On Learning the Craft of Writing. Good very good first book to read on writing storys. From a master story teller, you get the basics to good writing. This is a book one should ponder to get the most out of it.

Good advice. At first I was like, is this a memoir or an instruction, a little of both and very well done!

Larry Harrell. A revolutionary eye opener surly to entrance all generations whether interested in becoming an author/novelist or just a KING fan wanting to feel the presence of their favorite writer.

Great book loved it. Such an amazing person

Smashing. Enough said

Love it. I love this book and can’t wait to read it again!

Boring. Starts with an autobiography with little tidbits. Towards the middle of the book is where “real” writing instruction happens, which is very generous to begin with. Best advice he’s given is to simply read a lot and write a lot.

For the Lover of the Craft. It doesn't matter so much if you're even a fan of King's magnum opus, if you want real advice, quality advice that you can apply to your own literary pursuits, you've found your book. It's one of those rare gems that surreptitiously teaches you far more than you could ever realize you're actually learning because you're so busy being wildly entertained. 'On Writing' is worth reading, if for no other reason, simply for its wealth of King's personal essays; pieces of nonfiction so funny, so poignant, so deeply moving that I was left wishing King would take the time to publish a memoir or two. It's that good. Really, it is.

Excellent. I read this book for a final essay assignment, and I had so much to highlight. The stories at the beginning were well told and lighthearted, and the seamless segway into the this and that of writing made the topic that much more interesting. King is an excellent writer, and the way he wrote and explained writing, filling the book with stories, and funny comments of his, it was almost as though the book was one of those can’t put it down books. Highly recommend.

On writing. The biographical parts including post accident were interesting and enjoyable. The advice on writing not as much, unless you are perhaps a late adolescent boy hoping to follow in this master cranker's footsteps. And he is a master cranker. More power to him. For what it was it was overpriced too

How Stephen King Writes. King describes how he writes, and begins by giving some background into his life, which is an interesting way to start. The best parts of the book are the stories King tells. He’s a great storyteller. I was less interested in his observations about the writing process. Like many successful writers it’s hard for him to remember his general principles may be things that work for him but may not work for others nor may necessarily be useful ways to think about being g a writer.

The Science & The Art. Stephen King wrote a book for aspiring and struggling writers but I believe he managed something larger. A book that is as much about the symbiotic relationship between a well lived life and settled work, as it is about writing. The key being that when you design your life to support positive habit building, you will create the space to hone your craft of choice, which naturally feeds satisfaction back into life. To serve writers, he delivers blunt guidance that demystifies the lore of what makes a successful writer. One of the most important bubbles he pops is the idea that creative output comes to us like some violent gust of wind. Inspiration that is supposed to consume you and carry you all the way to some brilliant novel. King distills the real effort down to a craftsperson, discipline, and a toolbox. On top of all of that he shares his life journey in away that is refreshing. This approach underscores how are lives shape us and subsequently what we write about. It’s not just about writing what we know but also leaning into your history to give your work more authenticity. An honesty that the reader will appreciate. Whether you’re a King fan or not, this is a great read about following passions and making a life.

The Craft. This book is great for aspiring writers and those who want to know a bit more about Stephen King. As an aspiring writer myself, I found a lot of information in this book quite useful. The information I’ve soaked up will no doubt help me in my writing journey. On Writing is a valuable tool for writers and I highly recommend it.

Great Book. Excellent book for any author looking to get started writing... and stay writing.

An amazing read. I have to admit, I thought this book would be quite bland, but it was actually quite satisfying.

Generous. That's the word that comes to mind. That is, Stephen King did not have to write this book; it's evident throughout that he did it out of the kindness of his heart, in an effort to truly GIVE BACK to his fans and aspiring writers. For that I'm truly grateful. I took advantage of his generosity and latched onto and analyzed every word, especially the many words intended to motivate, enable, and inspire aspiring writers. Stephen is not only a great teacher, he is a very grateful and inspiring human being who loves his craft passionately, and is brutally honest about what it takes to succeed in the field. I honestly don't know how he could have made this book any better. It is perfect. Thank you, Mr. King.

Needs some attention!. This is a great book, but the cover is for gone with the wind. Fix!

Any Key to King's Writing Mind Is a Gift. Perhaps Stephen King does not do his best describing how he writes to all, but his true gift is storytelling in any sense. For the reviewer who knows him only by his horror tales, he also writes amazing fictional stories that are not scary, nor would they be categorized as "horror" novels. These are probably my favorite, although they do contain some "bizarre" or unexplainable type things - but that is what makes them so appealing. Yet, they are never forgotten for their depth and wisdom. King is a genius with an amazing mind that unravels on paper.

Enjoyable read and helpful!. I found myself smiling as I turned the pages and was pleasantly surprised by all of the interesting personal stories. Helpful writing tips, common sense and humor... This book was my first iBooks/iPad purchase and worth every penny! :)

Invite Stephen over for some tea and listen for a while. If you’d like to have Stephen King come over and tell you several engaging story about his life and learn some great tips on the process of writing, this is the book!

A brilliant read for any writer!. Fantastic! That is all.

A Great Read. Many people always ask the same questions about King, where do you get your ideas? And etc... In On Writing there is a look into the mind of Stephen King, his life, his work, and best of all his thoughts on writing. Anyone who likes his books should read this book. Aspiring writers should also read this. All in all a great read.

Conversational, engaging and motivating. Stephen King wants to connect with his Constant Reader and he does. I even became emotional in his telling of his accident occurring when he decided to finish writing this book. It’s admirable that he sees writing as his compass and he’s true to himself. His ability to place his finger precisely upon common threads makes his style approachable to writers.

Emulating the master. This book is an intimate conversation with Stephen King about how he writes. It is jammed with useful advice on how to avoid writing a boring novel. King admonishes the budding novelist to read and write profusely, as hard work is the only path to success. I have used this handbook to in my grade 12 English Literature class - it keeps us grounded. It is easy to both read and understand and could also be used for a junior level class.

Inspiring the practical. Stephen King writes yet another book that I cannot put down, albeit this one does not haunt me at night, and the morning after I finish the book. However, it is just as powerful, and as memorable as many of his other best sellers. King offers advice on how to write well from the perspective of a popular author. It is both practical and inspirational. Candid, and straight forward, On Writing speaks to the hearts of many aspiring writers, by drawing on the author's own experiences. A must read!
