In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.

After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.

But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed "The Whisper Man," for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.

Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter's crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.

And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window...

The whisper man. Great book! I really loved the ending.

Excellent. Gripping, scary, and heart-felt!

Best thriller I’ve read. I finished this book in two days because it was impossible to put down. It was incredibly clever to change the tone of the narrator between each chapter— especially the chapters focused on Jake’s thoughts and feelings. This book is full of suspense, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, you turn the page, and more surprises are revealed.

Creepyyyyyy. This book closely resembles a Stephen King novel. Excellent story! I can’t wait to read another of Alex North’s novels.

Slow burn. Loved this book. It really got under my skin, especially at night. My only complaint was that it is slightly slow, but it is written well and kept me interested even through the slower parts.

A spooky good time. Suspenseful with great twists and turns. Perfect if you love multiple perspective storytelling.

5 stars for sure. This book was incredible! The author had such a great way of keeping me on my toes page after page. I look forward to reading more books from this writer.

stuff of nightmares. Whispers outside a child’s bedroom window. What could be more frightening? Rhymes that remind you to lock your doors so the Whisper Man doesn’t get you. This is the stuff of children’s nightmares. This isn’t just a nightmare though, this is real for the residents of Featherbank. 15 years ago a serial killer terrorized the families in Featherbank, abducting children. Now it’s happening again, but the serial killer is behind bars. Neil Spencer is 6 years old and on a journey from his father’s house to his mother’s. A six year old shouldn’t have to make this journey alone. At six, a little boy should have a hand to hold. But Neil doesn’t. Neil is easy prey. And prey he becomes. It can’t be the Whisper Man, even though his mother recalls Neil telling her he was hearing whispers at night from a monster outside his bedroom window. No, the real Whisper Man is locked away forever. Yet Neil heard the whispers and now Neil is missing. Who is responsible? This story strikes fear in parent’s hearts. When you have a child, one of your worst fears is child abduction. Even though Neil’s parents were less than perfect, they shouldn’t have to go through losing a child this way. So when Tom Kennedy and his son Jake move to Featherbank to escape the memories from the death of mother and wife Rebecca, they believe they are starting over. Starting over clear across the country in a charming little town and a strange little house. They don’t know the story of the Whisper Man. The characters have their flaws. Tom tends to stay distant from Jake, feeling he isn’t the father he should be. Jake is worried that his father doesn’t want him now that his mother is gone. Detectives Beck and Willis each have their own issues. Beck is trying to climb the ladder, and Willis still harbors demons from the original Whisper Man case. These are real people who simply want to find their way. The Whisper Man was frightening. The kind of story that sent chills down my spine and kept me up half the night to find out how it was going to end. A mystery is well-written when the guilty party is unexpected. A mystery strikes a chord when it is something that you fear yourself. This mystery has all those elements. It also has a few surprises along the way. It also wasn’t just about the mystery of the Whisper Man, it was a book about real people trying to make the best of bad situations. It was a very well rounded story that I enjoyed immensely (while chewing on my fingernails!)

Fabulous book.. This is one of those books you cannot stop reading. It draws you in, you want to know more. It is so well written. I just loved it.

Horrifically Satisfying Experience. This is the most horrifying novel I think I have ever read. No chapter in any book I have ever read has scared me as much as Chapter 21. The fact that I also have some experiences in common with Tom Kennedy was especially unnerving. I highly recommend this novel.

Great Book!. Well written. Suspenseful. Appreciated the father/son relationship and the quirky house.

So, so creepy. I knew when I started The Whisper Man that the story would be creepy. I was warned by everyone and their mother, from the jacket of the book to every review I encountered. Even still, I don’t think I was adequately prepared for to story that unfolded. The Whisper Man is every parent’s worst nightmare. He comes to the window of young boys and whispers to them, luring them out of their beds. But the Whisper Man was caught years ago, and yet a new missing boy leads police to suspect someone in his circle. After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy moves to the town of Featherbank with his sensitive young son Jake. But as they settle into their new house, strange things begin to happen, starting with Jake hearing whispering outside his window. It’s told from multiple perspectives in the third person, except for Tom, who narrates his section. It worked surprisingly well for revealing details but also keeping the reader in the dark and on the edge. I devoured this book. While the creep factor was seriously real, so was the strong writing, interesting characters, and solid plot. It had all the best elements of a good thriller.

The whisperer was a good book. It took a little while for me to get into this book. I had to push my self some. I’m so glad I did. It turned out to be a good book, it just took a minute to build up. The story was good and it ended well. I would recommend it.

Absolutely terrifying!. Absolutely terrifying! This book kept me up at night. It was a quick read I enjoyed the pace of the book. Will definitely read more books by this author.

The Whisper Man. A scary book I could not put down until I knew the ending. Actions speak louder than words, and this book demonstrated the powerful influences for good or evil that fathers ( or mothers ) have on their children. Loved Pete, Tom, and Jake but Frank Carter was repulsive. Francis was also a monster, but also a victim. Every domestic violence victim should read this if uncertain about whether to leave an abusive relationship- especially when there are children. The harm is immeasurable.

Sooo good!. I love anything thriller, horror, etc. This book checked off all of that! It kept me on my toes the whole time, and even freaked me out enough to put it down before bed lol. A must read!

Wonderful read!. What a great book! I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. But I absolutely loved it.

So good!. Finished this book in 2 days. Total page turner!!

Thrilling. Like watching investigation ID all in you head

Nice. Nice read, though it was more mystery than thriller

Had some good twists. I liked this a lot. It had some good twists that I didn’t see coming. Some parts were really creep and made me sit upright. This isn’t a book full of gore, just a good psychological thriller

Strikingly thoughtful and simultaneously terrifying. I’m a huge horror movie buff and this was my first go at a horror book. I’ve read many thrillers but there is something more eerie and resonant with The Whisper Man. Unpredictable at many points and does not patronize with a cliche storyline. Loved this book!

Amazing Read. I couldn’t stop reading this book. The book hooked me into wanting to find out what happens next.

Yasssss. Absolutely amazing, from start to Finish. I have a love hate relationship for the cliffhangers but they kept me interested. Great book

Good. It lived up to the hype...

Great Read. Great book from start to finish! Will read more from this author.

Perfect book for fall. The summer is ending and I have been thinking about the fall. This book fits the bill perfectly. Creepy and a page turner but more importantly a father son relationship book written with such warmth and character. Predicting this one makes a big splash!

A must read. I couldn't put this book down, from start to finish I was completely and fully involved in the characters and story line, new favorite author!

The Whisper Man. I absolutely loved this book; part fantasy and part gritty reality. The story was so real in how it dealt with family relationships. I hated reading the last page; I wanted more.

The whisper Man. I gave 4 stars because i thought it would be scarier according to the reviews. I really enjoyed the story between the fathers and sons and I my heart felt for Jake as a character. Well done on the story.

Wow, wow and WOW!. I’m 45, been a lifelong horror/thriller fan. Unfortunately this applies to movies up until recently. This was so good, be prepared for a legitimate page turner…warning…may cause paper cuts!
