Fourth time reading. I have read and re-read this book many times over the years and it only gets better each time. Truly a masterful story told by a true master of high fantasy!

What a fantastic read!. I had only just started reading high fantasy novels but this one takes the cake! Robert Jordan’s world building is unlike any other. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

A definite must read. The wheel of time series are some of the best books ever written. Spanning two decades most people who read these have grown with the books over the years, making them a part of their lives. Enjoy!

Wonderful. 100% fantastic fantasy!

Great story. I loved reading this book, so exciting and unpredictable!

Almost Great. Fantastic yarn in the spirit of Lord of the rings. But the many "had had's" and "that that's" we're distracting. Also, the authors attempt at grandiose speech made things so complicated at important times it ruined the story. I have no interest in reading book two.

Great book. Great story ready to read the next book!

Exceptional to the last page. One of the best fantasy books! Could not put it down. Excited for the rest of the series.

Great book series worth reading for sure!!!. Classic!!!

Epic Fantasy. Read this book something 15 years ago, then reread recently after being blown away by the Amazon Prime show. It really is an epic saga, I think I appreciate it even more now than in my teens.

One of the greats. This series is one of the great classics of fantasy. Many people talk about Tolkien, and George R. R. Martin, but to me Robert Jordan is the best fantasist. While there are some similarities to Lord of the Rings, this is to me a perfected version of the LOTR good vs evil trope. Particularly for those who like magic/power systems, this is a true classic. I recommend this series to everyone. It forever occupies a special position on my bookshelves.

Let’s Go!!!!!!. Epic series, couldn’t put it down. Ready for book two.

A Masterpiece. Truly some of the finest literature of this age. The earth is a little darker, now that he's passed from us. Thankfully, his writing provide a steady glow. Worth a first read and a second.

Amazing!. My review cannot describe how good this book is, so I'm not even going to try. Just read it!

Thrilling Fantasy Adventure. Be prepared to lose sleep

Superb!. This is my second time reading this book and I have enjoyed it as much if not more so than the first time I read it. I find it difficult to put down some days as I am on the edge of my seat to read what happens next even though I have read up to book 11 in the past.

Best fantasy series ever. The characters and writing are superb. I only wish Robert Jordan had lived to see his last book in print.

Awesome. If you are a fan of fantasy it is important for you to immerse yourself in this world Jordan has created. So awesome!

Fantastic. Gets better with every read through!

Superb. I read this book a few time as a child and a young man but this is the first time I have read it as an adult. Robert Jordan will forever be my favorite author. Such vivid imagery and depth. He was taken from us too soon and the world is a little darker without him.

Great. Great Book

hard to complain. the book was wonderful, now for my point. a slow start and dragged out detail had me a bit worried but Jordan soon had my interest and only left room for one critique, could your mountain range naming scheme be any more generic. the mountains of Dhoom and the mountains of mist… kinda broke the suspense at just the wrong moment. that is all.

Epic Tale. Told with gentleness, rich in detail and enough exciting bits to keep you interested. I liked it and going on to the next one…

Awesome read. I read this book when it first came out in 1990. Picked it up again since Prime Video is making a series. I wanted to be able to judge if they did it justice. Now I remember why I couldn’t wait every year for the next book to be published. I enjoyed this read even more than the first time. Guess I will be reading the other 12 books now as well.

Improperly formatted. The zoom function does not work, it will simply remove sections of the book instead of adding pages for the zoomed text.

Starts slow. And I mean slowwww I have tried getting into this daunting series for maybe 5 years—it never seemed to hold my attention— if only I would have made to chapter 4 or 5 Before now. Don’t do what I did, stick with it till at least chapter 6 and see if you can go a day without checking in.

My favorite series ever. I've been reading scifi and fantasy novels for over twenty years, and out of the hundreds of books I've read, this is still the best. Book one starts slow, but once it gains momentum it will have you running the gambit of emotions. One moment you will be angry and sad, and the next, you will find yourself standing up to cheer the characters forward. The depth and originality of Robert Jordan's world is on par with Tolkien, Asimov, and Frank Herbert. He creates a completely new style of magic, and challenges the protagonists with never before seen monsters that could have come right out of nightmares. The antagonists are deeply fleshed out, with their own personalities and goals that don't always coincide with each other. I look forward to reading it again for the first time, when the age that gave it birth returns again.

Best fantasy series of all time.. No contest - The Wheel of Time is the best of the best in the epic fantasy genre.

Well written. The descriptions were strong and balanced. The dialogue shows a lot of thoughtful ideation. The story is truly epic.

Good but slow. I liked the chars and story but way too slow and too much details for my taste

First time read, recommended. First time reading the book, without any prior knowledge of the series. It was engaging, had adventure, fun, world building, and character development enough to keep me interested until the end. As with many stories involving clear cut good versus evil universes, the ultimate ending seems preordained, but I will happily continue reading the series and see if how I am surprised. Many questions left unanswered and as seeing this series went from being a planned trilogy to ending as a whole bookshelf, I understand that will be normal. Definitely recommend if you like LOTR.

Awesome. The first book starts out a bit dull but after u get used to the author's writing style u will be hooked. Loved it.

Good, not perfect. The story was good, but the characters lacked something and Egwene and Nynaeve weren’t stunningly written. In my opinion Nynaeve was super annoying and overly childish. I enjoyed the story but at times it seemed to drone on. Like with Mat and Rand against the dark alone in the villages on their way to Caemlyn, it just went on and on. I am a little excited though for what the rest of this world might bring, I hope it isn’t lackluster.

Read this series. It’s worth it!

Must Read for High Fantasy fans but some complaints. Just finished the book for the first time, and the world the Jordan has created is massive with tons of lore and unique, interesting characters. Although it’s not a critique on the book, there’s so much knowledge that I had a hard time wrapping my head around everything. However, I like the world so much that I’m not opposed to rereading it after I get further into the series. Most of the book is told from one characters perspective so some of the supporting casts character development was left out. The pacing can be a jarring to the point where it gets confusing as to how much time passes, and I feel like I’m missing some of the gradual character growth that could be there considering the length of the book.

Amazing series to read. Ive read this series 4 times now and am going for a fifth amazing read and especially good detail wish you were still around jordan you were amazing

Great Book. All encompassing read. I could not put it down. Extremely well-written.

Do not read.. It's a horrible book, and a horrible series. The author is obviously trying to make a "Lord of the rings" rip off, and he's milking for all it's worth. There are 12 books in this series, and I had to force myself to finish the first chapter. The characters are bland, the dialogue is poorly written, and the story is just a carbon clone of every fantasy book ever written. Do not read. If I could give less than 1 star, I would.

The Eye of the World- unoriginal and unappealing. The supposedly fantastic Wheel of Time cycle by Robert Jordan is, in fact, a disappointing, unoriginal series, mirroring the plot of Lord of the Rings and introducing nothing memorable to the literary world. For those who say it is reminiscent of J. R. R. Tolkien’s masterpiece, they would be partially right, as The Wheel of Time copies characters, plot, and creatures from its pages. The characters are forgettable and one-dimensional. The main character, Rand al’Thor, is a childish, pathetic young man who is portrayed in the novel as a hero- Robert Jordan must share Rand’s delusions of glory. The villain and his minions are unoriginal- The Dark One (possibly the most forgettable name possible for a villain) is a parody of Satan in Christian mythology, and bears extreme resemblance to Sauron from Lord of the Rings. The trollocs are nothing but orcs given a new, ridiculous name. The myrddraal are Nazgûl, and entirely unintimidating. This book has none of the enlightened air of Tolkien’s masterwork, and yet assumes it has the right to copy its plot and characters. An offense to the fantasy genre and carelessly written, The Eye of the World and the rest of The Wheel of Time series should be avoided. Although this is not the appropriate place to issue this warning, the television series based off the novels is just as much of a bore and waste of time, although the story is even more disconnected and unappealing than the book. If you are in desperate need of a new fantasy novel to read, I would suggest such books as The Witcher, The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, or many others. Do not force yourself to read this atrocity.

A slog fest of unoriginality. People talk so highly of this series and then you find out you need to give it 5 books until it picks up. The series might be great but this book was incredibly boring and felt like a mirror clone of the lord of the rings. Predictable yet confusing. I’ll watch the series for this one and spend my time on books/series that as a whole are worth it

lives up the hype. was recommended this by a good friend of mine after finishing Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive and Mistborn series. The immense level of detail was astounding but at the same time was a bit overwhelming and made some sections seem unnecessary but i am glad i powered through bc it was totally worth it. starting book 2 now!

The Eye of the World. Kind of expensive for the story you get. This is the first time Ive ever read Robert Jordan, (2019) and it is definitely dated. The plot starts out very slowly and only has glimpses of good story telling, in addition the writing can be very confusing and unclear Overall I wish I had purchased another book. But on the other hand I read the entire thing, and also read the next book in the series. Can definitely say the next book has a similar story line, so can’t recommend that either

One of the best epic fantasy series ever. Might even top Game of Thrones and LoTR; it’s hard to believe I discovered it so late. I just finished the series and wow - incredible. Reading it all again immediately. 😍

A journey to be remembered. Robert Jordan paints a beautiful portrait in our minds that stirs our very soul. This is the first book in a series that will define epic fantasy at it's very core!! Don't take our word for read it.

Incredible book, more greatness to come. I have read dozens of other authors, listened to hundreds of hours of fantasy books, read thousands upon thousands of pages. None have gripped me like this book has. Nothing I have ever encountered compares to the scope and scale of this world. The history and lore is rich from the very beginning, the characters have very real motivations and flaws, and there is a fair bit of mystery and intrigue among the heroes of this tale. There isn’t a single character I don’t like, even the least-explored person feels like a solid addition to the story. Unfortunately, the book did start off a little slow, with difficult, often folksy, patterns of speech that tripped me up for the first ten or so chapters. That didn’t stop me from reading and enjoying them, but it did take some getting used to. Once you get familiar with the strange words, names and phrases there is nothing to stop you except your own desire to progress. I cannot wait to read the following books. 5 stars, would definitely recommend.

Wow. Just a warning- you will lose several months to this series:) there are many long books and you won't want to set them down.... My only complaint is that the author who is finishing the story isn't as incredible as the legendary Robert Jordan (very hard to surpass:) ) I can't WAIT to finish the series this March... ENGROSSING!!!!

It gets better. I ended up putting this book down for about a year after being bored by the first several chapters. I picked it up again and forced myself to read a bit further since so many people like it. Once the characters got started on their quest in earnest, I really started to enjoy it. I'm glad I gave it a second chance!

This Series Belongs to Me, in life or death. I love this!!!! Blood and ashes! If I had less homework I would have finished the series by now!! Are they going to make a movie? I hope so!

Great world building, okay characters, simplistic plot. I landed on this series after reading two of Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives books (which I enjoyed a lot). Sanderson completed the Wheel of Time series (of which this is the original volume, though there is a prequel) after Jordan passed away. The story is a fairly straightforward "fantasy quest" à la "Lord of the Rings". The overall writing is more than competent and the world descriptions are excellent. The character development is okay: We only "get into the head" of one character (the protagonist) and while he is not quite a caricature, I think his development lacks depth. The other characters are unfortunately quite shallowly developed (in my opinion). The plot felt far too simple to me. The villains' efforts are never quite justified and feel incompetent. The plot line is a straight line (with a tiny exception). There are no real surprises, and while there is a hint of darkness about the protagonist, it's never made credible. So far, there is no real sense of "rules of magic", which makes the introduction of fantasy elements feel a bit "ad hoc". Still, it's entertaining enough that I'll give the next volume a chance.

Book to TV. Love the book. Love all the books. My fourth time now reading the series. Such a disgrace how Amazon has butchered the wheel of time series. They could have learnt from MTV shannara chronicles, but nope. If you can’t keep to the story, you should not bother with making it into a show. Everyone I know who has not read the books but watched the show, can’t finish the series. Too cofusing.

The start of an Epic. Awesome novel to start a journey into an epic series. I've reread the story a hundred times and I still get blown away by the events each time. I highly recommend this series to anyone who would like a good fantasy story which rivals if not exceeds the lord of the rings trilogy ( even without having a movie of its own).

Unreal story telling ability.. I have always loved the lord of the rings series, the hobbit, books my Brian Jacques, and the Narnia series... but this was something different and fresh all together. Robert Jordan has created a wonderful new world full of excitement and wonder. I am very excited to read the next book and the rest of this series.

Written for people under 15. This first book is somewhat readable. I am now on book 6 and wished I had never started reading the series. It IS an engaging story, and I will finish the series because I would like to know how the story ends. With that said, there are large chunks of the books I simply skip or skim through because Jordan's writing is so full of useless information and long winded overly repeated notions. The adult characters act like 10 year olds when it comes to relationships and sexuality. It gets very tedious. If you are a veteran fantasy reader steer clear, or possibly buy the books for your young teens to read.

Wow!. I have been reading this series since 1990 and have re-read it many times. It is a compelling series with great characters and a fantastic storyline. Once you get into the book you will not regret it.

Epic. One of the best fantasy books i ever read

Surprisingly original. I found this book and series by doing a web search for epics like Lord of the Rings. I am so glad I found it. Admittedly the first time I saw "Trolloc" I suspected an unoriginal, rip-off of Tolkien. I was thrilled to discover the opposite. If you are a fan of Tolkien but want more (and there is no more), I recommend you pick up this book and start enjoying. It's immersive and heavily engaging, and as I say in my subject heading, original. There are thousands of pages left for me to read and I can't wait to turn the next one.

Great fantasy read!. It's hard for me to find time to read for pleasure, but I kept reading this book every chance I got. At first, the story seems very reminiscent of Tolkien's fellowship, with an unlikely hero being dragged into a journey when he'd rather stay at home, with a wizard-like companion to guide him on his way and the fate of the world at stake. But the story distinguishes with a unique world and intrigue, holding back information and keeping the reader turning pages just to learn how the protagonist will fit into it all. Getting to know the characters is a lot of fun, too. I started book 2 the moment I finished this one, and another dozen or so in the series will keep me busy for a while to come. I also highly recommend the audiobook. The narrator does a great job bringing the story to life.

One of the best!!. Worth your while to read. I think game of thrones is a watered down version of this story.

Read the series but..... This is one of the most complex and entertaining series ever written. You become very attached to the characters and feel their pain and joy. However, I was so very disappointed by the ending. Without giving too much away I will explain. The final battle is long and becomes repetitive and really got boring. I realize that's the point, it's supposed to be long but not at the cost of boring the reader so much they skip ahead. At the end it's wrapped up so quickly and gives you little satisfaction over the characters you became so fond of. Read the series but know that the ending could have been so much better....I wonder if Jordan would have done it right.
