It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time by Kylie Scott Book Summary

Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you'll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!" - Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love . Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite . But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

Where do I start?. A lot of people start reviews with negatives, but I’m going to go ahead and start with the positives: I liked the plot of this book, the characters were really funny and really fit together, I loved the fact that Scott tried the whole past and present jump, and lastly... the author is one of my favorites so I went ahead and bought the book. I bought this book not knowing what it was about and as I started reading I began to get more and more confused. The whole reason for the two main characters not being nice to each other was a bit blown up, but if it was something a bit more serious it would have made the plot even better. In one part of the book (towards the end) I almost felt like Scott was a bit rushed to end the book. I would have really loved to have more of a connection with these characters, but I feel like there was never character development... they sort of stayed the same throughout the whole book. All in all, I love Kylie Scott but this book was not for me. I’m more into the Stage Dive series and the Drive Bar series. If you haven’t read those yet I’m not exaggerating (okay maybe a little) you NEED to because they are SO GOOD!

It’s a fun, sexy, angst-filled read. 4.5 Hearts It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time is Kylie Scott’s next standalone novel. I have been reading her books off and on for the last few years. I wish I could read them all but I am glad that I had the time for this one. I do love a good forbidden romance, and second chances so this one was right up my alley. Seven years. It had been seven years since Adele was in the same room as her first love and now she was having to sharing a house with him. To say it was awkward was an understatement. She was eighteen when she made her move on her older best friend and it was the last time she saw him. She was sent back to her mom’s and never turned back. Not until, her father found Love again and was getting married. Now, she was back for five days. She is not eighteen anymore. She is twenty-five and over him. She made a mistake all those years ago and she wasn’t going to be repeating it. Peter didn’t even seem to want her there so it would be easy. She knew he was upset but it’s been years, can he let it go and start over? Peter and Adele’s relationship is complicated. She was sixteen and he was thirty-one when they first met. She was visiting her dad for six weeks and he worked for the man. Peter liked hanging out with Adele while her dad was busy working. He even took her on dates. He never looked as more than a friend. A kid. Now, she was no longer a child. She was her own woman. A beautiful one. A woman who knew him probably better than he knew himself even after all these years. But, is that love or does it mean it’s time to move on from the past and be friends again? I thought this story was funny, cute, and oh so frustrating. I just wanted to go into the book and slap Peter. I also wanted to hug him. He just had that way about him. I know Adele felt the same way. But for real, it’s a complicated relationship that needs work. That is what made it real. Both characters are uncertain. To hale to feel. How to act. How to let go. Overall...it’s a fun, sexy, angst-filled read. The characters are likable. The writing is great. It’s not my favorite Kylie book but I very much enjoyed it. Quotes: It had been seven years, but my libido did not seem to have lost any of the teenage lust for Pete. “You can’t have it both ways, Pete,” I said. “Women dig scars. This is going to bring your game up to a whole other level. You should probably be thanking me.”

3.75 stars—emotional & heart breaking. 3.75 stars --IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME by Kylie Scott is a contemporary, adult, second chance, erotic, romance story line focusing on twenty-five year old Adele Reid , and forty-year old Pete Gallagher. Told from first person point of view (Adele Reid) IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME follows the rebuilding relationship between twenty-five year old Adele Reid , and forty-year old Pete Gallagher. Nine years earlier, a then sixteen-year old Adele Reid, was pawned off onto her father’s new hire, thirty-one year old Peter Gallagher. For six weeks, every summer, Adele would visit her father, only to find herself ‘babysat’ by her father’s employee, an employee for whom Adele had developed feelings, feelings she revealed after her eighteenth birthday. Adele’s father Andrew, having discovered by accident, his daughter’s feelings towards his most trusted employee, inadvertently forces his daughter out of his life, and that of the man with whom she had fallen in love. Fast forward to present day, wherein Adele’s father Andrew is about to remarry, leaving Adele, once again, in the hands of Peter Gallagher, the man who destroyed her heart, and continues to send mixed messages with every taunt, rejection, and condescending remark. What ensues is the acrimonious but rebuilding friendship and growing love between Peter and Adele, and the fall-out as Peter continues to push away the woman with whom he was falling in love. Peter Gallagher struggles to accept change in his well-ordered life, and the return of Adele Reid, dredges up too many painful memories of a time long ago. Adele has never stopped loving the man who broke her heart, a man who will continue to send mix messages of love and hate for a woman he had hoped moved on from the past. The relationship between Adele and Pete is one of second-chances, of a sort, for two people whose friendship was destroyed by misunderstanding, betrayal, heart break and humiliation. At one time, Pete was able to tell Adele everything about his life but time, maturity and a sense of loss, has hardened Peter Gallagher’s heart to love and a happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive but our hero’s inability to let go; his back and forth, bi-polar emotional up and downs with Adele Reid was disheartening and disappointing. Our heroine is left floundering as to the how, what and why of Peter’s battle between wanting Adele Reid or letting her go, an unattractive quality for any story line hero. We are introduced to Adele’s father Andrew, and his new wife Shanti; Peter’s current / ex-girlfriend Leona; furniture designer Jeremy Karas; as well as Adele’s roommates Maddie and Hazel. IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME is an emotional read; a heart breaking story about two people caught up in memories from the past, a past mired in pain, bitterness, rejection and regret. Although some of the scenes were intended to add humor and fun, the desired affect was lost due in part to the ongoing rejection and heart breaking turmoil. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance is conflicted, infuriating and suffers from the hero’s constant rebuffs and dismissals.

My favourite author. Snarky banter, undeniable chemistry, and a girl-crush fulfilled...buy this book!
