My Favorite novel. I love the Story of Scarlett and Rhett! This novel gave me a better understanding of life in the South during the Civil War! I can relate to Scarlett’s determination and attitude!

Awesome!. I loved this book so much! It was captivating and thrilling. The end was so unexpected making it even better!

Classic realistic but romantic.. I saw this movie when I was only 10 years old and it has always been my favorite. This is only my second reading of this book and it still carries me to an era that you feel you are living in. The realities of the time are correct and the feelings real, something every student should read. My love for this book is past down to my daughter who I am reading this to a little at a time. We read her book then I read this and she is enamored with it. She is 6 and that should tell you something about the authors ability to draw you in as if you are living it with the characters. There is no doubt in my mind that Scarlet is someone I can identify with on some. Level.

Really good. This is a really good book, as a person from Louisiana I know how it is to have all that southern pride in your blood. Not that I support slavery or racism, but I like how the author shows how southerners back then we’re brought up to believe. Scarlett is the most shallow conceited vain person ever and yet somehow you want things to work out for her. I honestly think the best thing that happens to her in the book is Rhett because he helps her say screw how people want me to behave I’m going to be my vain conceited self! You go Scarlett. I really hate how much she ignores wade but oh well. It is a really great novel. Definitely suggest it as a month or two long slow read. Don’t force yourself through it, just take it slow and read it when you want, it’s definitely better that way.

A book that will make you think about our history and where we are now. As a northerner, we are educated to accept certain truths of the pre, during, and post Civil War South. This book allows the reader to try to understand the motives of the south and what drove them to succeed and what drives them now to hold on to their personal history. Gone With The Wind gives everyone the opportunity to be empathetic of a people who saw the world In a way that...is incomprehensible to most. Amazing book. Amazing writing. Never once bored.

A classic. When I first read this book, I prolonged my reading experience over the course of a few months because I was enjoying it so much. I sincerely believe that this book is the number one American classic. The storyline is historically accurate and the characters are brilliantly developed. It does however have a very disagreeable main character. Scarlett O’Hara is selfish, vain, predictable, shallow, and somehow endearing. She is the person you love to hate and yet sometimes root for. This book is a great read, and a definite gem.

My Favorite Book of All Time. I read this book the first time in sixth grade- and I'm so thankful I did. It saddens me that the majority of my generation rejects classics like this, and opts out for meaningless books that a lot of teens read today. They don't make books like this anymore. It's so captivating start to finish, that it's difficult to put the book down. And even when you manage to put it down, you can't focus because it's all you think about. This book is an all-consuming, wonderful gem.

Swept me away !!!. My cousin pleaded with me for over 3 years to read this book....and all I can say is I was swept away. An epic novel of epic proportions !!! A must read for anyone who says they like to read...

Gone With the Wind. A great use of fiction to tell a historic tale. You'll get an interesting story with some history mixed in.

Haven't read it yet. Might read it though...heard it's good

GWTW great novel but author misses. My mother has always been very fond of the book and of course of the very famous Hollywood movie. She told me that the first time she , her sister and her mom went to the movies to watch it , she believed to be the greatest story ever told. She thought Vivien Leigh was the most beautiful woman in the whole world. Months after watching the movie (this was in 1959 , my mom was 16 years old) she borrowed Margaret Mitchell's novel from the local library and fell in love with it. Until today it is her favorite movie and book (this one tied with "Pride and Prejudice"). Overall, it is a great and powerful story about human sacrifices and overcoming insurmountable hurdles and terrible losses, and in the end it is in fact a love story, nothing more than that, much different from what the author said when she was asked what her book was about when published in 1936. Mitchell said that she wrote about strong people that survived through war and who don't , she called this "gumption". People with gumption went through ok, people ill equipped , without gumption did not. In my humble opinion, I found this story annoying and sometimes disturbing , laced with incredible rants if racism. Ashley character is simply ridiculous, reading the book you sort of have a feeling that he is in fact has the "hots" for Scarlet never very clear , very subtle. Only in the last chapter did you this confirmation. In the movie it was very clear, not even in the end. I was appalled at the incredible amount of racism in the book. Of course one thing is not to be carried away with what a character says , but you can imply throughout the whole book in many instances that much of those opinions was shared by the author. One among many, is that the slaves were treated with dignity by their plantation masters and that the slaves were better off as slaves than as "free n....ers". Depicting the dirty Yankees as an occupying army that stumped their boots in the honorable and respectable gentlemen of the old South is a description that is not only is outrageously wrong, lacks tremendously of historical evidence. One of the characters (Scarlet's mom) says the they have to treat the inferiors as if they were children, thus they don't the difference between right and wrong. My God , where does that come from? This stupid woman just got one step closer to admitting and justifying slavery as a just cause worth fighting for and ultimately dying for. Pure bull.... The main cause of the war was economical, pure and simple, 90 percent of the South economy was based on cotton thanks to a new invention (the cotton gin). Growing and harvesting cotton was only economically viable with very cheap labour, the same struggles we face today with manufacturing today in America. In Brazil, plantations also grew cotton and owned slaves, so the South knew that they could not compete with Brazil without slaves, it was already a global economy back then. Instead of the author counter balance the historical facts with the fictional story, she clutched to the fiction till the end no matter what. If she could have said that the South had won the war I think she would have done it. In terms of political, moral and historical terms the book is very poor in its descriptions, very poor and wrong. The love story itself , it is a great story. Scarlet O'Hara is one the greatest heroines in literature. Although sometimes I thought the characters changing their attitudes quite a lot . Rhett Butler is one of them, sometimes he is a Scallawag , an Yankee lover, a Carpetbagger , other times he changes his mind to back up the old order with the flimsiest of reasons, joining the Confederate army almost at the end of war, never made any sense, clearly the author needed to make the character go away, because he could not go to Tara with Scarlet , otherwise she would never have have gone through all her predicaments that she ultimately did. So, going to war was the only way out for the author to make Scarlet find herself at Tara without the pirate Rhett. Some other times I found the story quite repetitive and boring. Characters are not as complex as characters in "Pride and Prejudice", not even remotely close, but when you take a broader look and observe from afar, you notice that the story encompasses other great characters that jump on and off page. There are incredible chapters that really captures the readers attention in a gripping edge-of-seat situation, the siege of Atlanta, the escape of Scarlett and Melanie during Sherman's pounding and incursion, the hunger and destitution at Tara, now they belong to the ages...

Question. Was this book read in the movie "the outsiders"

Tomorrow is another day.. It’s been so many months since I started reading Gone With The Wind that I don’t remember what my preconceptions were, what I hoped to gain by reading it, or what I expected to find. But needless to say, whatever my expectations, they were exceeded by a degree higher than I thought possible. For all its faults and deserved criticisms, Gone With The Wind is assuredly a masterpiece. Calling the people in this book “characters” feels disingenuous. The landscapes and scenes are so vivid that it takes me a moment to remember that these memories are not my own. More passages moved me to laughter, love, anger, introspection, and tears than I can count. It was an intimate and beautiful experience, and I am tempted to consider it the greatest work of art across any medium that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I will surely read it again, and carry it with me to the end of my days. I am deeply grateful to Mrs. Mitchell for the work she poured into this story. It has left me inspired beyond words.

All Time Favorite!. I never tire of reading Gone With the Wind. I've read it countless times and it is by far my favorite book, and I assure you I've read a lot of books!

Great!. Well written. Very vivid. Personalities are well written. Buy it.

Nice!. Nice book I can really picture the scenes very descriptive!

Gone all right. This book was a great story about when black people were a little better than slaves and about a womans obsession with a married man. It's also about human emotions that are brought out well. Scarlett is a self absorbed nasty lady who is too much for almost everyone to be around. The war seemed too have eaten her morals up. It's a great read, long but worth it! Buy this one, you will not be disappointed!

The best book I have ever read. Hello This might surprise you but I am 10 years old and this book was a hard book to read for two main reasons one was a little bit voice it was so long but mainly because this book really hit home for me because I live in Georgia and for that matter I live in Atlanta so this book was pretty hard for me to read of the many many hard ships that faced Scarlett and her family and it was so upsetting to me when I read that Scarlett's mother had died. Many people think that she go what she deserved but I disagree I think that she did not deserve being abandoned because think about it like this ok you have made a good bit of mist mistakes but do you deserve to be abandoned by a subtly every one that you love and by every one who loved you (by the way I am talking about Rhett) I think not but over all this was a wonderful book and it was money well spent And while I have you here I need to say something to say about the negative comments well you probably could care less what I think but honestly I think that is is rude and hateful and say things like that I mean what if you had spent you time (from 1927 to 1934 to be exact) on this book then sat down to see what people thought and she had seen the hateful things that you people said do you think that she would be very happy and joyful I think not but what do you care that's the thing you people don't give a thought to thought to the proper that have to read the crap you put on there and be like a child for instance we children are not allowed to cuss so there for no matter how badly we want to say something rude and ugly we reframe from doing. I am not saying that you would not say that you did not like book then say it but Rembrandt that there is someone who has to read the massage rather it is the wrighter or the family but still some one gad to and is going to read it

THE Great American Novel. I first read this book in high school and after finishing did not realize just how much the book had impacted me. Until I was compelled to read it again. And again. And again. I've lost count but I think I've read it 6 times by now. And I don't reread many books. People miss the main theme of this book so much, though. Yes, it is an interesting account of the Civil War and the culture of the Old South. Sure, there's an interesting enough love story thrown in there as well. People want to talk controversy ("It romanticizes slavery! How awful!"), but what this book is ultimately about is overcoming obstacles. And not just little obstacles. Scarlett has to reckon with the entire destruction and subsequent reconstruction of her entire civilization and way of life. She loses nearly all of what she holds most dear and struggles to keep what she can. This book is about resilience in the face of one's worst conceivable nightmare. It's the end of the world as the South--and Scarlett--knows it. But tomorrow is another day.

Captivating. Couldn't put the book down.

Gone with the wind. Took me nearly a week to finish, but a fabulous read. Definitely my favorite book ever.

Amazing. Amazing novel. Simply wonderful. The realistic hardships of the characters were captivating and enthralling. Two huge issues (of course there are other smaller ones) are: 1: An enormous amount of racism. The actors had continuously stated that the slaves were better off as slaves and that their owners somehow deserved to own them. They also stated that the blacks couldn't tell right from wrong and that they should've been left with their owners. Um, excuse me? That is completely incorrect. It was said because the free slaves were acting out and drinking, but nothing was said about the white men who had been doing that forever. The slaves were put into the mindset that their owners did have supreme power over them, only because the hardships they faced being free were worse than when they where on the plantation, which reinforced the white plantation owners' idea that they completely deserved to hold power over black people. Completely disgusting. There's more, but you can read the book to find out more about it. 2: Scarlett (the protagonist) was thoroughly exasperating and just downright infuriating. She was spoiled, rude, mean, and annoying, but most of the time I couldn't completely hate her because she stood up for her right to do what she wants to do despite her gender. She was a spoiled daddy's girl in the beginning, a rich (still spoiled) widow and neglectful mother, a harsh and cruel house owner, a traitorous friend, a cheating wife, a neglectful mother again,a widow again, an oblivious idiot, a stupid cheater, a mother again (not neglectful this time), an extremely bad and obtuse wife, and in the end, just a sad girl. She thoroughly irritated me throughout the story with her obsession with money and disregard for how she treated people. At moments I had to put the book down and stop reading because of how upset with her I was. Really, she grew up too fast in the beginning of the story, and turned into a petulant child in her mid-twenties throughout the other half of the book. I was completely done with her character and wanted to slap some sense into her head. She needed to get her act together and stop acting like a five year old having a tantrum and acting like a gaudy and tacky woman showing off in front of the less fortunate. Overall though, this was a thoroughly wonderful story that kept me reading for hours, sometimes even days (during a break) at a time. I finished it in less than a week, surprising myself with the speed in which I finished this book. If the author would have revised the historical accuracy of this novel, removed some of the racism, and tried to put any kind of redeeming or good traits into Scarlett's character, this book would be the perfect story, although it's still a 5-star novel at the moment. Everyone needs to read this book (especially girls) at some point in their lives.

Best book ever. To this day, this book remains my favorite of all time. Although I re-read it several times a year, I remain nostalgic for the the first time I read the book. ENJOY!

Gone With Wind. Third time I have read this book. I have loved it every time.

A Southern Treasure. This is a book that, in all probability, could no longer be taught in school-- a sign of our politically correct times. And indeed, for a person of color, the narrative might be too painful. I can't speak to that. But I do know that for me, the book shines light on something precious that I grew up with and loved with all my heart -- the ineffable soul of the Old South. Read "Gone With the Wind" and be transported beyond the Hollywood version to a more complete view of wonderful characters in a time, place, and set of circumstances that defined a generation. Ultimately, what happened during and after our country's great civil conflict set forth the political and social dynamics we see today and will continue to see for generations to come.

Captivating!. I've seen the movie numerous times in different languages in different countries but reading the novel was a totally different experience. Margaret Mitchell revealed the strength and the courage of the Confederacy's women during and after the war against the backdrop of the ill-fated relationship between Scarlett and Rhett. Jason Levi

Captivating!. I really, really enjoyed reading this historical fiction. I also learned a lot about American civil war.

Gone with the Wind. Great story. You get a novel, but you also get an understanding of the Civil War period.

Gone With The Wind. A classic that I never tire of reading. Scarlett is a character that woman fantasize being, beautiful, strong, a survivor, and lives without care of what others think.

A Southern Classic. This is a book every Southerner should read! The time, characters, places are described in such a detailed way, a reader can picture being there with Scarlett. Sometimes you feel bad for Scarlett, and other times you want to shake some sense into her. This is a fantastic read!

Incredible Masterpiece. Could be the best book I ever read.

Loved it!. I wish I wasn't done reading this book. Simply heartbreaking.

Gone With The Wind. My heart is full after finally reading "Gone With The Wind". A big fan of the movie my whole life, now I get it!!!
