superman2534 - Disappointing
Have read and enjoyed all previous Allon books. This was disappointingly subpar, so much so that I struggled to finish it. Villains are undeveloped, they appear suddenly just in time to die. Not sure what happened. As a reader I would be massively interested in younger Allon stories, prequels possibly, as old Allon is losing his excitement. I’m hoping this is a one off for Silva. Everyone has bad days I guess.
kel. grace5678 - Not what I’ve come to expect from Silva
Did it appreciate the anti-Christian tone of this novel. I have read and enjoyed every other book written by Daniel Silva, this will likely be my last.
WEP867 - Disappointed
The Gabriel Allon series has always been a favorite of mine. I have recommended this series to others on numerous occasions. The Order was a terrible disappointment, literally from beginning to end. I am hoping that this was just a one off for Silva.
Minden Jim - Three steps back
Read them all and found this one a bit of a slog, early on, almost quit when pandemic talk was gratuitously dropped in and in and derogatory comments were made about a thinly veiled U. S. President. I if I want to read Silva’s political views, I suggest he write non-fiction and quit diluting a really great series with that crap.
danmatras - Another excellent tale by Mr. Silva
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest addition of the Gabriel Allon saga. Thought provoking and excellent book with a thread for the next book in the saga.
tokee555 - The Order
Stopped reading at page 115. Total claptrap. Very disappointing as his other books were good, but this is weak. Don’t bother.
Camahan - Leftist Garbage
I have bought all the previous novels but this will be my last. I know this guy writes fiction but Ive never seen such leftist revisionist history foisted as current events as i read in this book what total garbage
CeeStor - Interesting, not typical Gabriel Allon book
This was an interesting and seemingly well researched book. It read very much like a nonfiction book. It was definitely NOT similar to the past Gabriel Allon books. In some ways it seems like a farewell, might we see a new character coming from Mr Silva? While I enjoyed parts of it and learned some things, the pacing was slow and I found myself missing what got me hooked on Allon originally: the art restoration and espionage aspects of the novels. Might be time to head back and read some of those again. It wasn’t particularly entertaining, a bit repetitive from some of his other books dealing with the Catholic Church and similar in some ways to Dan Brown novels. So, missed Allon of old.
Anti Drivel - HATE FILLED BOOK
If you are a catholic, start flogging yourself now. According to Mr.
Silva, you are responsible for the death of all Jewish people from the time of Christ, including WWII, the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust. If you are a conservative, you are responsible for all other devastating problems in the world! Pitiful drivel.
Disappointed in Delaware - Jumped the shark
Happy Days was one of the greatest TV shows of its era. It was funny, witty, and featured some fantastic characters. Chief among these the Fonz, the coolest dude in television history. The show enjoyed years of success, one after the other. It was an unprecedented run. And then they went waterskiing, a shark chased the Fonz, and Fonz jumped the shark. That ridiculous scene was enough to prove to the audience that the show was over despite its incredible success.
And now in The Order, Mr. Silva jumps the shark. After nearly two decades of hits, Gabriel Allon has just jumped the shark.
Moses Belle - EXTRAORDINARYand FABULOUS
This is a very gripping story, excellent plot, filled with suspense, thrills and excitement.
This story is very educational and gives a lot of history and insight into the hierarchy ,power and politics of the CATHOLIC PAPACY.
DANIEL SILVA is a MASTER STORYTELLER, HE STANDS SHOULDER TO SHOULDER wITH THE MASTER STORYTELLER, ROBERT LUDLUM.
DwayneAZ - Destroyed what used to be one of my favorite storylines
Went way off the rails with this one with a clear desire to push a political agenda rather than carry on an entertaining storyline. Last book by Silva for me.
hartfl - Disappointing
Have enjoyed the author’s past works but this felt rushed, disjointed and more interested in pushing a political opinion than entertaining. I wish I had not pre-ordered...a sample would have saved me the purchase price.
davehand - Timely, provocative
As always, Silva hits the nail on the head in the most recent installment of the Gabriel Allon franchise. Thought provoking, especially in the context of the world today. Only disappointment is turning the last page! Loved it!
cissib - The Order
This book has taught me NOT to preorder a book just because I loved the authors previous work. Honestly I just can’t finish which is extremely rare for me. It’s not the politics, the Bible, etc. it’s just the same old stuff. I love the character but the author needs to give him something new to do.
slancas199 - Disappointing.
Too much like previous story line. Didn’t care for the politics.
plunderosa - Time to pack it in
I’m a 100 or so pages in. What the heck happened to one of my favorite current authors? What a waste of money. I am totally averse to this whole cancel culture movement but in this instance I’ll make an exception.
dandybobber - Best Yet
This is one of the best books I have ever read. His research is exceptional, very educational, and holds your interest until the very end. I have read all his books and can’t wait for the next one.
Bardobe - Fiction
It’s FICTION, folks. Get a grip.
JR Barron - TRASh IN ALL REGARDS!
I suspect this is his last book. Unable to recover from such despicable writing about the Gospel!
chloe hoover - Don’t waste your money on this one
Daniel Silva has gone off the rails, endless pages of dissecting the gospels, ugh
D.D.gm - Best Ever!!
I’ve read all of his books and this is top 2!!!!!! So much research, facts and historical fiction. Absolutely pure history into a scary religious phenomenon!
LNeff1 - One of his better ones
The Order is one of his better books. Thoroughly enjoyable with both predictable AND a head-scratcher ending (who IS Father Joshua?). Looking forward to hearing more including Fr Donati
Ellebeebee - The Order
I read The Order, growing more and more puzzled with each page, but soldiered on to try to understand what had motivated Mr. Silva to pen this strange offering. By the time that I finished his “Author’s Note,” I was just numb. Can Mr. Silva really believe that all of today’s world-wide anti-Semitic ravings and violence emanates from Christian/Catholic scriptural interpretation of the death of Jesus? Will his next book perhaps explain to us how the Islamic jihadist movement derives from the Gospel of Matthew? No informed moral person can excuse the horrific conduct of the Vatican in WWII, but today’s anti-Semitic fervor doesn’t arise from that source. It also is astonishing that, when asserting the rise of anti-Semitism in the US, Silva lays blame on populism and white nationalism, citing as “proof” the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville (100+/- protestors) and the deranged lone gunman assassin at the Tree of Life Synagogue. Mr. Silva might want to peek out from under the covers to consider the large number of progressive academic groups and programs that have adopted boycotts of Israel and/or announced pro-Palestinian support, to research the increasing threats and attacks on Jewish students involved in Jewish campus organizations, or even to read Bari Weiss’s letter of resignation from the NYTimes, in which she recounts being harassed by her woke colleagues for “writing about the Jews again.” I’ve previously enjoyed Mr. Silva’s work, but now, goodbye.
Carltor - The order
That’s one way to kill off Gabriel Allon to what now used to be a faithful reader....what a waste of time and money...
Nick231979 - Great disappointment
Wish I had not bought as I won’t finish reading Silva’s disappointing book. For years I enjoyed all of Silva’s books and have read many of them multiple times. This book was a far cry from his usual exciting spy books. Silva chooses to question the gospels in the Bible and thus lost me as a reader.
PPJGPJ - The Order, The Best!
This is the best, so far of all the Gabriel Allon novels by Daniel Silva, and all of them have been exceptional. The history interwoven in the exciting plot was fascinating. It makes one want to delve further into the gospel accounts of the life of Jesus. Silva makes his characters come alive in ways few authors are able to do. I can’t wait for the next one.
Artist drake - The Order
Having read all of the Gabriel Allon series I would have to say that this was one of my least favorites. Although the plot line is a good one it gets bogged down in too much religious jargon. The topic is quite relevant to the rise of far right politics in both Europe and the US but the heavy handed religious philosophy displaces important character development. Additionally, I miss insights into Gabriel’s relationship with Chiara and the art world.
GVisgilio - Boo
Not a spy story at all. Totally unlike prior books in the series. A propaganda piece about anti Semitic forces in the Vatican and nonsense about who really condemned Christ.
czar3232 - Wihs I havd saved the money
I really enjoyed all of his books till this one. Not only devisee it is very slow and could not wait to just finish it. Might be time to put this series to rest. Looks like this was just written to fill pages.
Colecade - Do not waste your money!
This was a huge disappointed. Was little more than a condescending political treatise from the left. So much was so wrong.
herzcs - The Order
Very disappointing. I’m a huge fan of the author and Allon series but this book was confusing in its points of view and the characters were flat. Even the author’s encouragement to just read the story for entertainment was disingenuous. Readers of fiction pick up the author’s political and religious opinions, and in this read we are offered tidbits to agree with along the way but just enough to feel manipulated. I’m afraid Silva just lost a loyal reader.
truthseeker1946 - Save your money
What a disappointment! Intellectually dishonest. A waste of time. I could not finish. Elitism at its worse.
Erk31 - Starts slow
The early chapters unusually about current events whereas his other books more timeless. But at the end it makes sense what he objective was with this book.
texasfan2011 - Enjoyed “The Order”
I always enjoy the latest Gabriel Allon book. When combined with the role of Luigi Donati, it was a solid read. Those two characters carried the entire plot with very little support from the team at Office or the bad guys with the Order of Saint Helena. It was a nice change of pace as Allon and Donati are rock solid characters. I’m already looking forward to the next book.
waterdogannie - Disappointing
I have read and enjoyed all of Daniel Silva’s books. Until this one. I just wanted to spend the afternoon with a good book. But before I read 50 pages I was getting beat over the head with his leftist political views. This book is not worth buying.
IWantFacts - Ugh
I wish I had not read it.
PushpushStable - The Order
Simply put, this is another stunning work by an accomplished author. My paltry words of praise aren't adequate..., just read it.
Love2Read233 - Not So Good
I usually am a huge fan of Daniel Silva. I have purchased all his books and have loved every one of them, until now. I thought the plot shallow and beneath the writing skills of a good author. Hopefully the next one will come back to the expectation one has of Mr. Silva’s books.
ErinEli28 - You just can’t do better than Daniel Silva
The Order does not disappoint. If you haven’t tried the Gabriel Allon books yet do yourself a favour and start! Brilliant. All of them.
seraphim92 - “Lost Gospel”
These lost gospels have been discredited ages ago these cane from heretical sects. Just another book that conceals it’s anti-Catholicism
russ kram - The educated truth
Not his best adventure, but historically a very educational and truthful rendition of anti Semitic behavior and why it has occurred
Thor039 - Riveting
One of the best of the Gabriel Allon series. I literally could not put the book down and read it in one day.
Aunt Helly - The Order
Superb - always my favorite July read. I look forward to Silva’s new book every summer and this was thoughtful, engaging, entertaining and interesting, all wrapped up in a great read. Long live the Allons Keep them coming!
The Black Widow - DS - Another Great Gabriel Allon Book!
Another wonderful Gabriel Allon book from Daniel Silva! This 20th book of the series starts with the death of the sitting pope at the Vatican, and some irregularities about the death noticed by the pope’s private secretary. Simultaneously in Israel the wife of Gabriel Allon, head of Israeli intelligence has gone to extraordinary lengths to engineer a vacation with the family for her hard-working husband. Their destination is Venice to visit her parents and spend some time in Italy – her home country and a place where Gabriel lived and worked for years.
In a previous book in the series Gabriel saved the life of the pope and is a good friend of both the pope who has died and his private secretary Luigi Donati. Once Gabriel and his family arrive in Italy, hang onto your hats! Gabriel is drawn into investigating the circumstances surrounding the pope’s death. This trail leads to some very rich and powerful bad guys with a world-changing agenda. The mission is very personal to Gabriel in several ways, so there goes the vacation! Gabriel calls in the team from Israel to help, and we’re off on an adventure as only Daniel Silva can write one. I have to stop reading every now and again because the situation is so edgy it makes me nervous. After a few minutes I’m reading again eager to see what happens next. The answer is a lot, plus a surprise that I didn’t see coming at all!
The book also has a subplot about what Gabriel’s life might look like after he retires. Sounds lovely and calm – why do I doubt that?
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review. That said, I love the book, and have purchased a signed copy for my home library, and also ordered the eBook version.
