An Abundance of Katherines by John Green Book Summary

From the #1 bestselling author of The Fault in Our Stars

Michael L. Printz Honor Book
Los Angeles Times Book Prize Finalist

Katherine V thought boys were gross
Katherine X just wanted to be friends
Katherine XVIII dumped him in an e-mail
K-19 broke his heart
When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type happens to be girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact.

On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun--but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl.
Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

Disappointment. This book was the worst that I have read from John Green. It was very childishly written, it was nearly pointless. I kept reading it hoping that the book was finally going to get good, but it never did.

Great Book!. Yet again John Green has written one of my favorite books! I recommend this to anyone!

AMAZING BOOK!. This book was probably one of the best I have ever read, in my 15 years of living. The first book I read by this author was "Looking for Alaska", which was incredible and I finished in 6 hours. When I finished that book, I went back online and purchased the rest of the books written by John Greene! So far, I have read two, and have not at all been disappointed. If you are a person who likes to think and use logistics, I strongly recommend this book and all of the books written by John Greene!

Not bad. This book was ok but not my "fav" story

It was okay. Pros: no one dies Cons: it didn't hold my interest the way all other John green books did No one dies

I was really disappointed.... John green is my favorite author and I love his books, but this book was disappointing. Almost like it was pointless to write.

funny and well written. another beautifully written book by JG! 👏🏻 definitely was a must read. my only thing that i wasn’t so used to that took a while to adjust to was the footnotes. other then that. incredibly written novel.

Great book. This is by far one of my favorite books! John Green has proven his titles worthy of him with his books. I love (John) Green's vocabulary usage, having smart language and side notes. I also enjoy the overall story, of a person obsessed with Katherines. Great read, I would definitely recommend this one.

Must Read. While it's not my absolute favorite John Green title (That honor belongs to Paper Towns,) it is one of his best works, without a doubt. And although I say that being firmly planted in the ideology that every single John Green book I've read is 'one of his best', I don't feel as though said ideology skews my opinion of this book too terribly much. John Green is a master of writing relatable material with vibrant interesting characters, which is a combination that will make it so you can't put this book down. Throughout the entire book you're deeply interesting in the characters you're meeting; and it feels like you're meeting them, too, rather than reading about them. I couldn't recommend this, and the rest of John Green's books more. It's not a purchase you'll regret. DFTBA!

😍. This is probably one of my favorite books of all time, especially due to the message of mattering in the world. Colin's character evolves quite drastically, and as with all John Green novels I questioned my entire purpose and existence afterwards. I applaud Green for another fantastic novel. DFTBA!

Loved this book but not as well written. I love John Green’s books and have read most of them and they are all incredibly well written but this one felt like it was missing a little piece of the story not in the way of leaving out details (because John Green does leave out details for us to fill in with our imaginations and I love that about his books) but more towards the way the story was portrayed I would like it a lot more if it was in Colin’s point of view or Lindsey or Hassan or maybe even Hollis or TOC’s point of view. The difference between this book in and the rest of John Green’s books is that it has an ending and it ends happy it doesn’t just stop at a sad point and let us imagine the rest (like most of his books do) it stops at a happy point (and let’s us imagine the rest) we can end it the way we want, for example we could make Lindsey and Colin grow up, get married and have 3 kids one of which who has cancer but survives and is happy or we can make it so that TOC wanted Lindsey back but she did not want him back and unfortunately he somehow found out about Gutshot Textiles so blackmailed Lindsey to break up with Colin but Lindsey refused and TOC kept his promise so the whole town knew and quit making the company and town collapse.

Amazing. It was funny an a amazing book.

Suggest you buy!. This book was my favorite behind Looking for Alaska by John Green. Every book of his has good humor and storylines. I suggest you buy this book along with others by him!

AMAZING. this was the best book i have ever read, i finished reading this and immediately restarted the book. I will always love john green, and the book he has created.

Love this book. I love this book it is so jokes nerd fighters ftw

AnAbundanceOfKatherines. Omg this book is amazing! It has so many twists and turns, and unexpected events, and always the comic relief. It's a great book, and I'm just as obsessed with this book as I am with any other John Green book. AMAZINGGG

Perfect. Third Green book I've read and I'm still in love with his style (currently I'm downloading Finding Alaska). Abundance of Katherine's-funny and good old fashion qwerkery. I love the hilarious footnotes in this book and I like how Green chose to be third person narrator in Colin's corner. Really adds to the dynamic. You really do fall in love with (and some absolutely loath) the characters in this one. Also, I was able to keep up with the references; not always true in Fault Of Our Stars. I feel that I was meant to stumble upon Green's books, especially this one. I relate (as I'm sure many younger adults do) with Colin and wanting to leave their mark and matter on this planet. This book puts my mind at ease and I honestly feel more content with my future. Please read this book if you're in need of a hardy laugh sprinkled with a little love and nourishment for the soul.

good but disappointing. it was a good book...but i feel like it was missing something. after reading Looking For Alaska (which i absolutely fell in love with), i had really high expectations for an abundance of katherines. i like the plot and the concept but the ending could have been better written and i wasn’t super engrossed in the book. i did really like the characters (hassan and lindsay mainly) and the footnotes were cool and original. the book was really funny but slightly anticlimactic. i don’t regret reading it though. i do recommend y’all to read it, but don’t set TOO high expectations. 7.5/10

Better than I expected. At first, I did not think that this book was going to be very meaningful (from reading just the summary), but boy, was I wrong. An abundance of Katherines was a great book with terrific characters. It was also really funny and kept me smiling throughout. I am looking forward to reading more John Green. Read this, you won't be disappointed!

I LOVE THIS BOOK. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I love to read, but it usually takes me a while to finish a book, but John Green had me hooked on and I had pounded out the book within 2 days. I would highly recommend it.

Nerdfighters ftw. This is one of John Green's best... I loved the characters and the underlying message of mattering... Nerdfighters!!! Best wishes!

Phenomenal Novel. For once, someone has accurately and tastefully portrayed the mental workings of an eccentric teenager. It's absolutely impossible to put down, what with its quick-paced and gripping storyline, filled with plot twists that I'm pretty even John Green didn't anticipate. Regardless of who you are, there is at least one character with whom you will be able to identify. I cannot praise this book enough.

Not my favorite. John Green is my favorite author but I didn't enjoy this book. I only got half way through it and stopped. Just something about I didn't like. It just wasn't as good as Looking For Alaska or Fault In Our Stars.

Another Great Work from John. Not quite as good as Looking for Alaska in my opinion, but still a quite impressive read. John Green has done it once again with his army of Nerdfighters right behind him.

Reaalllly good book. This is the fourth John green novel that I read-and he does not disappoint! I loved this book, it made me laugh out loud nonstop. DFTBA!

Point of view. The book was interesting but I didn't like the second person point of view. I would have liked it more if it was told by Colin or maybe all of the characters at different points in the book...

Great with flaws. I loved the book I just thought John Green should have extended the ending into more detail but otherwise it was great!!!!!!😍😍😍

A bad buy good book. This book is 3.99 in paperback. Don't ware you're money here. Just go buy it. Good book though. John green ftw.

Not as well written. I love John Green’s Fault In Our Stars while this book was less interesting. Sometimes it made you lose interest. It never made me feel like on the edge of a cliffhanger, which was one thing I enjoyed about the Fault In Our Stars. Still a very good book but would not recommend it as much as The Fault In Our Stars

For the most part, GREAT!. This book was slow in the beginning but picked up. The plot was predictable for the most part. However I finished this book in two nights so it keeps you reading. Like I said for the most part it's great and I would recommend it.

Yes yes yes yes yes. Okay, we'll, I just finished this book, and I am incredibly giddy. It was amazing and cute and nerdy and sweet and unbelievably amazing. This would be the perfect summer road trip read. It was different from John Green's other books, less heart-wrenching and emotional (at least for me), so don't go in expecting that type of stuff. Don't get me wrong, its still metaphor-filled and character-driven and everything, just... Different. Also there are math formulas and graphs and footnotes, but do not let that intimidate you. I am not a particularly smart person, really, and sure, some of the child-prodigy stuff completely flew over my head, yet I really, really enjoyed it. I know a lot of people who've hated it tough... Just saying. It's probably not right for everyone, but it was just what I needed.

Could not put it down!. I started the book with no expectations - just hoping for an entertaining book to read on a camping trip. I laughed aloud at many points and enjoyed the book thoroughly. If you're looking for a fun, quirky book, you'll enjoy it immensely.
