Brutally Honest. Fantastic may be an odd choice of word used to describe a book about war but that's what it is. If you've ever wanted to know what life was like for a soldier in Vietnam please begin reading now. It's not about tactics or if the United States belonged in Vietnam. It is about how a platoon leader did his job when the sun set and the jungle came alive with enemy movement. What I find most fascinating is how soldiers can function under such brutal conditions, both mentally and physically, and still perform their duty on a daily basis.

Excellent read. Book was great, I always wanted to turn the page to keep reading into the night.

The Killing Fields. An incredible look at the role of leadership in combat. Lieutenant Downs tells the raw story of war and its drama. It is hard not to feel the burden of telling his soldiers stories and plights in order to bring honor to the lives of these young men who battled bravely in a foreign land.

Outstanding read. A truly great read

Good read on difficult subject. As a Vietnam era vet, I found this to be a Very detailed, up close, and action packed. Gives you an idea of what it was really like to be there with infantry in the field. Well done.

Joe Schmeling. I'm not going to be long winded with this review. I read the hard copy version. I can't describe how TERRIFIC a read this is. It gives you the real description of what it was like to be a boots on the ground combat soldier in Vietnam.

Excellent. Excellent read,A real insight into this war and how it changed so many lives,on both sides a true inspiration.To read of the hardships and loss and the everyday close calls it's a wonder anybody ever came home at all.

Review. I could not put this book down, every page keep me engaged which is not an easy task. Thank you for sharing. I learned a lot about the war and glimpses of your days/nights must have been like, but more importantly about the returning veterans and the challenges that the wounded and the non-wounded had after the war. It was important that you recorded this period of time but I'm again struck by our ongoing need to fight the next enemy with such a high cost of life and damage on both sides. I hope all is well with you and again thanks for sharing your experiences.
