Promise of Darkness by Bec McMaster Book Summary

Princess. Tribute. Sacrifice. Is she the one prophesied to unite two warring Fae courts? Or the one bound to destroy them?
In a realm ruled by magic, the ruthless Queen of Thorns is determined to destroy her nemesis, the cursed Prince of Evernight.
With war brewing between the bitter enemies, the prince forces Queen Adaia to uphold an ancient treaty: she will send one of her daughters to his court as a political hostage for three months.
The queen insists it’s the perfect opportunity for Princess Iskvien to end the war before it begins. But one look into Thiago’s smoldering eyes and Vi knows she’s no assassin.
The more secrets she uncovers about the prince and his court, the more she begins to question her mother’s motives.
Who is the true enemy? The dark prince who threatens her heart? Or the ruthless queen who will stop at nothing to destroy him?
And when the curse threatens to shatter both courts, is her heart strong enough to break it?

Amazing!. Great read. Loved the hero and the story was romantic but spicy

I couldn’t put it down. Wow what a great story, you get wrapped up into the story in the first chapter. I can’t wait for the second one.

A Promise Of Darkness. Thiago is The King Of Darkness Vi a princess in another court This was a very informative book about The Fae, Seelie and UnSeelie Courts. The hero and heroine were instantly attracted from the beginning with some trust issues. The characters were well developed. This book I truly recommend it is actioned packed, adventure, romance, twists, turns, and emotions. Great Story !!!

Twists and turns. Loved this book. Many twists and turns to keep you turning the page for more. Love, deceit, magic, powers this has it all!

YES!!. I don’t know why this book isn’t talked about more. It is amazing. It is confusing at first in the way the world is structured but over time it all makes sense. It is the perfect mix of romance action and sooo many plot twists! It was the perfect book that I was looking for. Definitely 11/10 recommend!

Blown Away!. I've read other series by Bec, and everything she writes is pure gold! This series is no exception... the adventure is vivid and flowing, and the twists are genius! I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Loved it!. Wow! The books I have been picking up to read lately have been such disappointments so when I started reading this book, I was afraid my disappointment would continue. Fortunately, I was proven wrong and a couple chapters in, I knew I was hooked! First thing I loved about this book was the world building. I’ve read a ton of romance stories involving the fae, Seelie and Unseelie. But this storyline is by far one of the best. Refreshing and different, I really loved the fresh spin on that familiar storyline. I am excited to dive into the rest of the books in the series and reading more from this author.

Curses and love. What a great intriguing story about the fae, unseelie and seelies Good interesting characters. Vi and Thlaglo are a great couple . Good drama, twists, and a great love. Really enjoyed reading.Looking forward to reading the next. Voluntarily reviewed.

A great beginning to a new series. I have devoured McMaster’s other series - vampires, werewolves, dragons, oh my! (all recommended) - but am not a fan of fae stories. Until I read this one. Vi is being sent to Thiago’s court as a “hostage” for the next 3 months. She is basically a pawn between her mother and the Prince of Evernight in a game that they have been playing for years. While there she begins to find out that Thiago isn’t quite what he seems and neither is she. I really enjoyed the slow unfolding of Vi and Thiago’s relationship and how Vi begins to see Thiago and his court as something other than the enemy. She goes from suspicious and prickly to enjoying the people that surround her, including the prince. Vi knows that there are secrets at the court involving the Prince’s wife and she tries to figure out what happened to her but is not truly prepared for the answer. I liked the interactions between all the characters and am looking forward to reading more about them and watching the story play out in the upcoming books. The only problem I had with this book was that it ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, and I don’t like to wait! Especially with a story and characters that I am invested in and want a happy ending for. But I know that with Bec McMaster’s books it’s worth the wait.

True Epic Romantic Fantasy. “There can be only one.” One queen. One heir. It’s how the Kingdom of Asturia operates. “Let’s not pretend I wouldn’t be a threat to you if you left me alive.” ” Iskvien is not the heir but the spare. Her mother bargains Iskvien away to an ally’s kingdom, and Iskvien is given the odious task of assassination. Eww. I know the assassin PNR novels are a thing, but I just don’t want to live in the head of someone so morally bereft. Thankfully, Iskvien is also unwilling to assassinate someone even if it helps her own mother consolidate power. “You’re handing me something sharp?” “It’s less dangerous than your tongue.” She is ostensibly sent to another kingdom as a trade of hostages, the kingdom of Evernight. Left alone for months, with only the head guard, her stay is lonely...at first. Then the betrayals start. When she finally allows herself to take a horse and follow the prince, she finds him dealing with an unseelie. Vi finds out that she has been cursed, that everyone is holding secrets from her, and that the unseelie are targeting her for some reason. What a torrent of secrets and twists! This is an epic fantasy at its finest. The story is satisfying for the hopeless romantic in me, yet Iskvien’s choices lead to a solution that is every bit as difficult as solving the curse she is under. Wow. The world: =========================================================================== These are not wimpy elves. They lie, they scheme, they act like rogues and pirates, but with morals. The scenery is detailed and lovely. What more can I say? =========================================================================== The Romance: =========================================================================== The constant seduction is like a verbal chase-and-capture. Iskvien and the Prince of the kingdom of dreams bargain for kisses like apples at a market. Want another luscious quote? "“you’re like some sort of storm that’s swept into my life and blown me so far off course, I cannot see the shore anymore. Everything has changed. Everything feels like some sort of horribly wonderful dream I’ve found myself trapped in.” =========================================================================== The Theme: =========================================================================== With Iskvien stuck in a time-loop, she is doomed to repeat the same situations over and over again, a process of discovery and a Romeo-and-Juliet feel. Two star-crossed lovers from the opposite sides of the track, and how far they are willing to go for love. But the theme is also one of my favorites. What is in a label? What is an enemy? What is a monster? We are led to question our own biases, which is the framework for democracy and for negotiations. This is deep! ===========================================================================

Awesome book. I am mad that I have not found this book sooner. If you like the Black Jewel series or GOT this book will be right for you! I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on any of the other books in this series
