Primary Target: The Forging of Luke Stone—Book #1 by Jack Mars Book Summary

“One of the best thrillers I have read this year.”
--Books and Movie Reviews (re Any Means Necessary)

In the much-anticipated debut of a new series by #1 bestseller Jack Mars, when elite Delta Force soldier Luke Stone, 29, joins a secretive government agency, he is dispatched on the mission of a lifetime: a whirlwind race across Europe and the Mid-East to save the President’s daughter before she is beheaded by terrorists.

In PRIMARY TARGET (Book #1), we see the forging of one of the world’s toughest—and most lethal—soldiers: Luke Stone. A 29 year old veteran who has seen enough battle to last a lifetime, Luke is tapped by the Special Response Team, a secretive new FBI agency (led by his mentor Don Morris) to tackle the most high-stake terrorism operations in the world.

Luke, still haunted by his wartime past and newly married to an expecting Becca, is dispatched on a mission to Iraq, with his new partner Ed Newsam, to bring in a rogue American contractor. But what begins as a routine mission mushrooms into something much, much bigger.

When the President’s teenage daughter, kidnapped in Europe, is ransomed by terrorists, Luke may be the only one in the world who can save her before it is too late.

PRIMARY TARGET is an un-putdownable military thriller, a wild action ride that will leave you turning pages late into the night. It marks the long-anticipated debut of a riveting new series by #1 bestseller Jack Mars, dubbed “one of the best thriller authors” out there.

Primary Target. I loved the first prequel to the Luke Stone series and had a hard time putting this book down. Having read most of the original series, I enjoyed reading the back story on Luke Stone and how his team has been built. Great story line that I hope will continue for a long time to come.

Primary Target. Too much violence.

Primary Target. This author really knows how to engage your imagination with words. Easy to read with a lot of actions.

Fantastic. This was intense and full of suspense. I enjoyed the action packed novel and the characters.

Timeline doesn't match. First book in the Luke Stone series states he's just meeting Newsam. Then this book shows Stone already knew him. Still a good read but...

Primary Target. Great book..rad it in 2 days. Really let’s you understand how Luke Stone became who he his. Excellent writing. Can’t wait for the next book

Primary Target. Luke Stone - Reluctant Hero. Torn between love for his pregnant wife and doing his duty he goes out to lead a team of black operators and technical and intelligence experts to execute needed operations. Going out on a short simple operation is neither short nor simple. If you like the Luke Stone series this is the book for you. If you have not read that series this book is a great introduction to him, his team, and his family.

FAST PACED ACTION THRILLER. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fast paced action, adventure thriller about hero Luke Stone. I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of the Luke Stone series.

Primary Tatget. A page turner thriller with non stop action

Great start. Enjoyed the groundwork for this character. Reads like most military action works, and that is why I will get the next one!

Thrilling read. My first Jack Mars novel....certainly not my last

Primary Target. Read this book and thank God for our real life heroes.

Primary Target-the Forging of Luke Stone-Book #1. This book was a real page turner. I’ve read all of Jack Mars books and Luke Stone just gets better and better. Found it hard to put down just wanting to read what happens next. It’s great to find out Luke Stone’s background. Already preordered #2. Love all the characters and how they interact. Look forward to reading each and every one Mr. Mars. Spend many happy hours emerged in reading your stories and look forward to many more. Dee P NJ

Great read with believable background.. As a retired sailor, who spent sometime mine hunting in the Persian Gulf before Desert Shield/Storm, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Amazing read!. Honestly couldn’t put it down! Engaging and enthralling from start to finish!

Primary target. Great story great characters always moving forward loved it couldn’t stop reading it

Suspense!. I liked how this book never had boring spots. It was suspense filled! You felt as though you were watching a real behind the scenes scenario...

Primary Target. Wow talk about tense!!!

Primary Target. Well written page turning action story! Looking forward to reading more in the Luke Stone series.

And so it begins. A prequel to the excellent Luke Stone series, Primary Target tells how it all began. Luke Stone, part of the Delta Force, meets up for the first time with his future teammates: Ed Newsom, Trudy Wellington, Mark Swann, and Don Morris, as well as his wife Becca and son Gunner (in utero). It’s an action-packed story that grips you through multiple adventures as Luke transitions from Delta Force to an elite FBI team. It introduces you to Luke’s eventual connection to the White House that becomes so primary to the series. Jack Mars is an excellent author and I recommend the entire series. I look forward to the next prequel as well as the next installment in the regular series.

Primary Target. Exciting and Entertaining! Great book. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Primary Target. Enjoyed the book and all the action in it. Poor guys never got any rest. Good read with a happy ending for some.

Outstanding. This book felt like I was watching a movie. Great book thank you.

Primary Target. Great read lots of action and a good story to boot.

Decent Read. I was able to read this book fairly quickly, which is a good thing coming from me. It was very entertaining and had some thriller vibes with it as well. I will say that, even though I’m no expert, there were a couple parts that seemed far fetched. However, this book deserves a read and I would suggest it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Primary Target. Great action, vivid fight scenes, interesting read. Have enjoyed all Mr. Mars books. Too bad ; not all his books are available via Electronic books.

my review.. well, it wasn’t disappointing … but i fill the missions were too easy. i mean just two soldiers taking down a number of al qaeda troupes?? i know they had back up but it was all over when they arrived.

Luke rocks. Great action! Worth reading. Many of the same characters as in the series

I LOVED this book! I couldn’t put it down.. I have watched so many military movies growing up with my dad. Coming from a military family it just fit! But this was the first time I read a book about it! And the storyline & characters were so real. What a fantastic plot!! I now have a favorite writer I will read more of as much as I can. Pauline Goodwin North Carolina

The most amazing book I’ve ever read. This book was one of my favorite books and it reminded me of Olympus has Fallen except that this book was more extreme. Luke was my favorite character too because he was intense, brutal, and funny, but he also faced many hardships that felt real. The book had many intense moments that felt like a real gruesome and bloody battlefield. I also liked how descriptive it was when the most gruesome moments happen because you could picture these moments in your mind that would make your skin crawl. Overall, the book was great and I would recommend this book to everyone.

Great Read.... As I have been from the first book, I can’t wait for more. It’s great to get more background and understanding about Luke Stone. Probably my favorite character in the genre. When I start the Luke Stone books, I find them difficult to put down. I highly recommend the series.

Another blockbuster! Excellent action and intrigue!. Mars, with his lean prose, sets up action scenes brilliantly and also in very few words sets the scene which communicates an understanding of what has been going on & what is going on in the Middle East, the world stage and the pressure points that need to be addressed by a special operations team.

Bonus Material?. My thanks to the author for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Honestly.... this book has action and adventure galore but having read the Luke Stone books, it left me feeling like I’d just watched the “bonus material” on a DVD. The book fills in background of several events that have been referred to in the Stone series, most notably the kidnapping of the President’s daughter. It also tees up a character references for several people who feature in the Stone books. I rate three stars for Mars’ writing, which I enjoy, but that’s all I can do; overall it seemed like reworked edits from Stone 1 & 2. Recommended for SERIOUS Luke Stone fans only, or as a first reading of anything Luke Stone.

Pretty good. I think is a really good book I can’t take my eyes off it

Sure to be a hit!. Already a fan of the Luke Stone series it is great to go back and learn how the Luke Stone we know was forged. This new book follows the authors well established flight plan and leads you on a spare and fast-paced action adventure. Just the right amount of time on overall character development. This new prequel series is sure to be a hit regardless if you are already a fan of Luke. Well done Jack.

A Fast Paced Action Thriller. Very interesting! A great read

Dope. Drink water @all spec ops people.

Primary Target At Warp Speed. I’m a big fan of covert operation and geopolitical novels. Jack Mars’s Primary Target is a great read in this genre. His novel is action packed with palpable tension on every page. His prose is honest and real, draws the reader in at every step. The scene at the home of Ahmet’s parents is a perfect example. Or look at the unexpected jump from the chopper as Luke leads a rescue effort. Despite the tension, look for wit throughout. Whether it’s Ed Newsam or the two chopper pilots, you’ll find sardonic wit from these characters. It’s very hard to put down this novel. And out of all the death and destruction comes life and hope as Luke asks: What does it all mean.

Primary command. Well written a book you cannot put down action from first to last page

Excellent from start to finish. Fast paced and very exciting, I’ll definitely be reading more books in this series.

Enjoyable but forgettable. Pleasant book to read but lots of this type of book now being written with a US anti hero saving the world.

A thrilling page turner. Couldn’t put it down. Explains a lot of Luke Stones back story. Really enjoyed it

The tale is a classic military action book, probably make a good film. Primary Target: The Forging of Luke Stone — Book 1 by Jack Mars Everybody writes books with a repeating element & a series name now-a-days, ‘Primary’ & ‘The Forging of Luke Stone’ in this case. Ok, Luke is ex-Delta Force, big, rugged, married, part of another series of 7 books at this stage. We first see him in a crew dragged by a superior officer into attacking an Afghan terrorist in a secure location, in a storm which takes out the other half of the team in a helicopter. The attack goes badly, head guy gets killed, almost the rest of the crew gets killed, only three survive. Luke, almost unharmed and two others, one missing legs, other head damaged. So, Luke gets his team killed is the rumours. Luke is recruited to the FBI-SRT which isn’t Search & Rescue it’s the FBI Special Response Team (he’s not military now). And for those of us outside the US, apparently FBI isn’t restricted to just inside America (any more?). At some stage the President’s daughter gets abducted (again?) and a potential war develops. The story has a good pace, no slow bits, no rushed bits, finished it pretty quickly given I didn’t touch it over the weekend. Only one track from one incident to another. The world is fairly straight forward, easy to imagine but not complicated. The characters, ok, Luke, I found him hard to endear to. Let’s face it, he gets his team killed once, nearly twice (falling helicopter). He’s very gung-ho, doesn’t listen to advice, even from superiors. Has a boss who is constantly referred to as ‘Big Daddy’ - outside America that’s a diminutive - very hard to take seriously. The tale is a classic military action book, probably make a good film, I figure it’s OK 2/5 … Key: bad 1/5, ok 2/5, good 3/5, great 4/5, unusually outstanding 5/5

Primary target. Excellent read fast paced and a real page turner Keep up the good work

Another Ripper Read. It was a pleasure to get down and dirty with Luke Stone again. This book is a fast paced introduction to the Special Response Team. Anyone who has read any of the previous Luke Stone instalments will not be disappointed. If your looking for a fast paced action adventure start here and continue with the rest of the series.
