Beyond Band of Brothers by Dick Winters & Cole C. Kingseed Book Summary

“Tells the tales left untold by Stephen Ambrose, whose Band of Brothers was the inspiration for the HBO miniseries...laced with Winters’s soldierly exaltations of pride in his comrades’ bravery.”—Publishers Weekly

Look for the Band of Brothers miniseries, now available to stream on Netflix!

They were called Easy Company—but their mission was never easy. Immortalized as the Band of Brothers, they suffered 150% casualties while liberating Europe—an unparalleled record of bravery under fire. Winner of the Distinguished Service Cross, Dick Winters was their legendary commander. This is his story—told in his own words for the first time.

On D-Day, Winters assumed leadership of the Band of Brothers when its commander was killed and led them through the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany—by which time each member had been wounded. Based on Winters’s wartime diary, Beyond Band of Brothers also includes his comrades’ untold stories. Virtually none of this material appeared in Stephen Ambrose’s Band of Brothers. Neither a protest against nor a glamorization of war, this is a moving memoir by the man who earned the love and respect of the men of Easy Company—and who is a hero to new generations worldwide.

Beyond band of brothers. Awesome read!

Great. A Great companion to Band of Brothers. Gives more personal insight to what Ambrose so wonderfully depicted in Band of Brothers. It is also a fantastic insight into the mentality of what a great leader is.

Biggest respect for this generation. Thank you! That is all I can say. I have so much respect for the military, especially the generation of my grandfather. I feel by reading ww1 & 2 books, I feel like the values, integrity and bravery are shouting at me. It feels like my granddad is reading captain winters' words to me. I'm 33, and I know that I will likely never be able to ever live up to what these men did during the war. Thank you gentlemen! May your legacy live on forever in my heart!!

Fantastic Book. A True Gift. Major Dick Winters is someone I look to greatly as an example, rather a goal to become. As a fan of the book and tv series Band of Brothers, this book compliments them, gives greater detail to the loose ends, and it is written by Major Winters himself which is freakin awesome. The book sort of gives the reader an opportunity to pick at his brain. Though he is not here physically, his book is a great gift to those who want to learn from one of the 20th century's greatest leaders. I encourage you to highlight and note anything interesting you find being about the war, the men of Easy, and or leadership anecdotes that can be found in every page. Leadership is discussed greatly in the last chapter but the application is best noted in the preceding pages, so read the whole thing and not be a tool and skip to the end. The book, like many if it's kind, is a journey, a glimpse into what men and women of our military deal with. Though we may not fully understand, those of us not veterans, it is so important that we try to grasp the sacrifice soldiers have given for our freedom. Thank you, Major Winters for this great gift to future generations.

Great read.. One of the best books I have ever read.

Great book by a great American hero. The telling of his story outside the hype of the movie and book about Easy Company really make one appreciate the sacrifices of his generation. For anyone who liked Band Of Brothers will love this one

A great American’s story of leadership in war. Paratrooper Dick Winters wrote this following the publishing of Band of Brothers. If you saw the HBO miniseries as you read this you’ll see the words visualized in your mind - it’s obvious the best get part of that miniseries is based more on this book than the more famous Band of Brothers. Both are excellent but this one feels more personal. And here we get a glimpse of Winters’ thoughts on leadership too. It’s a great read. Highly recommended. I wish I could thank him for his service. To any veterans reading this I thank you for your service.

Amazing. I am a great fan of the series band of brothers, however to read words written by such a hero is inspiring. The humble way it is told is something most people could not do today, in this world where everyone is looking for fame for things that don't really matter. I know that it is not just easy company that won the war, but the stories of the men that worked together, and held on to a friendship through unbearable experiences helps the regular person relate to such heroes. I am a Canadian, and I live in the USA, but I thank both sides for their part in creating a place where we have choice and liberty, and we must live a full life for those who gave it all for us. I loved the book and the personal in sites offered, my only complaint is that in the ebook there were no photos.

Farewell To All. Thank you to ALL, the Band of Brothers I wish I had been born in 1922, rather then 1952 to have possibly had the opportunity to have been one of your Band of Brothers. Sgt Pameticky US Army 1971-1978, son of SSgt Francis Neil Pameticky US Army 1928-1955, 30 ID, 120th

No photos. Digital edition does not contain photos that are part of print edition. Excellent book/reading. Gave it two stars for missing photos

Beyond band of brothers. I have both read the book and seen the mini series on hbo. Until I read the book it hadn't really sunk in just how much the men of easy company suffered but always got it done....would be an honor just to shake your hand Mr. Winters.

Great study of ordinary people who did great things.. I wish all of my history classes could read and my sports teams could understand the amount of practice and dedication went into being "THE BEST".

60mm HE. A must read for any Band of Brothers fan. It's interesting to read about these events from a more personal perspective and hear stories that weren't told in Ambrose' book. I can say the same thing about Malarkey's book.

This man was a great leader.. All true men of courage should be molded after Major Dick Winters. Wish I had had the opportunity to me him. Rest easy Sir.

Great book. Amazing book. Amazing individual

Great read. As a fan of the mini series I wanted to know more about the men of easy co while the book reiterates much of what is seen in the show it is refreshing to hear (more accurately, read) it from the man himself and as with everything in his life he does not disappoint. RIP Richard Winters.
