Empire (In Her Name, Book 4) by Michael R. Hicks Book Summary

Empire is the first book of the In Her Name: Redemption trilogy, and is the coming-of-age story of Reza Gard, a young boy of the Human Confederation who is swept up in the century-long war against the alien Kreelan Empire. Nightmarish female warriors with blue skin, fangs, and razor sharp talons, the Kreelans have technology that is millennia beyond that of the Confederation, yet they seek out close combat with sword and claw, fighting and dying to honor their god-like Empress.

Captured and enslaved, Reza must live like his enemies in a grand experiment to see if humans have souls, and if one may be the key to unlocking an ages old curse upon the Kreelan race. Enduring the brutal conditions of Kreelan life, Reza and a young warrior named Esah-Zhurah find themselves bound together by fate and a prophecy foretold millennia before they were born.

In Her Name : Empire. Very few books actually have the ability to make you feel what the characters feel. This one did. Wonderful story. Thank you ...S. King

Amazing. Great read. Kept me hooked from start to finish. Definitely getting the rest of the books in the series.

Epic is right. Within the first chapter I was and literally could not put it down. Within a couple weeks I had finished the whole series. Can't say enough good things about about this epic---- but then again that's why he's the author and I'm not

Empire. This is a riveting novel from start to finish. From the loss experienced by a young Reza, to the new love found and sacrificed as is the way. I can't wait to read the remaining novels in this trilogy.

In Her Name - Empire. I don't read very much , but I couldn't sit this book down. That's such an exhilarating feeling. Can't wait to read the trilogy. Thank you so. Judy Bugs

Careful, he's a captivating writer. One of the best reads ever!. Read the first trilogy and then the second. Am waiting impatiently for the last book 'Dead Soul'. Each book is complete and stands on it's own, but you want to know more about worlds and characters created.

Empire. The book is good and a little out there. I enjoyed reading about Reza and his struggle to maintain his humanity. I am not sure about the ending. It is very quick and I would have liked more drama in the separation. Other readers will have to read the entire book to understand...

Great Read. Really enjoyed the book. Kept me totally interested and got better and better as it went on. Can't wait to read the next one!

Couldn't put it down!. I've been dragging my feet about entering the ebook era. This is the first ebook I've read & what a way to start! I was hooked from the beginning & found myself reading into the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't put it down.

Empire (in her name). Excellent read.

Breathtaking. Just an overall amazing tale that i couldn't put down, i usually only read a few chapters a day but i read this whole book in 1 day just page turning surprise. Only regret was when it ended

Do what you have to do to survive. Tired of plot twists to sell more books He should of stayed Better chance of saving humans if he stayed No dishonor in questioning the orders of a crazy beach / living god Someone else mentioned the end was too quick. Killing humans because they have no soul. Continuing because they are a threat ???

Loved the 3 book series!!!. Read them back to back...couldn't put it down!!! Great books!

In Her Name: Empire. Read this! You will want more! I really enjoyed the level of story, it has enough depth, but not complicated.

A lead off Homerun. Great start to the trilogy. I couldn't put it down.

Worth WAY more than 99 cents!. Well, this book was a great find! It's a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy. The storyline for this first book of the trilogy is kind of like The Last Samurai, where the boy protagonist is taken away to a foreign land to train in their ways. If you play Bioware games, then I can describe the alien race in the book as a blend of the Asari (all-female, blue alien race) and the Qunari (in their inexorable way of life and recognition of purpose). Or you can think of them as the female half of the Avatar people...in any case, the alien culture is very well fleshed out, if a bit anthropomorphic despite the author's clear efforts to avoid it. Some emotional scenes felt a bit awkward and forced, but otherwise the author is great at descriptive as well as dialogue writing. The book has a couple of typos here and there ("complimenting" instead of "complementing"), but not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the book even though I am a bit of a grammar nazi. I'm buying the three books separately rather than the omnibus edition because it's 1 cent cheaper this way (:p) but the main reason is I don't like the omnibus edition's cover.

5 Stars!!. I could not put it down! Awesome read.

A great read. It's been a while since I've read something that made me count down the minutes until work was over so I could run home and read. Empire's intriguing storyline and believable characters made me do just that. Reza was relatable almost instantly, and it was clear that he was going to be a joy to read after his first face to face encounter with the Kreelan. Even the aliens are believable characters, and feel less 'alien' over time, although there is always a weirdness to them to remind readers that they are far from human. It's possible to be both intruiged and disgusted by their culture in the span of a few sentences, and they are never anything short of fascinating. I won't spoil anything about the story itself, but I will say that this was a very entertaining Sci-Fi read. I would highly recommend this book for fans of both Sci-Fi and fantasy, as the author does a wonderful job blending together elements of both genres. An excellent start to a series, and a great place to start for those unsure about science fiction.

Great science fiction - and it's a free read!. Good first book, had difficulty putting it down and plan to read the the next book in the series. Well written, good character development.

Beautiful. This book as amazing!! It's beautifully written and the characters are evolved. I loved it and turned every page in excitement! would recommend it to any and all fantasy lovers or even if it's your first fantasy book!!! Well done Hicks you have the Talent. Brilliant

Write more. A fantastic set of trilogies. A must read, could not put these books down. The writing puts you right in the thick of the action, great scenes of war with twists and turns at every chapter. Well done Michael, more please

In her name. It has been a long time since I read a series of books that were so awesome. It is very true that it was almost impossible to put the books down and it was a pleasure to read them from the beginning all over again. It is a shame that the series have ended. Maybe Mr Hicks can find it in his heart to continue somehow with few more In Her Name books and tell the story of the life of the Empress and Reza, hopefully, maybe Mr. Hicks.

A Good Read. A good read seeing as its free :) to be quite honest i would pay to read this book.

Wow!. I loved it. Lots of twists in the plot, and I appreciate the clean language.

Fantastic. Couldn’t put it down. Amazing book.

Worthwhile. I found this book enjoyable, engaging and very creative. The (admittedly strange) romance was also pleasant.

In Her Name. Very good book, story kept me glued to The book till my eyes were sore Thanks Bob
