Settling the Account. I picked up "Sentence of Marriage" and read straight through "Mud and Gold" and "Settling the Account" - non stop. I haven't done that with a author in 20 years or so. The characters became so real to me I couldn't bear to not know what happened next. I did find, though, that the number of children and the speed in which they came was confusing. It seemed that the children grew up faster than the parents aged / or not. Especially Amy. I didn't make a time line but I am sure her age is not right in several places. One of Lizzie's children is born after a 3 year break, but all the other children did not seem to get older in a corresponding way.... In the end this does not have a major disruption to the true story. An excellent saga from beginning to end.

Promises to Keep Trilogy. A captivating saga of historical life, love, sorrow, and forgiveness. Reading this will give you pause to reflect and feed your soul.

Settling the Account. I absolutely love the Promises to Keep series! I look forward to more late nights of reading as I continue with Amy's story in A Second Chance. I do hope the series will continue.

Sentence of marriage and sequels. Fabulous series set in New Zealand over 100 years ago. I couldn't put it down. Very realistic, with historical facts about the time period. Absolutely fascinating and highly recommended.

Promises Series. An engaging, sweet-hearted time period piece which caught and kept my attention throughout. The characters were well developed and the personalities were diverse and consistent to themselves. What a pleasure to involve myself in their lives and histories. Thank you for the lovely resolution for Amy and Ann. Perhaps Lizzie could have enjoyed Amy's celebration. (I'd have LOVED to learn of Susannah's reaction to find the 'cast-off' child to be so learned too, but THAT is my own issuešŸ˜‰). Many thanks to the author for her good story outline and development. A pleasure to have read tis series.

Amyā€™s Retribution. A lot of authors temp their readers into a series by offering the first book for free. This series was one such as that. I almost never continue, and I didnā€™t for a year or so, but the first book in this series kept niggling at me and I kept thinking about Amy and wondering how she got on. So finally I thought, ā€œThis is ridiculous, if youā€™re still thinking about this character you obviously want to read the next book. Just buy it!ā€ So I did. I devoured the second story and didnā€™t even think two minutes about buying the third. It was very satisfying for Amy to finally have some peace and closure in her life, but although you could see certain things coming you werenā€™t sure how they would happen. Just bought the sequel. I want to continue with the adventure.

Addictive!!!! Get ALL 3 Books!. Loved each book more! Great stories and loyal families...

Had to read them all!. Interesting, heartwarming. Would make a great television series.

Settling the Account. What a trilogy. Loved every character.

Outstanding. Finally finished. I couldn't stop reading....I had to get to the end. Best three. Books I've read in awhile. Was definitely a page turner. Loved this author and lived her stories. A must read !!

Readable and Troubling. I read all three books although the amount of domestic abuse she writes of was harrowing. Iā€™m not sure why she made it such a theme of this story.

Promises to keep book 3. A most enjoyable book, full of joy and anguish, New Zealand life in the latter part of the nineteenth century and a splendid follow on from the previous two books;I couldnā€™t stop reading to find out what happened next! Quite a lot of different characters to absorb but by the end I had them all worked out, Canā€™t wait to read the final book!Caroline McShane

Sentence of Marriage. Wow, couldnā€™t put this book down and promptly bought the next two of the series. Wonderful characters, and great descriptions of the life and times. Felt I was there. Could a fourth novel be squeezed out. Perhaps to see how Amy got on after meeting her daughter. What about the scoundrel James?

AWESOME SERIES. This is honestly one of the most amazing series I've read in a long time. It's different from the hunger games and what is normally around these days. It had something that felt more real. It had a story line I could easily connect and sympathise with. I cried along with the characters as well as sharing their laughter. I'm quite sad now that I've finished reading them, but will definitely be re-reading them in the near future. Final summary: I LOVED it!!!!! (And would love to see more of the same kind of work)

Great story. Love this series, it's well written and the characters seem so real, an absolute joy to read. Amy is never far from my thoughts it's so lifelike.

A beautiful trilogy of time, love, challenge and triumph. Thank you Shayne Parkinson. You have captured all that is good, tough, bad and wonderful about life, in Amy and her family x

Settling the Account. This was a wonderful story of such a difficult hardworking era, a captivating reminder of how basic life was in the late 1800's and early 1900's. how life has changed for both women and men today over 100 years later.

Amazing. The first book broke my heart but I kept reading, I had to see how things turned out. I glad I did, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all three books in this series.

All consuming read. What a series of books!!!!! Couldn't put them down. In one way I am sorry to have finished them but at least I might get some work done now.

Thank you. I really enjoyed the three book series. They were all very rich characters and really tugged at your heart strings.

Sentence of Marriage. I just loved the whole series, I couldn't put the books down. I found that they were very exciting and never dull. I hope you write more series, as they are very enjoyable, and never dull. Well done

Settling the account. This was well written and I enjoyed every page.

Settling the account. These series just keep getting better and better once again thank you please keep writing

Great read. Best book I have read in awhile!!

Loved this series. Fabulous read

Excellent. I have read the entire collection from Mud and Gold to Daisy's War. I thoroughly enjoyed them all and can not wait for the next one.... Which I'm hoping there is a continuation! Tess

Sentence of Marriage Series. I can't praise these books enough. They have occupied my every thought through the day and dream at night. I even read them during a wedding reception! I just couldn't get enough. I'm so upset to have come to the end. Well done Shayne, you deserve great literary fame. Find yourself a good agent who will market your books deservedly and turn them in to a television series. :)

Historical novels are a treat. I read the trilogy back to back over a period of two weeks.. My first impression was that these books would have been better classified as "Romance" novels. Well written and descriptive of the period but lacking in many details that would have clarified the pictures of the life style and daily activities the author tried to create. An interior sketch of the homes, a layout of the farm house and outbuildings. A map of the rural farm area and its proximity to the sea. All or any of these would have helped the story. A good yarn but only scratched the surface. I'm sure others will love it but I'm not holding my breath waiting for her next book.not now, at any rate.

Shocked. The first 2 books were enjoyable, but this one was nothing, but page after page of garbled inanity. For some unfathomable reason the author had changed the subjects into ridiculous, petty, nonsensical shadows of themselves.

Can't wait to read the next one!!!. I just realized that there is one more book in this series, and can't wait to start it. I love the characters in her books, how they are not 100% bad or good. The characters are so well written, it's as if I know them. I wish there was less graphic details when it comes to how Amy was treated by men. But overall, I was happy with how little immorality or bad language was in these books. I find it difficult to find books that aren't full of swearing these days. The reviews I left for these three books in the series are the first I have ever left in iBooks. I made the time to do so because I feel that these books are a treasure, and reasonably priced. I hope others find these books too, and that the author keeps writing! :-)

Promises kept. Great series! The author has the special talent of making her characters very real. Amy and Lizzie will stay with me for a while.

Sentence of Marriage. Couldnā€™t put it down. Then bought the second and now the third in the series. Excellent, well written stories.

Sentence to marriage. Best book ever !!

Promises to Keep. Books 1 - 3. Shayne Parkinson drew me into a fascinating period in New Zealand. If I had been presented with a dry history, I might not have read beyond the first page. The protagonist in the story is Amy Leith. Amy's experiences drew me in and never let go. Following her life gave me a lot of insight into conditions that women experienced before suffrage and how many things changed over the period of Amy's life. I think this is a brilliant depiction of the time and the social barriers that women faced. The characters are wonderfully real and I could not help but to sympathize with the challenges that they faced. It is a little bit daunting to realize that we have not made as many strides as one would expect since that time.
