The Best Ever!. I used to think that "The Fountainhead"was the best book I would have read ever......but it was only till "Shantaram". The fact that it's non-fiction makes it even more incredible but on second thoughts,no sane mind with the most vivid imagination could have imagined this insane journey. An experience of a lifetime to be cherished while it lasts because when it's over,you will be convinced that you will never have such a reading experience in your lifetime again!

Great Book. This is the best book I have ever read. It's so good that this is my third time reading it, now I'm onto the sequel Mountain Shadow.

Remembrance. I first read this book 15 years ago… and always remembered how there were so many times in the book where a phrase was uttered that made me stop, think, and reflect about my life. And after 15 years… I’m still stopping, thinking and reflecting.

Shantaram. I don't read that many books and this one was recommend by a friend, I'm retired and have time now and just want to say thanks to my friend for telling me and thanks to Gregory David Roberts for writing one of the best books I've ever read. God Bless

Beyond the norm. This book is the only book I can saw without a single bit of doubt changed me. It is well written as well as one of the best plots I have ever read. And the questions it asks are ones I continue to strive to answer.

Shantaram. The book is incredible in it's imagery, it's plot, and character building. I felt immersed in the story of Shantaram from the moment I opened the book. I had a lot of trouble with my iBook format of this book. But just technical problems

In turn his life got. Flipped turned upside down. However the old saying you’ll...laugh, you’ll.....cry, and yet to the very day in my life I have have yet to enjoy reading 1000 pages more then I did these. bravo to the Author and storyteller, why Steven Spielberg has yet to easily turn this into an Oscar winning performance is beyond my understanding! READ THIS BOOK NOW YOU WILL NEVER FORGET IT AND IT WILL CHANGE WHO YOU ARE AT THE CORE AS A HUNAN BEING. Enough said! Enjoy I know you will!

Best book I’ve read in last 3 decades. Brilliant writing and a great picture of the Indian and Arab cultures. Also good philosophy sprinkled throughout.

Masterful. A tale of timelessness written in postmodern times, bigger than anything that could have come from America since WW2. Stunning in scope and too big for a movie. Highly recommended. Read it while visiting India for max effect.

A Travelers Must Read. Such a great read. Warning though, once you pick it up there is no putting it down. It will consume you.

Shantaram. This is an unbelievably well written book. The descriptions used take you away from your reality into Lin's reality. "Impossibly beautiful, impossibly beautiful, impossibly beautiful"!

Marvelous, frightening, beautiful... if a bit long winded. What makes this exploding kaleidoscope of a book extraordinary, are the evocations of life and beauty in the wretched vastness of the Mumbai slums. So much humanity, sweetness, hope, courage in the face of endless poverty, with story after story unfolding in a cornucopia of heart-stopping surprises. Yes, there are sticky-sweet love affairs, and gun battles, and far too many fights, and philosophizing, but under all that is a uniquely beautiful story created by a powerful, if damaged, heart, seeking its salvation, renewal and forgiveness , hopelessly in love, most of all with India and its teeming city by the sea.

Shantaram. This is a wonderful story, rich with the customs, flavors, sounds and emotional intrigues of a country long misunderstood by most outsiders. It is a "must-read".

Shantaram. I found this book to be one of the most addicting I have ever read. I was captivated by the authors wording, and the emotion of thought throughout the book. The five star rating is very well deserved.

Great book. One of the best novels I’ve ever read

Streets of Bombay. Roberts is an exquisite storyteller, i couldn’t put it down.

Gorgeous. Pretty much a perfect gorgeous work of art. Exquisite from the first line to the last. The only book I reread, and read like scripture, nourished with something new each time.

A cultural journey. Shantaram was an amazing journey through foreign lands I'd never have thought I'd learn of. It's rich in detail and characters and culture, and despite what felt like a lack of "plot", the journey was tumultuous and fascinating. I learned a lot, and I feel as though my eyes were opened to a part of the world whose society and culture was so lovingly captured by the author. A long read, but worth it.

Shantaram. This is one of the best novels I have read in a very long time. It was a definite page turner that I went to bed at night reading and woke up with it in the morning. Gregory David Roberts is a master of the written word and an expert at drawing you into the heart and soul of his characters. This book should be on the top of everyone's list of books to read. I am hungry for something else of his to read.

Good long read. I started reading this book while I was in the hospital having been diagnosed with leukemia - one of my few reposes during that time were the books that had been provided by generous people to the hospital's library - while I read it then it took me to an amazing world brought to life in words - and one I'll not soon forget having finally bought the book online

Incredible book. Not much to say other than this is probably the best novel I've ever read. Certainly the best that I've read in the past 20 years. A MUST READ.

Shantaram. what a read, what an engrossing adventure. the author whisks us far far away to the magical land of Bombay. It is there we learn to love a cast of characters who are bigger than life. This tome has everything to keep us glued to the page, and when we finally close the book we still see the crowds, hear the noise, the feel the joys, and the sorrows. Roberts provides us with a deep look into the souls of men, their struggles for this one chance they call life in a exotic land. 5 stars.

Amazing story. True and honest and unreal. It held me from page to page. When I was finished it was like losing a comstant friend.

A great read!. Before I watched the series I wanted to wrap myself into the book to then compare the two. The book is beautifully written, with many quotes I was able to highlight and hopefully remember. I loved immersing myself into a culture so different from mine. It’s long, but a book worth the time.

Fabulous isn't good enough!. This by far is one of the best books I have ever read! Intelligent, consuming, it will take over your life and you will want to start again from the beginning as soon as you finish it! I only wish that the author would write more! Thank for this book and all it's wisdom! I want to memorize so much of it!

Shantarimjob. It's a novel people, not a true story. I hate these holiday books. This was a massive piece of wank. Would rather read 1000 pages of peoples different out office email auto replies. (a low involvement hobby I invented) I felt dumber upon it's completion. People who liked this book also liked The Secret.

Egomaniacal. Way too long and unbearably self-aggrandizing.

Shantaram. To tell the truth I do not believe that anyone among the modern writers could be compared to Roberts. This was one of the most touching and moving story I have ever read. After reading the last page I could not help feeling of loss. The Great Piece of Writing!

A wonderful lasting surprise. An amazing book that has several life lessons. It is written with such authenticity that I can’t help but wonder if the author lived some of the stories. You have to feel some of that pain to know it. Shantaram will definitely be in my top 10 for a long long time.

Shantaram. After catching my breath after reading some 1400 pages in less than a week, I had to Google Gregory David Roberts. I found out that what I read was basically based on true events, it took this mastermind 13 years to write this book, and-Thank God-a sequel is coming. Rarely have I read a book that has been full of every possible scenario, one that appeals to every possible sense and emotion, one which could draw me in,throughout. There is philosophy in this book to no end. As I read it, I constantly wanted to text excerpts from the book to my wife and children. I started to make notes of interesting passages, and found that if I continued, I would write a book myself. I just dug in and enjoyed this book immensely. I can't wait to buy the gal that suggested it to me a nice big drink-it was exquisitely incredible. Read this book!

An enlightened read. What an enlightening read! The life lessons, the descriptiveness of the text, I was pulled into this incredible tale from the start. I enjoyed the pearls of wisdom shared from Khaderbhai to Lin. Lessons of honour, laws of the universe and such a different perspective on what's right. I also can't quite believe that this is mostly a true tale! What an adventure! There's a place for everyone it seems...

Shantaram. Self indulgent. Besides finding his rambling impossible to follow at times ... the super hero image he portrays of himself gets tiresome fast. Sadly, even the richness of the Indian culture gets lost in this mess. Do yourself a favour and read "A Fine Balance, if you haven't already.
