The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Book Summary

An Apple Books Classic edition.

“Alone-it is wonderful how little a man can do alone! To rob a little, to hurt a little, and there is the end.” What would you do if you were became invisible? Would you use that power for good, or would you become consumed with the freedom it afforded you? Griffin, the antihero of H.G. Wells’ classic novel, definitely belongs to the latter school of thought. A misunderstood genius with albinism, Griffin has suffered taunts and isolation his whole life. As he descends into madness, his plans become far darker than simple revenge on those who have wronged him.

In addition to this creepy novel, H.G. Wells-who is widely seen as the father of science fiction-also wrote The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, and The Island of Doctor Moreau;. Besides killer plots, his work provides chilling insight on human nature. The Invisible Manis a story about cruelty, curiosity, and unfettered power. Read it-and you’ll immediately notice its inescapable influence on modern literature, movies, and comic books.

Really great book. Highly recommend

- Glad to finally read this4 star

Always wanted to read this story. It started out very interesting and was in general a good story. I wish there had been more back story about the main character and a little less of him just being hunted down. But hey, you cant argue with a classic.

- Very good5 star

Very descriptive. I had a fun time reading it page by page I could barely stand to stop reading it, so much in fact I was agitated when I finally did have to go to sleep at 1 a.m. Very good book. Highly recommended

- Invisible man4 star

It is a hard book to put down. I paused me to think about things we wish for that we think would be really great to have until we discover that it would be dangerous or wrong to have it. All things that glitter are not gold as Griffin found out.

- 🤩5 star

Good story 🙏😘

- Oldie but goodie5 star

Can always rely on a classic

- A Sympathetic Monster4 star

It’s a fascinating story! At first it seems to be a scientific experiment gone awry. I became sympathetic with his quandary. Perhaps because of his situation he evolves into a monster, perhaps seeing the futility of the situation and then feeling so trapped that he goes mad and becomes a killer

- Incredibly Brilliant5 star

Love it. I’m on page 60 and already completely captivated. Wells is an amazing author.

- Great5 star

- Great book5 star

Good read, all 500 iphone pages of it. Ive read it twice :P

- Great book!5 star

I am not one to read books very often but in the case of the Invisible Man, I could not stop reading and wanted even more when the books 417 pages were finished. This is an overall amazing book and you should defiantly consider buying it.

- Book is great, this edition is censored4 star

Inexplicably, this version uses euphemisms where Wells used the N word. While that word is no longer acceptable in most contexts today, there is no valid reason for this edition to censor Wells original words, no matter how offensive they might be. To censor without notice is an even more diabolical form of revisionism. I hope the producers of this ebook correct their error.

- Good4 star

It's a good book but boring sometimes

- Fun and surprising3 star

Wow! The invisible man is not a very nice fellow! This book was a much more coherent narrative than "The Time Machine" which is the only other HG Wells I've read. This was a good story. Not amazing or anything, but good.

- Great Story!5 star

I couldn't stop reading it! great story, but is it true?

- Johnny Depp weird4 star

It was good but a little strange. It reminded me of the johnny Depp type movies. Overall it was very good and suspenseful. Coming from an 11year of kiddo.

- Great book4 star

Great book but it's a little hard to follow at times but overall it's an awesome book... Some words are hard to understand but it's a defiantly must read especially if you like fantasy

- Amazing book5 star

Amazing to read and incredibly interesting, the invisible man is one of the best books I have read. I am in eight grade and although there was some difficult vocabulary. I could understand it with ease. Not the quickest read but an extremely interesting book I would recommend to anyone.

- Another wonderful classic!5 star

This was my first novel by H.G. Wells and I loved every word. A delightful tale about the evil side of mankind. It is universal theme that is readily applicable today.

- Ok3 star

Ok book, I might have liked it more if if it hadn't had been a class read.

- The Invisible Man4 star

This book is wonderfully written. Great plot, story, theme, and morals. It gets a bit wordy and confusing but stick with it. I enjoyed it very much.

- Best5 star

Loved every word on H.G Wells best

- The Invisible Man3 star

Although I did enjoy this book, it did not live up to my expectations. The plot was very weak and predictable. It may be hard to understand if you read below a high school or college level.

- Great book4 star

It was straight up great. Loved it!

Ok

- Superfoolery3 star

Whilst the numerous action scenes are tiresome to visualise, the monologue of the world’s first sci-fi supervillain is a fantastic discovery of his super powers and maniacal master plan for world domination.

- The Invisible Man5 star

This book by H G Wells is really really, good. It’s got a good premise and the build up is quite exciting. It makes you want to continue reading and reaches a crescendo at round about the middle of the novel. Loved it :-) and I’m sure gonna try and watch the latest updated version of the film released in February this year 2020 My opinion... Fantastic !!!! Go read it too.

- Couldn’t put it down!5 star

I am completing a classics book challenge and I must say I really enjoyed this one. H.G Wells writes this book with such pace you have to keep reading on to find out what happens next. Similar to Dr Jekyll in the sense that an experiment gives them these new found powers to live as they please and as they please does not involve helping others in anyway! The invisible man is a complete anti hero’s in that H.G Wells left me feeling sorry for this character and actually rooting for him to have his revenge against the other characters for their constant betrayal. I feel that anybody who is consistently spurned by mankind given his scientific discovery could easily become ‘the terror’ he became throughout the text. Such a good book - definitely will reread in the future!
