Queen Bee by Dorothea Benton Frank Book Summary
“If I could only read one writer from now until the end of my life, it would be Dorothea Benton Frank." —Elin Hilderbrand, the New York Times bestselling author
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank’s Carolina Lowcountry in this evocative tale that returns at long last to her beloved Sullivans Island.
Beekeeper Holly McNee Jensen quietly lives in a world of her own on Sullivans Island, tending her hives and working at the local island library. Holly calls her mother The Queen Bee because she’s a demanding hulk of a woman. Her mother, a devoted hypochondriac, might be unaware that she’s quite ill but that doesn’t stop her from tormenting Holly. To escape the drama, Holly’s sister Leslie married and moved away, wanting little to do with island life. Holly’s escape is to submerge herself in the lives of the two young boys next door and their widowed father, Archie.
Her world is upended when the more flamboyant Leslie returns and both sisters, polar opposites, fixate on what’s happening in their neighbor’s home. Is Archie really in love with that awful ice queen of a woman? If Archie marries her, what will become of his little boys? Restless Leslie is desperate for validation after her imploded marriage, squandering her favors on any and all takers. Their mother ups her game in an uproarious and theatrical downward spiral. Scandalized Holly is talking to her honey bees a mile a minute, as though they’ll give her a solution to all the chaos. Maybe they will.
Queen Bee is a classic Lowcountry Tale—warm, wise and hilarious, it roars with humanity and a dropperful of whodunit added for good measure by an unseen hand. In her twentieth novel, Dorothea Benton Frank brings us back to her beloved island with an unforgettable story where the Lowcountry magic of the natural world collides with the beat of the human heart.

An easy read with charm. I loved this book. The wit and sarcasm interspersed with a tale of simplicity and happiness was a fun read. I did not want it to end. The characters are rich and varied and the Lowcountry lives on well in this book.
What a lesson of bees!. Besides being a delightfully funny book it revealed many insights to the life of bees. Great read1
Queen Bee. Perhaps the best book I’ve read this year. I’ve recommended it to all my friends.
Sweeter than honey. Such a heartwarming book. Fantastic beach read!
Queen Bee. I can’t wait for the next Dorothea Benton Frank book to be released. It’s as if she can read your mind.
Queen Bee. Easy reading
Good read!. Read in one day, really enjoyed the story!
A quirky southern tale. A story of three women in a family, each with her own disappointments and challenges, told in the backdrop of South Carolina low country. A story of trials and triumphs with a bit of tongue in cheek humor. A book to read in one or two settings and savor for a long time.
Enjoyable!. This is a really pleasant, easy read. Perfect for the beach!
Good, clean story. I love a writer that doesn’t have to go into details about sex, but gets the point across. I loved that the main character was still a virgin at the age of 30. I loved learning so much about bees. Very interesting.
Queen Bee. As always a great page-turner and a wonderful heartfelt story! Can’t wait for the next one and the children’s book!
Knowledge about bees….and sassy women.. Great story. Great book. I always get at least a few laugh out loud moments in her books.
Fun read!. Very uplifting and sometimes funny book. Loved the characters and everything I learned about bees.
2stars for Queen Bee. I really wanted to like this book, kept thinking it would get better. Instead it got crazier and made me not to want to read any more books by this author if this is how she writes.
What a great read. All of the characters grow, even the ones who seemed to be set in their ways. It is told with just the right amount of detail, humor and Southern charm.
First one for me!. Loved this book… very well written. Flowed naturally. Felt like I was there…
Delightful. Bees, cross dressers, humour. Fun read
Queen Bee. I don’t think Frank wrote this.
What?. I really don’t get this book. It was all over the place. Definite identity crisis. Not at all like her other books.
Like a children’s book. So all over the place with this book. Like a bad Hallmark movie. Rushed but long. No real story. No climax. Seriously- the only way to describe it is that it was like reading a teen girly girl piece of fiction. It was awful. Trite. Unrealistic weird characters. Forced. Gag.
Loved this one!. As usual, it held my interest all the way and I was sorry when it ended!
