realize I was reading the ending when I was reading it.

Great book!. I like that this is something new and fresh that we haven’t seen before. It’s love with a twist, I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Debt. By Charlotte Byrd Good story line , serious twist but happy ending!

The complete The Debt by Charlotte Byrd from WHR. Brielle is a hard working waitress in a truck stop and is working to pay for her mother's cancer treatment. Wyatt and his friends just happen to stop in for bite on their way to the big city. Wyatt doesn't like how Brielle is treated by one of her customers. Wyatt comes back the next day and a coworker fills him in on why she's so standoffish. She needs this job to pay for her mother's treatments. Wyatt arranges for funds to be sent to Brielle to cover the experimental treatments. Once her mother has recovered, Brielle receives an offer to pay back the Debt. A Debt she didn't know she owed.

Couldn’t finish the first chapter. I’ve never been a fan of first person fiction, but it tried for several pages to ignore it. I prefer to have a omniscient narrator rather than a friend sharing an experience. I was willing to give the book a try despite this. What drove me away was five pages of choppy writing, harsh and awkward sentences, and more tell than show. Rather then tell your reader that mom is serious when she uses your middle name, show the reader your reactions to hearing your middle name. I promise we’ll understand she’s serious. There were a lot of cliches in those five pages and none if it was something I hadn’t read before. Add to that a full page of recounting watching a medical drama and I’m wondering why we need so much backstory on the dying mom in a romance novel. Where was the hook? If things like this don’t bother you, you can judge the book on its plot. But the writing wasn’t for me.

Its ok. The book fell flat for me. Sophia was a spoiled women with the why me attitude. Jax I wasn’t sure what his role was. The ending was a disappointment.

Lacked Character and Plot Development. This book wasn’t that bad. My problem comes from the plot. There were too many twists in turns for one book with no real development. There was a total of maybe three conflicts in the story and each of those conflicts could have been the main point in their own book, with more thought and detail behind them. This book lacked true character development for Sophia and Jax, even though they were the main characters. Also, there was no real sense of time for half the book. There were a few key words that signified how much time had passed however, things and details just wouldn’t align to the time frame that was given. I don’t usually leave bad reviews for books because I have a tendency to like almost every story I read, but this just didn’t do it for me. It made me want to go in and fix everything I just mentioned just so I could enjoy it the way I do most books. I’m extremely disappointed.

Horrible storytelling. I didn’t enjoy how fast the story went because nothing was ever fully fleshed out.

All over the place. The plot had no solid points. New characters and relationships within the last chapters. The relationship between Jax and Sophia seemed really surface and inorganic. Waste of time.

Disappointing. The storyline had great promise. Unfortunately the publishers description was the best part of the book. There were too many unnecessary plot twists that came out of nowhere that didn’t add to the story. They only created confusion. Too much relationship angst between characters that was most times very unbelievable. For example, there is no way a loving daughter would be upset about her mother finding love and happiness after her having lost a child and surviving cancer. It wasn’t even a necessary element to the story. Not sure if the author was just trying to add characters for future books for a series or if the author is just that scatterbrained. The author could find some value in a few beta readers.

Just no.... I felt the story line was completely disjointed. I painstaking my read the whole book and I’m just glad it’s over.

Beautiful story. Great read about money well used to help a cancer patient. Jax is a great character and I loved how giving and loving he is.

Review. I read the “Tell Me to Run” series first and enjoyed it a lot and wanted to read more of Charlottes books but I feel like they are all the same or extremely similar. I tried out two of her other books but they were just the same book with different names. She’s a super talented author I just expected more variety.

This is a bad book. I feel there must be a character flaw in me that I finished reading this book. It was like watching a train wreck crash in slow motion. The characters are unbelievable. You tell yourself they can’t be that stupid in their choices, but they are. You tell yourself, that is the last incredibly bad choice she will make, and she makes another. You tell yourself that is the last disaster to prop up the story line, and then there is another one. I can hardly believe I read to the end of the book. The end turned out to be the best part, when the book was over and I could forget about the characters and move one.

Not for me. Admittedly I only made around half way though. The characters were giving me whiplash and I struggled to believe the decisions the characters made which were the basis of the story.

An enjoyable story. I enjoyed this book overall, but really couldn’t understand some of the main character’s actions, especially when they are so opposite to how she has been described earlier in the book. It almost feels as though drama had to be inserted into the story, but it only worked as drama if she acted out of character! That being said, I enjoyed the premise of the story, and it ran along fairly well despite the inconsistencies already referred to. This is the first book of Charlotte Byrd’s that I’ve read, and I’d like to read more.

Jax 💙. Although I was a little disappointed in the ending not for any other reason that I like to see what happened after 🙈 I can honestly say I was hooked and loved this story

Underwhelming. This book is unfortunately very poorly written as it has no flow, along with narration that is completely based on telling rather than showing. I’m not sure what I was expecting but being inspired by Netflix’s “365 days” I was hopeful of some thing better. Perhaps some of the authors other books are better.

Debt. Can I give it a negative rating? One of the worst books I have read.

Boring. A really strange book was bland and no emotion
