Dracula by Bram Stoker Book Summary

An Apple Books Classic edition.

Few characters have seized readers’ imaginations quite like Count Dracula of Transylvania, the hero of Bram Stoker’s classic. The 1897 novel put vampires front and center on the cultural map, providing direct inspiration for an entire subgenre of bloodsucker fiction - including blockbusters like theTwilight series and Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles - and spawning hundreds of movie adaptations!

Stoker’s novel is a thrill ride, following Dracula as he moves from Transylvania to England in search of fresh blood, while a small but dedicated group attempts to thwart him. Want more Stoker? Check out his great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker’s 2018 novel, Dracul.

This is a gothic horror masterpiece which is dripping with atmosphere. Ever time you read you feel as if you’re there and it is one of my many favorite vampire stories

Book bad. Too scary for me. Don’t let your kids read it.

- Fabulous!5 star

- Deacula5 star

Wonderful narrative, full of details and excitement.

- Spoilers!4 star

Although it can sometimes be a little hard to understand the story it tells is amazing it is truly saddening at Renfields and Quincy’s death and Lucy’s death as a vampire didn’t seem sad but almost like an occasion the only thing that was off-putting was that Arthur and Seward get married after Lucy but at least they are happy

- Fantastic Book5 star

I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it. It has a slow start to it but after that it picks up in pace and is just wonderful.

- Dracula5 star

Invigorating. Horribly outstanding. Bram Stoker’s masterpiece continues to burn through the passing of the years and still remains one of the most well written and classically acclaimed horror stories in history.

- A classic that haunts modern day5 star

The best vampire book. Hands down. This classic is sure to please and you’ll refer to it over and over again.

- One of the finest books of the Victorian Era5 star

I enjoyed this book and even though the story has been repeated an ungodly amount of times. None of them hold a candle to the original.

- Classic Horror5 star

To this day the original story of Dracula is still by far the scariest.

- Dracula5 star

A classic written in an interesting manner.

- Why2 star

Boring. I was thinking that I could do something more fun

- Perfect5 star

This digital copy is perfect, it had the whole story and no missing parts. Sure it is plain but it was exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to read the original Dracula story.

- Dracula by Bram Stoker5 star

This is a fabulous book, although long. But, once finished, you realize it could not have been shorter so keep with it. Stoker uses plot to bring what at first seem to be disparate character threads together and makes great use of tension right up to the last. I couldn’t put the book down. What a genius to write such a book that withstands the test of time. A true classic.

- dracula5 star

great free book!

- The Dracula Epic.5 star

A epic, masterful account of the cursed and the swords that fell him. Bram Stoker delivers an exquisitely comprehensive journey from the Count’s castle to London to the majestic Carpathian Mountains and the mythical region of Transylvania. The story unfolds itself almost exclusively through journal and diary writings detailing the vampire’s stranglehold over beasts and weather and the dramatic chase to end his cursed reign over dear Madam Mina and all those he commands. An elaborate tale, deliciously articulated with climactic resolve. Brilliant! GP

- Bananana5 star

It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen.............…………………… it's a bananana next to a bananana

- Good book.5 star

I just finished reading a book I really didn't have a lot of interest in but it was a freebie on Apple iBooks. It pulled me in and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't too spooky but the writing format was a little odd until I got into it.

- Timeless classic!5 star

Incredibly well written and enthralling!

- Shocking book p.s I like it ohhhh5 star

Good book good book very good book. I like it so much I put under my pillow and sleep with it

- O.V. (Original Vampire)2 star

From what I understand, this is the first piece of media involving vampires. I guess Mr. Stoker mentioned a book in an interview, cited it as inspiration, and hoped, also, that another author would complete her scholarly work of the nosferatu. However, this seems to be the original, gold standard of vampires. Anyone looking for more information on where vampires come from will find it interesting. It is allegedly gathered from all the myths and traditions. However, anyone looking for a good story and not considering it an essential piece of literature to our culture, is better off choosing a more modern book. Dracula drags on and on between scary parts. And the philosophy, or "moral" of the story is so obvious and wordy, it makes you think there must be a different meaning.

- Dracula5 star

Amazing vocabulary

- This is Terrible1 star

I hated this book. If you are in school you may want to read it or else you will get a D on the test like I did :))

- Great book4 star

This book is magnificently well written. A portrait of the British society at the time, representing the people with principles. I love the tenderness and the politeness characters have in the dialogues. Really worth!

- Classic Story5 star

I read this book decades ago. This is the first book I've read on my iPhone. I ended up using Sepia to view the text. It is very easy on these eyes. I love to read and the iPhone makes it easy to bring your books with you. Dracula is a great story told all in journals and notes written from many different views. If you have seen the original film with Bela Lugosi, the book goes to a deep and rich depth. If you want to see a film version that is closer to the book, check out the one with Louis Jourdan from the BBC. It is one of the best.

- Dracula1 star

Yuck it is horrible😒😒😒😒

- Dracula5 star

How wonderful to experience the narrative of Dracula! To walk with each character as they describe in journal their individual struggle, feelings, fears. I felt what they felt, heard what they heard, wept as loved ones were taken by the evil of the undead. I found the ending somewhat anticlimactic, actually expecting one final battle. A wonderful classic though, a must read for all lovers of books.

- Awesome book5 star

There was alot of tension and questions?? It was just awesome

- Dracula5 star

A very good read. I can believe that when it was written it would have brought all the fears of the unliving to the readers of Victoian times. Now to watch the movie!!!

- Dracula5 star

A fabulous classic! I could not put it down. So much more detail to the powers of a vampire as well as the limitations. The writing flows. Bram Stoker was a master.

- Skinjacker Trilogy5 star

Check out the book series of Neal shusterman called the skinjacker Trilogy the books are (book one) EVERLOST (book two) EVERWILD (book three) EVERFOUND these books are amazing

- Dracula5 star

Excellent book. Could not put it down. Highly recommended.

- Dracula4 star

Recommended reading for anyone who wishes to discover the original source of the current vampire craze. As with most "period" writing, it is a real eye-opener to see how social mores change over a hundred years or so . . .

- Dracula5 star

Cool. Book . Worth re reading

- Awesome5 star

One of the best books I have ever read. Love the diary approach.

- Dracula5 star

At first it took my full attention. Midway, the course of the story seemed endless. But when continued, the storyline exceeded my expectations by far. A great read!

- Lame5 star

This was the lamest story ever written

- A great story!3 star

Enjoyed this book thoroughly!

- THE BEST5 star

maby the one of the best novels in history and definitly the best vampire story in history

- Excellent5 star

Third time thru and so pleased it was the original version!

- Absorbing5 star

Although slow in parts, the imagery and the weaving of the story are breathtaking. It's the type of story that can transport you to another place and have you marvel at how noble people can be. A great tale of humanity and a genuine classic

- Surprisingly good5 star

After watching all modern vampire movies with their special effects, I was not expecting much from a dusty old vampire book. It was really a pleasant surprise to read this book. It is simply a great story masterfully written by a skilled author. Instead of a narrator, we discover the story through the journals and the letters of the characters, which gives a very interesting perspective.

- GREAT!!!5 star

What a story! I could actually picture the scenes being described, and they scared the crap out of me...a true testament of good story telling! An absolute must read for anyone who loves vampire stories. Summing it up in one word...classic!!!

- A classic5 star

A classic novel and the only way vampires should be known.

- Awesome5 star

Gave me goosebumps, amazing classic!

- Amazing!!!5 star

Dracula is one of the best books I have ever read! And I've read a lot of books! Anyone who is interested in vampire books should definitely read this as it is the original true vampire story! However, this book is not just for vampire lovers, it really is for anyone who enjoys a great work of fiction; with in depth characters, and never a dull moment, this is a book that you won't want to put down!! One other aspect of this book that I loved was that, although it is a classic and was written such a long time ago, the language is still very easy to read and understand!! It's a classic and it's free, give it a try and I bet you'll enjoy it as much as I did!!

- Often copied but never bettered!5 star

This is now my fourth read of Dracula and it never disappoints. As with other classics it is often retold, reworked and reimagined but the original story is a gem that shines through all the dust of the years. I am always gripped by the details and drawn to different aspects of the characters. My view of these characters has changed with ageing which brings a freshness with each reading. It is hard to put this book down once begun. It is a fascinating glimpse into the late Victorian age with all its sensibilities and customs. A true classic and an engrossing read. Often copied but never bettered.

- Love love love5 star

Amazing I love love love love it

- Dracula5 star

Again, so different to the movie. A fantastic read

- Inspired yet indifferent4 star

Although I loved the literature of the book I felt as if it lacked reason. I first watched Coppola’s interpretation of ‘Dracula’ which gave more body behind the story. I really did enjoy this book and am glad to have read it - but I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed to find that the original concept of ‘Dracula’ disregarded the origin of Dracula himself and vampires. I regret to say I preferred the movie, but still found immense satisfaction in reading the book.

- Dracula5 star

A great read thank you. I love stories and books about the count. Thank you . Keep up the good work.

- Yeah5 star

Yeah nah it's good. 7/11 would Dracula again.

- Thx1 star

- An excellent read5 star

Easy to read, captivating, easy to read in between activities as there are lots of little sections in each chapter. Highly recommended.

- Beautifully written4 star

This book was such a captivating and interesting book to read. It was hard to stop in between chapters because you just want to keep reading! The language is so rich, emotional and descriptive which is what I love most about it.

- Alucard5 star

Where is Integra, where is Seras and where is Schrödinger?

- dracula5 star

Classic Victorian melodrama/horror. Bram Stoker has created one of the horror genre's most enduring figures. Forget Interview with a Vampire, forget Twilight, Stoker did it first and did it best! When they invented the term, ripping yarn, this book was the template. Read it before? Me too, years ago. I'd forgotten how good it really is. Try it again, what have you got to lose except a good night's sleep? Spooky!

- Great book5 star

The best gothic novel ever written

- Dracular5 star

This book was really good but I recommend it to people over 10 or 9 I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did !!!!!!!!!! :-)

- Isaidwarrick3 star

A good book although a bit slow at times.

- Dracula5 star

Great story.... Timeless and entertaining MT

- Great book!5 star

Great book!

- Dracula3 star

Dracula by Brampton Stoker is a uniquely written manuscript that enriches the mind of gothic, horror, mystery and medieval lovers. Having being sent on a business holiday, Jonathan experiences superstition on his encounter with an eerie fellow named Dracula. Not realizing this horror, his fiancé seems to be developing some connection to the person. It isn't before long that that several individuals in England find out about the superstitious figure of Dracula and attempt to rid of him altogether with God on their side. It is a battle between light and darkness. For those who want to read this, you'll enjoy it, but you may at a a point grow a bit uneasy due to the lack of action throughout.

- Captivating!4 star

Although slow in parts, this classic was extremely well written, I was quite sad to finish it!

- Slow burn.5 star

The writing structure (being narrated in a series of diary entries, memoirs and newspaper clippings) was at first hard to adjust too, however it is definitely worth it. After starting strongly there is what seems like a lull about 80 pages into the book which makes it appear dull. However it, in retrospect, turns out to be a master stroke. There’s a reason this novel is a classic. Dark, insidious and claustrophobic, 10/10.

- So good!5 star

One of the best classic books I have ever read! Definitely recommend it. It’s quite lengthy but it’s definitely worth the time and money!

- Dracula5 star

Not read all of it yet!

- Boring af2 star

So bored reading this that I didn’t end up reading it

- Dracula1 star

- Mr.5 star

Lovely read.....much bettter than the movie!

- Good read3 star

Anticlimax ending, glad I read it though

- Fantastic5 star

Bram Stoker's Dracula is a very enjoyable read. It is written in the form of various diaries, in the perspective of the main characters. Although Dracula is a story that I was somewhat familiar with (from popular culture), the book was still interesting and filled with suspense. Would highly recommend.

- its ok2 star

its ok

- Gr8 m95 star

This book was gr9 m9. Tell that Bram Stoker lad he is sick at writing books, coz this was a real funny book. I enjoyed it. Thanx for the read Bram.

- Transylvanian5 star

This book is simply stunning, full of adventure and well written!!!! A must read to all adventure lovers

- The Horror Classic that defined Vampire Fiction5 star

One of the most famous novels ever written and definitely one of the best, Dracula cleverly hides his vampire identity during the novel and knows when to strike fear into our hearts.

- Classic horror has stood the test of time - it creeps up on you5 star

The format - extracts from the journals of those involved - deepens the sense of authenticity that this novel carries in it's deliberate and skilful unfolding of the story, and patient development of credibility in sense that makes this - even now in 2015 - a very creepy book, and not to be read before bedtime ! Van Helsing sticks to his accent and halting English and becomes more real with every page. Thoroughly worth the effort of reading- a real achievement in horror and true classic.

An amazing novel which is cunningly unpredictable

- Dracula - don't miss a word4 star

Terrific read, tough and a little laboured in parts, but an essential classic. Hugely well-written, so glad I have read it.

- Must read horror/thriller5 star

One word do describe it magnificent

- Dracula2 star

It was go good I wanted to read it again

- Dracula3 star

A rather long pursuit of Dracula only to end quite abruptly. Enjoyed most of it but struggled to understand some of the language.

- Great read4 star

Did not disappoint right up to the end

- Challenging..but couldn't put it down!5 star

Difficult to read in places but a thrilling story of horror and adventure. Well worth it!

- What a Brilliant Read5 star

Dracula was a character who's origin I knew nothing about. I saw this book I thought it would be worth a read. I fell into this book and loved every page. Great characters. Great story. Great book.

- Good4 star

It was really good

- A page turner!!5 star

Could not put down absolutely brilliant suspenseful and descriptive. Recommend highly!

- Awful1 star

I had to read this book for my English homework and I was very disappointed.

- Dracula5 star

An all time classic that we all know the story of, or we think we do. To read the original with its Victorian language and imagine the impact it would have made at the time makes this tale all the more remarkable. It's still full of tension and interesting characters to this day, it's easy to see why it has endured so long.

- Good book!!!5 star

- Dracula5 star

Excellent read from start to finish

- Wonderful5 star

Well I have finally read Dracula, and have found it to be a wonderful and engrossing story. I, like many, was put off by the hammer horror films which were based (loosely) upon the story of Count Dracula. But I decided to read it and found it to be a really compelling and classic book, which I would proudly have amongst my collection of Dickens and Chaucer on the bookshelf. I urge anybody with an interest in classical novels to read it, if they haven't already, and I urge anybody who just likes a very good story to also read it. Bram stoker is a literary genius.

- A fantastic read!!5 star

The prose is deliciously rich, and the plot is so suspenseful and eerie. No film remake of the book comes near to capturing its essence.

- Dracula5 star

Wow! I only thought this was popular because of its genre. It's actually a great story told in an interesting format. A bit long and wordy for modern readers but the story line makes up for that.

- Good read, lackluster ending4 star

I thought the end would be more intense. Still a good read!

- Loved it5 star

Definitely a classic worth reading

- Bloody good.5 star

Dripping fear somebody dies somebody gets away with murder.

- So Vivid!5 star

It’s a terrific, fun, read. Not great in the sense of Shakespear or Conrad or Joyce, but great in that it is ceasly thrilling. some friends couldn’t put it down! So well described, it springs to life. I’ve not reread it for metaphor; something on line suggested it might be ndicative of a fear that the quest for the British Empire might recoil on the British; but in this instance the conclusion would have to be that the British had liyyle to fear in that regard. Very sensual.

- Dracula4 star

It wasn't the best book ever, but it was good

- Dracula5 star

It's long book but very intros ting and exciting it feels like your in Transylvania,Virginia! It is a good book. Need to read it

The mighty power of God over evil is clearly shown in this book. This is not so much of a horror story but rather the proof of the power of good over evil.

- Dracula5 star

Stupid book

- Lives Up To the Standard of a Claasic4 star

Though Dracula had a rough start, it really got better as the book progressed. The multi-point-of-view format is interesting and and adds a lot to the book. The book kept my interest enough to keep me reading. However, I would've kept reading anyways as this was an assignment for my Literature class.

- Dracula, by Bram Stoker4 star

Excellent, excellent book. Tough read in places, but if you get into the zone with this one, it pays off.

- Awesome5 star

This book is the first of this type I have read and not get bored with it. I would love to see a current version of THIS book as a movie.

- Dracula5 star

Wordy but beautifully written. Even though you know how it turns out it is a compelling read.

- Terrific5 star

Although some of the language was difficult to understand, this was just a terrific story. I'm a little unsure about the Renfield part, and I'm not sure how much that really contributed.

- Simply Spectacular.5 star

One of the best books of al time. Would recommend.

- Classic!5 star

Incredible! Bram Stoker is terrific!

- Good5 star

This book was better than good it was exquisite I herd about it from a smaller version of it

- Boring1 star

This book just drags on and on. The best parts are the beginning and end when things actually happen. I wouldn't bother reading it if I was you

- Great5 star

Dracula is an excellently written book, but its certainly not for everyone. The plot of the book leaves a little to be desires but that's still not to say that it's not good. That being said, Bram Stokers ability to describe things and portray events and scenes is captivating! Definitely recommend if you enjoy reading for the sake of being taken away to a different place or state of being. Seriously, nobody writes like this guy!

- Review5 star

Bram Stoker's masterpiece, Dracula, is first horrifying, then (although I hate to mention it) slow, and finally thrilling. I recommend this book to peoples ages 15 and older -- as some scenes depicted are disturbing. --- Raj

- Loved the ending5 star

Everyone have heard of Dracula, still the book was really good. Totally recommend it

- Dracula5 star

Most descent a book, most amazing and awesome indeed, the best book I've ever read

- Review1 star
