The Boy in the Photo by Nicole Trope Book Summary

‘Loved loved loved this book!… What an incredible story... will have you holding your breath until the shocking ending. I was glued to this book and couldn't go to sleep until I had finished it. And the next day I read it again!’ NetGalley Reviewer, 5 stars

She becomes aware of the silence at the other end of the line. A prickling sensation crawls up her arms. Her heart speeds up. ‘Found who?’ she asks, slowly, carefully, deliberately.
‘They found Daniel.’

Six years ago

Megan waits at the school gates for her six-year-old son, Daniel. As the playground empties, panic bubbles inside her. Daniel is nowhere to be found. Her darling son is missing.

Six years later

After years of sleepless nights, and endless days of missing her son, Megan finally gets the call she has been dreaming about. Daniel has walked into a police station in a remote town just a few miles away.

Megan is overjoyed – her son is finally coming home. She has kept Daniel’s room, with his Cookie Monster poster on the wall and a stack of Lego under the bed, in perfect shape to welcome him back. But when he returns, there is something different about Daniel…

According to the police, Daniel was kidnapped by his father. After his dad died in a fire, Daniel was finally able to escape. Desperate to find out the truth, Megan tries to talk to her little boy – but he barely answers her questions. Longing to help him heal, Megan tries everything – his favourite chocolate milkshake, a reunion with his best friend, a present for every birthday missed – but still, Daniel is distant.

And as they struggle to connect, Megan begins to suspect that there is more to the story. Soon, she fears that her son is hiding a secret. A secret that could destroy her family…

A heartbreaking, emotional and poignant drama about a family in turmoil. Fans of Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty and Linda Green – this moving and stirring novel is for you.

- Predictable, vanilla1 star

I don’t write reviews at all, but I just had to for this one. I was honestly intrigued at first but I won’t lie it didn’t take me long at all to figure out the end of the book. It’s very obvious and predictable. I kept reading it just to see if there was an incredible amazing twist at the end, but again, nothing. It was more of a suspense kind of feeling at the end, a long drawn out “JUST TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNOW!!!!” I would perhaps recommend this book to a teenager, but not for an adult. Who knows, maybe it is already written for teens and I just wasn’t observant enough to notice that when I bought it and hunkered down to read it. The author has a lot of potential. Even J.K. Rowling’s first HP book wasn’t all that amazing but she grew with time and the more she wrote. 1/5 stars will not be reading again.

- Loved it! Could not put it down!5 star

I started reading the sample early today and found myself mesmerized by Megan and Daniel. I had to buy the book and couldn’t wait to get to the end...and WOW what an ending! Great work!

- Sooooo amazing5 star

This book had me crying it was soooo good I really recommend it

- The boy in the photo1 star

Utterly boring. Painfully shallow

- 3rd person4 star

Whole thing is written in 3rd person, which for some reason is irritating IMO, to the point it is distracting and a chore to read. :(

- Melodrama2 star

Main character is boring. Book is overly melodramatic. Not realistic. Many reviewers said they cried...are you kidding! Get a life.

- Wow!5 star

This book was very sad and beautiful. I loved it! Having a similar, terrible ex, it was easy to imagine myself in this situation. It really has me crying at the end! ❤️

- Sooooo good!5 star

Wow I had no book on me and purchased this book from my phone and read it in two days! Awesome book, face paced, will have you crying and flipping pages to see what’s next!

Nicole Trope is a superb writer/author!!! Her stories are varied. This one kept me on edge. And, it is much different from a previous book. I am not complaining...but, this story really kept me in turmoil. In the beginning of it, was very depressing. I kept thinking: there has to be more ahead to interest and intrigue me. Found myself holding my breath at times without realizing this—until I took a big breath!!! Nicole—you are wonderful!!! Keep writing and putting out eBooks!!! 🐰🐰🐰

This book made me feel all of the emotions. Best thriller I’ve read in awhile

- ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️5 star

OMG, what a great book for my first read by Nicole Trope. What an emotional roller coaster this book was!!!One minute I was crying and the next I’m shocked at what’s happening next. I can’t wait until I read another book by her. This book was about a mother struggling to reconnect with her son after his father took him from her for six long years. It was also about the son trying to find his role in a family he hasn’t seen in years. The mother and son go back and forth and neither one know what to expect from each other or how to act and who to trust. I want to start off by saying that I had all the emotions with this book. This book is very real and can happen to anyone who wants or gets a divorce from their controlling spouse. I was so heart broken for the little boy that was put in the middle of this kind of situation and didn’t know what parent to believe and who to trust. I also felt horrible for the mom on what she had to endure with missing all those golden years of her sons life and trying to make up for it. Between the plot, characters and all the emotional twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

- Good read!4 star

Well written book that keeps you on your toes.

- The boy in the photo5 star

I liked the front cover and the book was cheap so I started reading it. I was hooked from the first chapter. As I have just had a baby boy, I found I connected with the characters immediately. Going through a divorce then having my child taken by the one I used to love, just for revenge, is one of my biggest fears. This was a gripping story that kept me wanting more. I was able to predict the ending by the thirty-fifth chapter and it was good to see my fears are the same as someone else. Highly recommend this thrilling page turner.

- What an incredible book5 star

I must say that once I got into the story, I couldn’t stop reading it. The narrative jumps from present to recent past, to past past... I definitely enjoyed it

- Absolutely incredible5 star

This is one of the best books I’ve ever read! It pulls at all the heart strings and as a teacher with a background in trauma, it encapsulates it (trauma) so well.

- The boy in the photo5 star

Absolutely brilliant

- Great book!5 star

I’m a fussy reader but I quite liked the sound of the title, I gave it a go and I was hooked! The book to me was brilliant. Great physiological thriller, I definitely was hooked!

- Excellent5 star

From the minute I read the first page right until the last page I was gripped, Nicole is obviously a fantastic author!! And her way of writing is articulate, sensitive and just outstanding.
