Surprising. I had no idea the book was so different from the movie which I love. I actually prefer the book now because there is so much more to the story.

A classic!. A must-read introduction to the Magical Land of Oz. There are many more episodes/events that happen in the book than were shown in any of the various film adapttions. Start here, and move to Book #2 the Marvelous Land of Oz, and Book #3 Ozma of Oz….

Wow!. This book was wonderful!

Good for a kids book. Fun book, 2 Complaints... 1. This book reuses the word AND, so much. And tells the reader things they already told us. For instance, “and Dorothy, and Toto, and the scarecrow, and The Tin Woodsman, and The Cowardly Lion, etc. 2. There are extremely wacky characters that are there for the sake of more characters. Most of these bazaar characters, only return into the story for 1 page, once more, or never again. Those are my main complaints. Though a little one is that the end feels extremely time crunched.

A quick and easy read. It was nice to see the parts that were left out of the movie.

Really Enjoyable Read. Throughout the whole book, there were small twists here and there keeping you very engaged. I absolutely loved the character of Dorothy as she makes new friends and somehow manages to kill 2 witches like are you kidding?!?! 🤣

Amazing fantasy world. This was an amazing story with some many great details that were left out of the movie. The story really draws you in and makes for a fast read. The world that Baum creates is very fascinating and really paints a beautiful picture.

Simple Classic Life Lessons. A light, joyful, simple story of a very important lesson - everything you seek and wish for us inside of you already. The scarecrow wanted a brain, but displayed problem solving skills the entire time. The lion wanted courage, but displayed acts of bravery through their entire journey to the Wizard. The Tin Axman wanted a heart, but showed more tender hearted emotions than any character. They already had what they sought after. The Wizard, not being a wizard at all but being wise enough (like any leader in life, especially religious) knew this and preformed false acts of wizardry to help the characters activate what was already inside of them. A great lesson or reminder for any age. A lovely read at 35 years old.

Curiosity satisfied!. I am thankful to have my curiosity fulfilled after 50 years since I was told the 1939 classic movie left out parts of the original Wizard of Oz storybook. The movie follows the book very closely until the adventurers come back to find the Wizard is a humbug, where the book continues with the other lands of Oz. No wonder there was so much demand in the early 1900s for followup with more stories! It’s very easy reading, even 120 years later. However, it is too heavy on the concept of ‘beauty = good and ugly = bad’. Reading aloud to the kiddos, I will tone that down. Next, the very end is the same in that Dorothy uses the magic shoes to get home, but it’s so sudden, I’m left wanting a followup on Dorothy’s life. Thankfully, there is no drivel about “never looking farther than your own front door”! However, I like the other moral of the movie better, the way the wizard presents the gifts to Dorothy‘s companions. Thank you, Apple, for the classic books!

Enjoyable original Wizard of Oz. I’ve always loved the Wizard of Oz movie. This book was fun to read and you can tell the movie was an adaptation of it. Easy reading. There’s a park in Chicago dedicated to Frank Baum and Oz. We went there when our kids were young. That’s been a good 25, 20 years ago. Wonder if it’s still there

Adventure wrote well. A fantastic adventure that enthralls and edifies. Not only is the book filled with life lessons, but the writing is top notch. English as she is written. Highly recommend.

Her friends are very helpful and brave, they saved the others many times. At the end Oz was a rondom man, he had been a hambug and tricked everyone in the Emerald City. I especially like the part when they arrive at the land of the South. This book is amazing and gives me ideas for my own writing. 👍🏻👏🏼

Wonderful for the imagination. The 1930s film heavily based on this book doesn't have all the amazing things that make the land of Oz, OZ. If you have a little child, or you want to do a book report, this book is short, but sweet in any way. It shows you that you don't need a magic potion to make you special, you only need your heart and uniqueness. All in all, the adventures in Oz are amazing, and I most definitely would recommend it.
