Must Read. Great book !

The Book of Lost Names. I loved the story of the forgers who saved so many children during WWII and was engaged by the characters. However the ending was very pat and improbable. Unreal to believe that Eva and Rémy were magically reunited on the steps of the Berlin museum after so much time and loss of life.

Deeply Satisfying Read. This brings the intensity of love and war together and is a deeply emotionally satisfying read.

Hooked. Beautifully written book. Learned about the French town b/c of this book. AND learned about forgers during WW2.

5 stars! In love with this book. Oh. My. God. This book is BEAUTIFUL! If you are a fan of historical fiction, and like books that follow world war 2 strong, brave, women protagonist - then this book would be perfect for you. And while there is lots of heartbreak, there are some glimpses of hope and miracles sprinkled amongst the pages. I love how the author is often giving nods to the fellow book lovers, too. Quite a few of her sentences made me stop to ponder. I don’t normally enjoy reading stories that focus too much on relationships, I did find this one had the perfect amount of romance sprinkled in. I just finished the book with tears in my eyes. While the style of writing is different from “All the Light you Cannot See” book, I would say it’s just as good as that novel had been. (That is one of my favorite books, and this one will be added to a list of favorites, too.) I can’t wait to check out more by this author.

Great book!. This book is so wonderful to fall right into I could not put it down. I love reading stories from WWII, I feel so many emotions when reading stories of heroism during this time. Incredible story and makes me want to go to France. Also a good love story.

Great read!. There are many books describing the atrocities committed at the hands of the Nazis. I would read every single one in the memory of the 6 million lost. This book is gripping and keeps you on the edge to the very end. It makes us pause and reflect on thing we so take for granted in today’s society. We must be grateful for our freedom, something many lost during WWII.

Outstanding. If you've never read any books by Kristin Harmel, now is the time! She is a wonderful author with great stories to tell. The Book of Lost Names is a historical fiction novel, inspired by a true story from WWII. Eva has a talent for forgery, which she uses to help Jewish children escape the Nazi wrath. This book goes back and forth between the past and present, while Eva relives her war time experience from many years ago. I loved reading this beautiful and touching story about a woman's bravery to defeat evil and did not want it to end.

A triumph of a book. Brilliant! I read all day and all evening.

The book of lost names. I wanted to love it but I found the book to be very repetitive with way too much dialogue.

Catchy but with gaps. It’s an interesting story. But it leaves one flat when the story line jumps more than 8 months and with no idea how was to journey in Switzerland. Or if she manages to find any of the kids she saves. Besides it should say based on facts of history. ( the war, the forgery, but that’s the extent of it). But all the rest is fiction. Not really based on a true story.

Good read. A bit overdone in the conflictual negative relationship between Eva and Mamusia. Nonetheless a story that grabs you and gives a helpful experience of WW2 realities in France .

Adolescents will love it.. It is an adolescent’s teens wonderful book

Another home run!. Another home run by Harmel! I could not put this book down. She brings the characters to life in such a dynamic way that makes you root for them, cry with them and want to hug them. The historical perspective woven through the story is intriguing. This one will stay with me for years.

Loved it. The best book I have read since the Nightingale. It was so easy to read. The main character was so relatable, both in present and in past tense. I continue to be in awe how people were treated during World War II. This book is beautiful.

What an unusual and great book. A great historical fiction book based on real facts and events of WWII. Took me a while to get into it but eventually couldn’t put it down.

Beautiful. I could not put this book down! So much heart ache and love is wrapped into this beautifully told story. It is the best book I’ve read in years!

Thoroughly immersing read!. I haven’t used the phrase “engrossed in a book” in years but I said that about this book. I felt completely transported to 1940s France and I could feel all of the emotions described by the main character as if the experience was my own.

Wow!. So, I never write book reviews but I had to for this one! I haven’t been so moved by a book in a long time! Kristin Harmel is such an amazing author and I have read other books by her after finishing this one. Eva is a character you will be cheering on from the start and her journey will really touch you! I finished it in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down! MUST READ!!!

Learning to Survive through Imagination of Books. The history of WW2 needs to be remembered how hate tried to erase a group of people. I can’t fathom having the ability that the characters had to survive. The story that the author used intertwining the young woman with the woman she becomes…. Is spell binding. War changes every one. As I write this review I think of the Ukrainian people are going through a this present time. I watch and pray people on both sides caught in this conflict.

Good love story. The writing felt rushed at times and the story a little jumpy but all in all a good love story though sad at times. It’s not the best book I’ve ever read but I’m happy to have read it. It’s one that will live in my head a for a few days.

Endearing. The best review of a book is never wanting it to end….I’m sad it’s over and better for having read it.
