The Last Trial Book Reviews
The Last Trial by Scott Turow Book Summary
Two formidable men collide in this "first-class legal thriller" and New York Times bestseller about a celebrated criminal defense lawyer and the prosecution of his lifelong friend -- a doctor accused of murder (David Baldacci).
At eighty-five years old, Alejandro "Sandy" Stern, a brilliant defense lawyer with his health failing but spirit intact, is on the brink of retirement. But when his old friend Dr. Kiril Pafko, a former Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, is faced with charges of insider trading, fraud, and murder, his entire life's work is put in jeopardy, and Stern decides to take on one last trial.
In a case that will be the defining coda to both men's accomplished lives, Stern probes beneath the surface of his friend's dazzling veneer as a distinguished cancer researcher. As the trial progresses, he will question everything he thought he knew about his friend. Despite Pafko's many failings, is he innocent of the terrible charges laid against him? How far will Stern go to save his friend, and -- no matter the trial's outcome -- will he ever know the truth?
Stern's duty to defend his client and his belief in the power of the judicial system both face a final, terrible test in the courtroom, where the evidence and reality are sometimes worlds apart.
Full of the deep insights into the spaces where the fragility of human nature and the justice system collide, Scott Turow's The Last Trial is a masterful legal thriller that unfolds in page-turning suspense -- and questions how we measure a life.

The Last Trial. Iâve read all of Scottâs books. This is his worst.
Painful. I really enjoyed Mr. Turowâs other books, but this one, sadly, was painful to read.
The Last Trial. Too much courtyard blather, boring page after page of medical technicalities. I skipped a lot, thinking it would get better. It didnât.
Tedious. Not much of a book.
Great Vacation Read. Enough plot to keep my interest and suspense to keep me reading. Great character building and lessons in life choices.
The Lat Trial. 5/5 stars. Realistic detail. Believable plot. Great characters. Intriguing twists. Couldnât put it down! Hal R
Couldnât finish it. I got about 150 pages in by telling myself it would hopefully get better and then I just couldnât do it anymore. Extremely boring and seems to go nowhere the entire time. The way itâs written was not very good at keeping my attention and I often had to re read parts to retain what I was even trading.
Boring, plodding and tedious. Not at all what I expected based on his other novels and the âacclaimâ for this one. Gets slightly better toward the middle, if you can make it that far. Definitely not a compelling or fast passed read. Quite the opposite.
The Last Witness. Brilliant! The story was told through the human elements of the characters. As always, the courtroom and legal process was interesting and realistic. It was poignant to know Sandy Stern in his later years.
the last trial. First book I've read by this author...and will be my last. Took forever to get thru the courtroom scenes. I have to say "Boring". I was so hoping for more.
Well done!. Twisted from the beginning, this author has the ability to tell a story that keeps you in the dark.the culprit will surprise you.
Another Turow Masterpiece!!!. Amazing novel!! Sandy Stern is one of the great character in modern literature. From his introduction in Presumed Innocent to his very intimate story in The Burden Of Proof, he has become an iconic figure in several of Scott Turowâs novels!! This one is no exception! It grabs the reader from the beginning and never lets up!
The Last Trial. Superb writing. Could not put it down...as with all his books.
