Evokes such a spectrum of emotions.. Difficult to put this story down was you start! Allende has such an amazing way of interweaving stories of love, terror, sadness, longing, and spirituality. Be sure to try her short story collection, Stories of Eva Luna as well. I feel affected by sorrow and hope after reading this. My only complaint would be that I wanted to know more of the stories, more information about each of the lives she presented. Yet, it's the depth which she can maintain in such a succinct way that makes her tales so poignant and accessible to readers coming from many different perspectives.

Island beneath the sea. This is one f the best written stories I have read in a long time.I have read some of her other stories. However, by far this one was the best in my opinion. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves a great storyteller.

Good. Well it's ok - good but i am a big fan. My fav would be city of the beast.

Island Beneath the Sea. Enjoyed reading about the history of the time. The story flowed until the end, where I became tired of the story line of the two half siblings. But I was compelled to finish reading. Was glad for a lighter ending.

Island BeneathThe Sea. A compelling read. Allende weaves the story in an interesting and intricate fashion. Each person is his own and what follows is a look into a family with all the intrigue and skeletons that would make a voyeur salivate.

Enjoyable to read. Read this for a book club, and I was skeptical at first, but came to love it. It is an excellent work of historical fiction, focusing on the French colonies in the Antilles, which would become Haïti. The plot takes a little time to grip the reader (if they don't have background in Haïtian history) but it is very realistic and pretty close to the historical timeline. It was well worth the time and money to read. Not perfect, but good nonetheless.

I loved this book!. It entertained me. It gave me a good look, I suspect, at life in Haiti and Cuba and old New Orleans. Better than anything, it delved deeply into the characters, with all the real and magical fiction that isabel Allende writes. I loved it. I was sorry when it ended. That’s the best test. Not the silly comments of professional book reviewers.

It's not her bet novel. Simply it's not her best novel. At times even boring. Book ending also didn't leave anything on me.

The Island below transcends loss and finds joy. Mystical and complex expertly sewn together is the tragic yet inspiring story of a woman of spirit and strength, who against all odds persists through slavery, abuse, humiliation and loss to find and lift up beauty, joy and goodness in her life and those lives she touches with wisdom and healing hands as she strives to protect her children from the harsh reality of slavery and oppression. She is transcendent!

Beautiful!. She did it again, isabel allende is a master novalist. American and caribbean history through the eyes of Zarite, a family history, a love story and the history of mankind.

Amazing!!. I loved it!!

I love it!. After The House of the Spiritis this one is my favorite novel of this incredible writer. Isabel Allende is without a doubt my favorite author.

Island Beneath the Sea. Excellent book. As usual Isabel Allende writes in a very readable style and I read this book with interest, amusement and amazement! How does she do it! Historically it is very good and readably, excellent! I must also tell the readers that this is the 3rd book I have read on my iPad and I love it! Now I can take 20 books away with me and they won't fill my suitcase!

Beautiful Story Telling. In her trademark prose Isabelle takes us into the lives of slaves and plantation owners in the former French colony of Haiti. At times disturbing in its raw description of cruelty and inhuman suffering, it's enchanting and hopeful, erotic and philosophical, and political as much as a mirror on the human soul that allowed atrocities like slavery to exist for as long as it did. Spelbinding!

Wonderful work. I think this maybe my favorite alleged novel since house of the spirits. FANTASTIC read

Loved It!. I loved this novel! I didn't want to stop reading after the 3rd chapter. Tete was a beautiful character. Being of Haitian descent I enjoyed all of the historical background. The only problem I had was how slow the first couple of chapters were. I put the book down a number of times because it was hard to start. I also wish that Rosset's character was developed a bit more. With this said, I still loved this epic novel!

Love it!. I absolutely loved this book. I could not let it down and when did I happen to be dwelling it. I have Also read house of spirits also a great book. I definitely recommend this book.

Best ever. Great book with a lot of knowledge 5 stars
