Creative Geniuses. Keone and Mari have always been amazing story tellers, and I have to admit that after reading/watching/enjoying Ruth, there could never be a doubt in my mind that these two of the world’s best leading creatives. The writing led me on and on to the next page, as I anticipated the film portion of each chapter wondering what incredible choreography I would be blessed with next. The detail in every film piece was so beautifully placed and directed that I knew each setting, movement, angle, and so on was meticulously crafted to complement the beautiful writing that described Ruth’s world. Settings and direction that could only be dreamed of, and then further amplified into creative a master piece within each chapter tied dance, film, literature, illustration, music, and the entire world and support of creatives into one book. At the end of Ruth I found myself tying all the film pieces back together and how they embodied each of Ruth’s struggles and emotions throughout her story; I can’t help but believe that Keone and Mari’s creativity and talent were intentionally made to find each other in life, to complement each other and further advance the world of art.

Wow. This whole book is next level and just a whole new look at dance and the possibilities available to dancers. Thank you Keone and Mari for your endless creativity and the constantly keeping the dance community’s need for it more than satisfied. You guys have outdone yourselves with this project. Blessed!. This was not only a great story, amazing read but to experience the dance was just a complete blessing. Setting the bar high for creatives. Keone & Mari, I have been waiting months for this release and it was worth every minute of it. I’ve been challenged and inspired for years by your creativity and simply the way you live your lives. This book is just another large step in that same direction. I only wish it were longer haha! The more I read, the more I wanted to know Ruth and how she managed to survive after losing such a large part of herself. I hope to hear more from Hunter and how he uses his grandpas influence to make those tuff life decisions. You both took everything that could go into a creative process and made it one beautiful piece. It’s genius. And I can’t wait to see, hear, and read more. Thank you for pushing the rest of us to think and do bigger. I’m going to go finish crying in the corner now.

I wish I could write so much more...... I feel so happy to be able to be fully immersed in this book. It’s something I want to share with my fellow dancers and my non dance friends. Magical experience from beginning to end. Keone and Mari have been pioneers of the dance form since the very beginning, and this book pushes the envelope even further. Groundbreaking.. It’s obvious that this pushes the boundaries of dance as a medium — theres no doubt. The combination of dance, original music, thoughtful storytelling all mixing and matching seamlessly is unprecedented. On top of this, each individual medium (the music, the plot, the dancing) are individually incredibly strong. I could read this book without the dance and still be amazed — the plot is that good and beautifully tugs on your emotions. You’re doing yourself an injustice if you don’t read this beauty all the way through.

A milestone for the urban dance community!. I’ve been waiting for this book ever since Keone and Mari announced it two years ago, and I was not disappointed! Highly recommended. As a 22 year old who is pursuing dance, this book really struck a chord in me. Not because of the incredible dance videos included (as expected from these two legends. if you aren’t familiar, don’t let me undersell their prowess in dance. They are able to tell stories so well through movement, and the things they do visually are just mesmerizing... looking at you chapter 2) but because of the story told. It just feels like a true representation of the complex relationships within a modern-day, middle-class family. They really did something special that I believe everyone of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy and take something away from.

Beautiful Experience. I became a Keone and Mari fan from their time on World of Dance last year, because of their unique way to tell a story through movement. This unique piece of art that they have put together, that utilizes written words, illustrations, and dance to tell a story that is felt universally had me in tears by the last chapter. This dance book shows how different genres of art can all work together to illustrate and make you feel the universality of life with family - its ups and downs, fights and reconciliations, and deep love that binds it all together. One of my favorite authors, Henri Nouwen, wrote, "Let's trust that the beauty of our lives becomes visible where mourning and dancing touch each other." This dance book brings that beauty to life.

A Must-Read Experience. Books ask for time and attention, and this book had me for both. With the carefully thought out guidance of the introduction, you are immediately welcomed into the experience and aware of their ambitious and inclusive story. The authors/creators Keone and Mari have such a special way of sharing about one’s story through art. This is more than just a page turner or a book with a moral. It is an invitation to heighten the experience to not only be reading a book but really understanding the story through the simplicity of the character’s pictures and the artistic videos expressing feelings and dreams that parallel or reflect real experiences. We often relate our lives’s to chapters, so the written form of a story is not the only way to tell it, and Keone and Mari are reinnovating story-telling. I have so much good to say about this book as well as Keone and Mari. In short, this is an amazing book with powerful effort, community, and such a touching story. I cried amongst the many other connections I felt throughout the book!
