Sudden Death. The worst book ever!!!

Sudden Death. Met Michael in, of all places, in a cigar lounge in Maple Shade, NJ called the Smoking Dog a couple of weeks ago. Just finished his first book. Really enjoyed it since I am an avid reader and part-time golfer. The flow of the book was great. Am looking forward to his other books as they are published. Thanks for sharing Mike!

Sudden Death!. Very easy and entertainingn read! I enjoyed it from cover to cover.

Amazing!!!!. I absolutely loved this book. It kept me guessing from the beginning. I highly recommend this book. And I will be reading the sequel as well.

Sudden death. I never played golf but this writer made it so interesting to read! I enjoyed every minute of the book. I am 71 year young and a Woman that will now read what ever he writes from here on out. Thank you

Sudden Death. Great book.

Sudden death. This book should die a sudden death.

sudden Death. Great story and very well written. Lori S in TX

Horrible!. Don't waste your time with this one. I had to struggle to get through about 100 pages. Characters are flat and predictable. This story reads like it was written by a 13 year old with an over-active imagination.

Sudden Death. I enjoyed reading this book very much even though I am not a golfer! It was written in such a way that you could visualize the experiences, the panic, and the developing love story.

Sudden death. Very good book easy read

Sudden Death. I very much enjoyed this novel. I originally decided to read it because of the Patterson endorsement , one of my favorites. However, I was impressed. The basic story, the writing, the use of 'just enough' to keep my interest. Can't wait to read the follow up.

Sudden Death. A total waste of time doesnt deserve even 1 star

Sudden Death. This book moved fast, had multiple layers of plot and was extremely entertaining. Thank you for the wonderful learning experience about golf too!

Sudden Death. Excellent. Hard to put down. The author understands the mentality of the professional golfer and the game of golf. The characters are all believable including the security people. Heartily recommenced.

Sudden death. Awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sudden Death. A very well written book. It kept my interest the whole way through. The author was very knowledgeable in his detail on the game of golf. I would recommend and will read his books. Robert L. Justus Author of Rare Blood Sect & Thought Control.

Amateur Hour. Weak plot, weaker writing & the guy doesn't even know golf terminology. Save your money.

I must admit.... I did not read to the end. Poorly drawn characters, inconsistent point of view, unrealistic dialog, and the author's inability to distinguish his views from the main character's had me alternately sighing from impatience and rolling my eyes. It h

Sudden Death. Despite the heavy weight author endorsements, the novel is pretty bad. The book read like a successful athlete's itinerary or agenda for the week. It had no twists, no turns, no cleaver angles...not even one. Really, just a total waste of time.

Sudden Death. The mystery is how this author thought this was a mystery. This was a tripple bogie...cliche after cliche and the author even self congratulated himself on his deMilleisms. Keep this one in the bag.

Wow!. I couldn't put this book down. Finished it in two days and want more.

Duffer. Was a bit different than what I expected after the first few pages . Good guessing games for sure .Enjoyable.

Dead ball. Great story line. Easy read. Could not put book down

Sudden Death not worth the time. Boring. Too much focus on being just a golf story and not enough developing the mystery.

Sudden Death. AWFUL!! Poorly written, how was it ever published?

Not a hole in one. First, I give kudos to anyone who writes a novel. But this one, Sudden Death, is dead on arrival. Trite characters, high-schoolish smarmy relationships. I was ready to toss in the towel after reading about 20%, but it was so awful I wanted to see how much slower and longer before the storyline got better. My expectation was that it wouldn't get better. By 50% it exceeded my expectations and I got a morbid fascination of how much worse it could get. Again, I wasn't disappointed. The entire story was a silly romance novel. If you're looking for a romance novel, this one is for you.

Painful!!!!. This book was by far the hardest book I have ever read. So many unnecessary details. And in the end the climax was a complete let down. Unless you really love golf this is not one I recommend.

Sudden Death. Suspense on the Tee box, fairways, and greens. Could not put it down until the last putt was hit

Sudden Death. My Dad had a "hole in one" so I had to read this. I enjoyed the characters. It was well written. Kept me interested. I did get tired of all the details of each hole played and skipped some of it. I wondered if the golfers go thru all that preparation for a game. I won't read another sports story.

Sudden Death. Very boring. Like reading in monotone! Was very disappointed given that the book was endorsed by Patterson and Cussler, two of my favorite authors.

Very good read. I'll be looking for next book.

Worst book ever. This may very well be the worst book I have ever read. The characters are wooden, the dialogue is stilted and the language is at a ninth grade level. Plus, the plot is boring and predictable. Don't waste your time or money.

Sudden Death. First time reading this author. LOVED IT!! Don't get a lot of time to read but the next one will be the sequel to Sudden Death. Easy, smooth read. Thanks!

Sudden Death. There are some areas of slowness for the play to catch up but all in all was a good book. Might help if someone understands golf and what happens on the circuit

Sudden Death. Explosive mystery. Never read a golf fiction intertwined with a terrorist type plot. Will definitely read DEAD BALL. Being an Syracuse grad also , it had to be a winner!

Awesome book. I don't play golf. Actually think its a silly game lol. Loved this book! Couldn't put it down and highly recommend it.

Well done Mr. Balkin. Exciting and fast moving just like life on the tour. Great story line with sub plots equally interesting. Great "Reid"

Improbable characters and action. I've never written a novel, and I have no doubt that it's difficult indeed to write a good one. But I have read enough of them to know that the good ones have plausible characters and realistic events and situations. Many of the characters in this book did not seem true to what I would expect in reality. Case in point, the world's greatest PI, Jay, never felt like a real investigator. The cops that were supposed to work with him treated him as a hero. Real cops wouldn't give that much credence to any investigator who wasn't on the job. Another example is the girlfriend, Shane. There was zero character development before Reid was falling in love with her. All we knew was that she had long hair and would ditch one boyfriend for a new one on the spur of the moment, but somehow he was magically in love with her by day two of knowing her. And let's not forget the massage therapist and the flight attendant who were ready to rip off their clothes at the slightest provocation. Apparently porn stars do move on to other jobs. Similarly, having a golf pro constantly stuffing his face with thousands of calories worth of food and alcohol per day, jogging an hour and a half a week, but somehow having washboard abs and muscular arms seems like a stretch. This guy had more time to hang out with friends and have impromptu beach parties than most professional anythings. Maybe that is how golfers live, though. It would explain some of Tiger's problems. The hardest part for me to buy was the guy who wound up being the criminal in the story. Somehow a gang banger magically transforms into a sniper with no training whatsoever. The author should read the story of Tacoma's 1989 Ash St shoot out to grok the basic truth that 99% of the time, bangers can't hit the broad side of a barn unless they walk right up to their intended victim, and even then it's iffy. All in all, this book just does not strike me as being plausible. And since it's not sci-fi or a bad action flick, its inability to ring true ruined it for me.

Too simple for my reading taste. I found this book to be simple...a man's Harlequin novel. No character development, no depth. Sorry, as much as I like golf, the PGA tournaments and even Tiger..this book was a bore. I hate the fact that I paid for it. Back to the library for me.

Great!. This book has to rate in a least the top 3 I have ever read! I would love to see a movie maybe?

Sudden Death. This book is about a bad boy golfer with an attitude, and he turns into a saint. The whole story is based around golf, this pro golfer has an all about me attitude and he can do no wrong. It took me several weeks to finish this book, I found it rather boring.

Sudden Death. Verrrryyyyy in tense Could see every words that explained everything Verrrryyyyy enjoyable

Disappointing, slow, anti-climactic. Great story line that never fulfilled. Lacked the building climax typical with any popular writer in the same genre. Meaning, you're given everyday activities with little to break the mundane. There is also no introduction to the adverse characters or possible suspects to peak interest. Lots of potential, but much room for growth.

Sudden Death. This read was great. Not really a sports fan, no knowledge of the game, but loved every word. Look forward to reading more.

Sudden death. Not too bad

Sudden death. Very, very repitous, pages and pages and pages of the same action

Sudden Death. I am an avid reader and I enjoyed this book very much. I will get the sequel. I am 80 years old and read 2 or 3 books a week.

READ 560 PAGES DIDN'T FINISH IT. I read a lot of this book and gradually put it down and wasn't compelled to pick it up again. I like more of a fast paced thriller. I like reading something that I can't put down and this just wasn't the case. Everybody is different.

Good fun. I enjoyed this page turner. A little disappointed in the ending, but all in all an excellent read. It will keep you flipping pages.

Yawn. Boring. 'oh I'm scared. But I'm worth millions. Oh scared. Oh let's go for hotdogs. Ph ive got a death threat. But it's ok I'll wear a vest and play awesome golf. Oh I'll choke down the back nine then get shot in the chest by a known gunman with a rifle from under 100 yards and he'll shoot me in the chest'. Woeful

Sudden death. I really did not like this book. I found it amateurish and naive .having to read about every hole on every golf course, and every meal was so boring and unnecessary and made the book at least twice as long as it should have. Sorry Mr Balkind won't be reading anymore.

Sudden Death. Easy and enjoyable read but slightly lacking in depth and the ending was fairly weak. Would read another novel by this author but fear a sequel may be a bit repetitive.

good bedtime reading. Started this book because James Patterson endorsed it and overall was pleased with novel. An easy read, the pages turned fast and engaged me from the onset, reading into the wee small hours to finish it! informative and well researched. Not quite as spell binding as J. P has become for me, but I will certainly read other mysteries that he pens. Crime fiction needs to be fast paced, with tender and humorous moments, with the occasional twist to keep the reader engaged and wanting more, it more or less achieved this, if a little boring at times. From the more critical viewpoint, some of the dialogue and scene setting descriptions became a little repetitive in my humble opinion and the introduction of the romance confused me a little. Was this a crime novel or a romance? However, overall I enjoyed the read, will read the sequel and anticipate that the author will grow, the more he writes; I hope so, there are too few authors out there of J.P's calibre - he could do with a little "playful" competition, even if it is unlikely he will be toppled from his lofty perch! A good read overall.

Not thrilling.. Writing is not very descriptive and not very thrilling. Basically a story about golf. Overall a bit boring.

Sudden death. Wow what a book and I don't live golf I could put in down fantastic must read

Sudden Death. Disappointing, this was not really a thriller as there was no suspense, more a story about how to spend your time and money when you're very rich

Reader. Being a golf player this book was read in four days could not put it done. Great read.

Sudden death. Book explained golf, but there wasn't too much of a suspense about it. It included changing his life around and falling in love as well as being threatened. To be honest, I was hoping that it would heat up and get slightly interesting. Too much about the INS and outs of golf, sorry but it became boring and monotonous. Giving three stars is actually very generous.

Dull and Amateurish. Sorry, this would not be published in the 'paper' world. No idea why it should be endorsed by any published author

Sudden Death. This is so amateurishly written. The dialogue between the characters is so awful it sounds like a child has written it. I, too, only chose this book because it was endorsed by James Patterson but he clearly hasn't read it. Don't waste your time with this book. Dull and boring and no murder.

Don't waste your brain cells.. Dire plotting and dialogue stiffer than a corpse. Unfortunately, there wasn't one. No murder, no mystery, no thrills.

Drab. Wasn't the golf that was boring, it was the fact it explained every god dam hole! And every meal time! It was very much like an inventory of his days activities. No suspence, which was strange given the title!

Sudden Death. Very slow. No suspense. Good sports writing, but not a thriller.

Sudden Death. Tee-rrific!! I couldn't put it down. You don't have to like golf to enjoy this book.

Alan. Unless you like golf there is no reason to acquire this book. It is monotonous, with no excitement. You keep reading in the hope something will happen, but it never does!

Sudden death. Excellent

Brilliant. Fantastic book. Couldn't put it down. Would recommend

Sudden death. I think the idea behind the story was good but not very well written. He made the main character sound very immature, I lost interest a couple of times and turned to another book picking this one up when I had nothing else to read.

Sudden Death. A very good story with suspense all the way through. The romance with Shane adds to the enjoyment as a second story.

Excellent(",). I really enjoyed this book(",) the detail was amazing.. Reid's life was amazing.. I couldn't put it down.. I finished the book in like 3 days.. I loved it all.. Well done to the author.. U got me with your wonderful book(",)

Slow....slooow......slooooooow :/. Nothing happened!!! Too slow not enough action for me. Sorry.

Golf Thriller. Balkind has created a character who is a believable, flawed and ultimately likeable. Reid is unashamedly human and personality development actually made me smile. The golf passages were beautiful. I felt like I was on the fairway with them. The pressure, the feel, the elation of a sweet hit. Well presented. Made me want to get out there immediately. The climax was sharp and unexpected. I enjoyed the shock of it. Great! A minor negative: I lost track if all the characters. Too many without memorable personalities. Of course, I realised after a while they were incidental and there only to build the tension but for a while I tried keeping track of everyone. Often in crime novels I'm annoyed when the plot deviates from the 'action' or main story. In Sudden Death it was a pleasant aside, introducing some characters I hope to meet again. In particular, the advertising campaign. Well orchestrated and described, I could see the set and you had me completely believing this was a real promotion. A great novel, easy to read, ultimately enjoyable.

This book is a must to read.. I'm not a fan of golf, but wow great book recommend to all

sudden death. half way through the book I was looking forward to the hero getting shot. it wouldn't have been a problem if I lost he book I had trouble picking it up.

Average. The main character was quite unlikable, shallow and not very believable. The way other characters seemed to idolize him was cringeworthy. No development of the character of the love interest Shane, and the way Reid fell in love with her based only on her looks a testament to the shallowness of the characters. Golf and security bits were good.

Sudden death. Didn't know much about golf but enjoyed the book anyway. Thanks for a good read, look forward to reading another of your books.

Average read. I found this a very average read. Felt the author missed the mark alot with his attempts at sarcasm and humor, I often found myself cringing. The plot was average, characters unbelievable and really the only part I enjoyed was the golf!

Sudden Death. How anyone could endorse this book is beyond me. It is a free book and I was overcharged.

Horrible. Read half and could not go on, characters are bland and boring, never found the point, no wonder they are not charging for this one, but still not worth your time.

Unlikable main character. I was sick of reading about the main characters perfect life other than the threats. This made him very unlikable in my eyes and made it an unenjoyable book

Sudden Death. Sorry folks. I've read a lot of books but I give this one a big thumbs down. I'm surprised that both Cussler and Patterson are said to endorse it. It's nothing like their caliber of writing. It reads like a paid advertisement for the life of the rich and famous and it's nauseating.

OMG don't read!. In my top ten worst books ever!! Anyone that says different has never read a book before.

Terrible. This has got to be one of the worst books I have read. The protagonist is in too much danger to play a round of golf with the president? Please.

Complete waste of time. Was hoping for a good whodunit with a golf motif but it's about 200+ pages of a guy taking people shopping. I think this was an eighth graders book report...

Sudden death. Brilliant

Reads like a newspaper. Very flat. Lacks descriptors. The main character falls for a woman at a glance and they're saying "I love you's" after about a paragraph of "four" play. Poor pacing. I liked the fact the book was based in a golf setting.

Sudden death. Not too bad. Easy to read but hokey in some places.

Sudden death. I thought this was a great read for the phone. I found it really interesting. Worth reading when you have nothing to do.

Great book. This book has a good story. Gets a little boring in the middle but smashes with excitement later on. Also it ends to quickly.

Compelling. I am not a golfer and do not understand the attraction ( but I like the Mark Twain quote about a good walk spoiled) but I enjoyed this novel, only the second book that I read using my iPad. I look forward to reading other works by this author. Alan in Toronto.

Good story. I know absolutely nothing about golf, yet this story was still a very good read!

Sudden death. This is my first book that I read on my iPhone not knowing if I would like this format or the good old paperback I decided to get a free one, that way I wouldn't feel back if I never liked the story. Boy did I ever enjoy this one very easy to read and a very good story line I'm buying the next one for sure

Sudden death. One of the best books I have ever read I love it :)
