From Breath and Ruin by Carrie Ann Ryan Book Summary

I thought I was human. Then my crush shows me a new world. One I must save. It is said the Spirit Priestess will one day unite the two Kingdoms of the Maison Realm. She will one day fight alongside Wielders and unlock the five elements of power. It wasn’t until I nearly died that I realized they were talking about me. They tell me I have the power to save the world, and yet the war raging around me seems insurmountable. I must rely on those I thought shunned me long ago: a boy who isn’t who I thought, and a new realm of warriors who have come to protect me. The darkness is coming, and the Queen of Obscurité wants to ensure that the King of Lumière can’t get his hands on me. And to make that happen, the Queen will sacrifice anything—including me.

New from Carrie Ann Ryan!!. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book From one of my favorite contemporary and paranormal authors comes a new series and it’s YA. Carrie Ann Ryan leads us into a world of elemental magic, a world looking for it’s savior in the form of the Spirit Priestess. Lyric, love that name btw, is a recent high school graduate trying to figure out her path in the world. She knows she’s going to college, but for what? Her friends Braelynn and Emory know what they want to do in life, but not her she is just a ordinary bisexual girl from Colorado. Well ordinary but the dreams she’s been having since she was a kid. Rhodes is the hot dude from down the road, along with his sister Rosamond they show Lyric that the world is not what it seems. Ok if you have seen the cartoon or read the Manga The Last Air Bender you can kinda get the feel of the realm of Maison. There are people that can use the four elements or more than one of them. There is also a caste system with Queens, Kings, Lords, Ladies, and the lower class. Ryan has done a excellent job bringing this new world of hers to life, it’s totally different for her but not really if that makes any sense at all. The characters, other than having magic, are real as well as the Maison Realm. It’s exciting to see Lyric, who thinks she’s nothing special just a average girl, find new things about herself and how strong she really is. Couple things though, Emory is also Lyric’s ex as well as her friend, however, she seems like a real witch to me. She’s not nice at all and seems to cause trouble and fights with everyone. Two, I don’t think that Rhodes is what he seems to be besides a hot dude that show Lyric that humans are not alone and magic is real. Oh, Oh, Oh and there is another guy Easton. He’s suppose to be one of the bad guys but I get the feeling that there is more than just the attractiveness of a bad boy about him. I can not wait until book 2, to find out more about this world and to see what kind of path that Lyric takes to become the person that she is meant to be.

From breath and ruin. It sûcked. Dont bother.. it starts out great! It holds such promise! But dont bother.. youll just be frustratingly annoyed... i cant write its why im not a writer myself i try to be kind when leaving reviews so ill say that whoever wrote this is obviously a writer.. but yeah its a bunch of fluff.. and the female character is weak through the whole book and whiney... its annoying .. its like every other book in this genre.. girl meets boy girl learns shes magical girl and boy connect then girl whines about responsibility for the whole book seriously dont read this unless youre 10 or something...

Amazing. From Breath and Ruin, the new YA series from Carrie Ann Ryan was excellent. I loved the storyline and the characters. I can’t wait to see what happens with Lyric, I look forward to reading the next book.

Lyric is amazing. What would you do if someone told you that not only was there another plane of existence, you and all the other people that were from that plane were magic, but you were also the salvation for that other world? Lyric may have needed to take a deep breathe and make sure she wasn't loosing touch with reality, but she was a whole lot braver than I know I could ever be. Going on this great adventure to Maison with Lyric, Rhodes, Braelynn, and Luken has left me wanting so much more. I can't wait to find out what comes next in their journey to right the kingdoms, and what is in store for Lyric and her powers.

Brand new excitement!. This is a brand new series from Carrie Ann Ryan, a YA series, filled with magic and elements and all kinds of intriguing aspects. Lyric is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life, choose what to do for college, when she keeps experiencing nightmares. She feels it has to do with life choices, until she goes on a hike with some friends. After that, life will never be the same again. This is just the start. Can’t wait to see all the experiences yet to come

Fantastic Job!. As per usual another great book series! This was a new genre for me and I’m so glad I took the chance to read it. This book is a gem and I fell in love with all of the characters so easily. These kids where on a wild breath taking adventure and I can’t wait for the next installment!

Unexpected and amazing. I have not been a huge fan of cliff hangers, however I love this author so I gave this book 1 of multiples and all I can say is that I loved this story. Lyric is at the cusp of adulthood and is lost and doesn't know why. She has dreams that she doesn't understand and they begin intruding on her everyday life. The mystical components are done so well that you are drawn into this other realm. I can't wait for the next book to see where this unexpected part of her she never knew was buried in her soul takes her.

Hard to get through. This book.. did anyone proof read this book before publishing?? The authors thoughts are disjointed and sporadic. I can honestly say I learned no new information from the 3rd chapter to the last. There was no hero story arc, she physically did a lot of walking, but didn’t grow as a character. There were entire chapters of Lyric saying the same thing 12 different ways. Her entire relationship is built upon just thinking he’s cute. There’s probably 24 lines of dialogue in the entire book. The antagonist reveals themselves and their entire plot in one chapter without Lyric having to do or say anything. The amount of times I read “I’ll think about that later”. *eye roll* There is such potential with the idea of this world, but everything, and I mean everything, just came up short. This book was awful. 10/10 don’t waste your time. It doesn’t get better.

An amazing first book. What a book. If you love YA reads that are also paired with paranormal elements then this is the series for you. A new starter for this author brings us Lyric, a youngster who is content in her human world until she isn’t when she finds that there is another out there. Those that she trusted can no longer be and those closer to her are not what hey see. Can one girl and protectors bring together the two fractured kingdoms for the good of everyone? One kingdom what her dead so the other doesntget there heads on her. Will book one finish on a high for our Heroine? Both of my daughters loved this book so much that hard copies wer ordered for them. I can’t wait for book 2.

Excellent new YA fantasy series. This new Elements of Five series, starting with From Breath and Ruin, is very different from Carrie Ann Ryan’s previous stories. This is her first YA series, and whilst other series have also been part of a longer overarching storyline, they were also individual stories in their own right. From Breath and Ruin, is book one, but also only step one in a much longer journey. The storyline is also much deeper and more complex, and since it is literally otherworldly, it takes longer to get to grips with all the characters and their interconnections. It is however a gripping and exciting journey through a new world, with intriguing abilities and compelling characters. Since it is YA, whilst there are relationships, it is without the often insta-love of some romance books; these relationships are therefore actually deeper, richer and more tangible. This is an excellent start to a new series, which holds so much promise, with strong characters and role models for YA and older readers alike. You will need patience as the story ends with lots of unanswered questions, but hopefully it won’t be long until book two is available! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Great start to series but audiobook is better then ebook. Book 1 of Elements of Five From Breath and Ruin by Carrie Anne Ryan. I’ve got to admit I struggled getting into this book as a ebook but then started the audiobook and couldn’t turn it off. I devoured the first 16 chapters in no time. Lyric is a just about to go to college kid that still hasn’t figured out what she wants to do with her life but everyone around her seems to have there life sorted. Lyric has been having horrible nightmares that feel like they are trying to tell her something but she just misses the mark. Lyric bumps into her old school friend that suggests they go on a walk in mountains but after an accident Lyric becomes aware of other worldly beings and that her crush Rhodes and his sister Rosamond aren’t what she thought and there telling Lyric she is the lost Spirit Priestess that could unite the other Kingdoms. A lot goes on in this book with fighting other wielders people and trying to get to Rosamond but losing people on way but also trying to introduce a new world sand series is difficult. I did feel at time like Lyric was becoming annoying with always explaining she didn’t know what was going on or that she didn’t know how to use her magic or be useful but the ending of this book got very interesting and developed really quickly. I was a little disappointed with ending with Lyric but absolutely gutted over her bff Braelynn but hopefully that becomes very interesting in next book. Differently a winner but get the feeling next books in series are better.
