A Lucky Child Book Reviews
A Lucky Child by Thomas Buergenthal & Elie Wiesel Book Summary
Thomas Buergenthal, now a Judge in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, tells his astonishing experiences as a young boy in his memoir A Lucky Child. He arrived at Auschwitz at age 10 after surviving two ghettos and a labor camp. Separated first from his mother and then his father, Buergenthal managed by his wits and some remarkable strokes of luck to survive on his own. Almost two years after his liberation, Buergenthal was miraculously reunited with his mother and in 1951 arrived in the U.S. to start a new life.
Now dedicated to helping those subjected to tyranny throughout the world, Buergenthal writes his story with a simple clarity that highlights the stark details of unimaginable hardship. A Lucky Child is a book that demands to be read by all.

Child's point of view. It amazes me the human mind set. Family men and ordinary people who where going to work every day and then going home to their families. But there job was to exterminate people. And this is still occurring today.
A Lucky Child. Excellent reading. Amazing story of the incredible evil witnessed by a child during the Holocaust.
Very compelling. Wonderful book!! You relive his whole life story as if you are by his side right there and then! Whoever told the author people don't want to read about the Holocaust, it's almost all I read! We must never forget!
A Lucky Child. I couldn't put the book down. It started out on a shallow slope and very soon escalated into a vertical free fall. The story of Thomas Buergenthal and his family is one I will not forget. The author stated he survived by shear "luck" but you cannot undermine his incredible determination and wisdom. Thank you Thomas for sharing your story. Sincerely, Beth Orliss
A Lucky Child. After visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau I decided to purchase a few of the books recommended by our tour guide. A Lucky Child was one of them. If you read this book of survival, please add to your list "Hope is the Last to Die." Please remember the victims of the Holocaust and Dr. Buergenthal's quest to stop inhumane treatment. Thank you 'Tommy' for your survival and what you do!
Best Book I Have Read... EVER!. If you have not read this book please read it. I was captured from the first sentence. If you like great books.. This is a read for you! I loved it!
Great Read. I enjoyed reading about this family's struggle to survive Nazi Germany. I doubt that I would have survived. However, this young boy, Lucky Child, and his mother survived against all odds.
A lucky child. Highly recommend, grabbed me right away. I have many friends who complain about their childhood (parents didn't go to their sporting events, parents never supported their dream to be a musician, et cetera, blah, blah, blah) and can't get past their issues with their parents and I want them to read this book to make them realize how lucky they are. Tommy's story will stay with me for years. I wish I could meet him. He is an inspiration.
