Dawnshard Book Reviews
Dawnshard by Brandon Sanderson Book Summary
From Brandon Sanderson—author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive and its fourth massive installment, Rhythm of War—comes a new hefty novella, Dawnshard. Taking place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, this tale (like Edgedancer before it) gives often-overshadowed characters their own chance to shine.
When a ghost ship is discovered, its crew presumed dead after trying to reach the storm-shrouded island Akinah, Navani Kholin must send an expedition to make sure the island hasn't fallen into enemy hands. Knights Radiant who fly too near find their Stormlight suddenly drained, so the voyage must be by sea.
Shipowner Rysn Ftori lost the use of her legs but gained the companionship of Chiri-Chiri, a Stormlight-ingesting winged larkin, a species once thought extinct. Now Rysn's pet is ill, and any hope for Chiri-Chiri’s recovery can be found only at the ancestral home of the larkin: Akinah. With the help of Lopen, the formerly one-armed Windrunner, Rysn must accept Navani's quest and sail into the perilous storm from which no one has returned alive. If the crew cannot uncover the secrets of the hidden island city before the wrath of its ancient guardians falls upon them, the fate of Roshar and the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

Genius. The way Brandon continues to weave the Cosmer is mind blowing. I think I’m going to go read Warbraker for the 3rd time. There’s always another secret
Riveting. A short but well developed story, important to the larger story of the series, but well contained into a short story that stands on its own.
Amazing!. Sanderson never ceases to amaze me. He wrote an awesome story, so incredible that I wish it’d have been longer.
See the person, not just their limitations.. 4.97 STARS 🌠🌠🌠🌠🎆 97% rip-roaring adventure, 3% lecturing that is all too necessary (at least in America). Picks up some of the loose threads that were woven into the Interlude stories in a very satisfying way. The social commentary Brandon introduces on the struggle a physically handicapped person has to finally come to grips in their own mind with a new reality...only to find that they now have to deal with everyone else in society! As the parent of a Special Needs kiddo, this struck a raw nerve with me. Brandon is right, society hits you from two sides: 1) they overcompensate, smother you in “Politically Correct” kindness that re-defines people by their limitations and ignores the rest of the person 2) immature, sophomoric bullies find amusement in highlighting or even exacerbating challenges Everyone involved needs to grow up, and I appreciate how Brandon gives an example of that “growth arc” in all the characters on the stage for this episode.
Heck yes!. Amazing as ever! I am counting the days to Rhythm of War!
The Lopen. I just really like the Lopen, I’m glad he was a main character and got his due.
Wonderful!. For a short novel by Brandon Sanderson this one really stands out as a good one.
Bruh momento. Who even reads 🤦♂️.
Dawnshard!. Awesome. Can’t wait for the 17th and the next chapter in the Stormlight Archive.
Must Read. The intrigue of a previous foreshadow is answered and there is still plenty to unfold. Just as well done by Sanderson as the larger Archive books.
Very good!!!. Loved the story, the characters and the wider complication of the story.
Short, sweet and also very juicy. I loved it! Getting to see more of Rysn and watch her character develop was spectacular, along with Lopen, everyone’s favorite. The ending was intense and powerful, with important implications for the series and for the cosmere as a whole. I can’t wait to get started reading Rhythm of War!
Simply fantastic.. This is a really fun read. Feels like a continuation of the last book. The Lopen is as good as ever.
Excellent!. What a great read! Now off to Rhythm of War!!
Loved It!. This was a nice quick fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Lopen is one of my favorite side characters, and it was great getting him for an entire book. I loved the clues and teased bits of info we got for the Aimians. I read Rhythm of War right after, and was doubly amazed by the consistent quality. Great Job Dragonsteel team!
Wonderful. Amazing read. Fun, engaging and perfectly paced. Sanderson at his best!
Another great read. The end of the book comes too quickly. As with all of Brandon Sanderson’s book this is a page turner!
FANTASTIC READ. Brandon Sanderson has once again provided a Novella, that will satisfy that itch you’ve got waiting for his next Book Rhythm of War. Definitely a must for those who are either starting to appreciate or those or already enjoy the fantastical words he has created.
Harmless. I’m not sure either of these novellas are necessary to the overall plot of Stormlight. I liked this one more than Edgedancer but I’m not sure I needed it.

Man this book is so much fun!!!. Adventure, mysterious Island, And whole lot the majestic LOPEN!!
What a book!. Fantastic short story, great read truly gripping from being to end!
Amazing!. Once again another high quality book by the legend Brando Sando!
Another amazing short story. I love Sanderson’s short stories. Always so simple to read, yet an intricate tapestry of character and plot threads that all come together perfectly. This one is no exception and fills in a lot of exciting detail between the two greater works of the Archive. Even without reading the rest of the Archive you will still find this a rewarding read but read the other stuff first if you can.
