Love Wins. Great Book !!

Love doesn't win. If this were true, why did we need Christ?

Interesting.... Even though I don't agree with everything Rob says I think it's great not to just hear one side of an argument on any issue. However, I do not like how the wrath of God wasn't really dealt with. I will not write another book right now, but it's good to know what other people are interpreting as "hell" and "heaven" when reading the Bible.

Interesting. This book provides an interesting take into religion, heaven and hell, and what it means to be a Christian. It's an easy read and I would recommend it to be read with an open heart and open mind!

Not true!. If you read, please take the time to research Rob's points. It will take time because he doesn't actually quote scripture with actual references. Also make sure you read in context what is quoted. Rob is far off from Truth. Don't be misled. Things in the Bible can and should be taken literal! There is a Hell and people will be there for eternity. That's why the whole Bible preaches urgency about spreading the Gospel. No way would Paul, Peter, and so many others have lived and died like they did unless there was an urgency to telling people about Jesus. Common sense! Please be careful if you read this book. Rob Bell is a false prophet!

Incredible. Loved reading a book that challenged the norm. You won't make church friends with this book but maybe it will touch the ones on the outside and who knows love could win.

Love wins. Nothing short of amazing. Completely liberating. I feel as though I can truly see my life now, as it is and always has been. Rob Bell, thank you.

Love Wins. I believe in the God Rob Bell describes in this book. I lovelovelove this book!

Love Wins. Love this book.I will definitely read it again. It is a keeper. 5 stars

Loving but just. I'm guessing people have never read the bible that agree with rob bell in this book. He takes verses way out of context to prove his point. Read the bible literally people... The only way to heaven is through faith of a loving relationship with christ. "Many people will say on that day Lord, Lord did we not prophecy in your name and cast out demons. He will say depart from me I never KNEW you." Hell is real, people are there right now, and people will go there. The bible tells us to FEAR The Lord all throughout scripture. Why would we need to fear him if hell didn't exist? He is a God of love as well as a righteous judge. He sent his son to pay the price for you. All you gotta do is surrender you're life to him and fall in love with him. That's where you find salvation and that's where you find peace and rest.

Loved. It.. My only complaint is that it could have been longer! Absolutely love Rob's perspective on God and on life -- very refreshing. Do not be troubled by the bitterness and hardened hearts of the haters -- they existed in Jesus' day as well, and they were among the only people that Christ ever told specifically that they were going to hell.

An eye-opening, life-changing perspective. "Love Wins" provides an incredible perspective about life, death, "in" and "out" and what love and forgiveness really mean, in a world torn apart by judgement and condemnation.

Confusing. Rob asks lots of questions but provides no sound answers. This book is a waste of time.

Why?. I just wonder why it seems the main defense by lovers of this book toward those who challenge its Biblical validity is, "don't judge this book because you haven't even read it yet?" How can u so haughtily assume this? You don't know who has or has not read the book. Please get a better defense than this fabrication. Thanks

Wow. Unbelievable.. Let me say first off... Rob Bell has given some of the best and my most favorite sermons EVER! I love the way he thinks, but he got too caught up in this. The bible states there is a he'll and that people will go there for ETERNAL LIFE... Its not a PRISON... Yes GOD LOVES US VERY VERY VERY MUCH! so much he gave us... His very creation... FREE WILL... he wants us to CHOOSE HIM... and to CHOOSE TO LOVE HIM... If we choose not to surrender to him then you were given your choice many times... And YOU CHOSE HELL... But if a person has never experienced or heard or understood the gospel of course GOD ISN'T GOING TO TURN THEM AWAY... they were never given the chance to choose. ROB, please man I am praying for you. Find yourself and fix what's going on man. You are an amazing speaker but you have taken it beyond what it is literally saying. Love you man. Prayers are with you!

Thanks!. The first time I truly understood the full meaning of the prodigal son as it relates to my relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. On earth as it is in heaven, every moment! Peace and blessings!

Not what Jesus said !!!!!!. What does JESUS!! Say !!!!

Read the bible!. My pastor did a great sermon on this! This guy really needs to read the bible more closely! He's all "feel good" but the truth is if you haven't repented and led a Christian life you will not make it to heaven!

A New Way of Thinking. I read this one twice because it encouraged me so much. I feel freedom from it's words. That's all I want to say.

Amazing. The courage to write this book is as impressive as the book itself.

Saddened. Rob Bell is a tremendous author. His writing style is superb. However, I am deeply saddened by this book. Love is rooted and grounded in truth, and, if it isn't, than it isn't love. We cannot throw out truth in order to love people or to make them feel more loved by God. The converse is true. The more we compromise truth the less we are actually loving people and the more we are separating them from God's love. Jesus said that He is looking for worshippers who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. The two go together. You can't separate them. God wants passionate emotional worship, but it must be based on truth and vice-versa. If the worship we have for God isn't based on truth than it isn't worship at all. I think the conclusions, or lack there-of, reached in this book about love, hell, and the after life are very misguided and extremely dangerous. I would encourage readers of this book to take a deeper look at what the Bible has to say about these topics and to read other authors on this subject as well. The reality of an actual hell is something Orthodox Christians have agreed on for centuries. For further reading on this topic I recommend Francis Chan's book "Erasing Hell" that will release shortly.

Incomplete and vague. This book is incomplete in the sense that the Bible gives a much more complex view of God than this book offers. God loves all people, but he also judges nations and shows wrath. This book leaves the impression that God only judges us by letting us run from him. That's not true. The interpretation of Biblical passages in this book is seriously lacking in consideration of the contexts that each passage is pulled from. The book is also vague in that I can't tell what Bell thinks of Hell after people die. I may have just missed his thoughts on this, but this is my understanding: Bell believes people live hell on earth by not choosing Jesus. But no clear picture is given (that i recall) of what happens after death. It seems the implication is that those who reject Jesus will go to some state of living where Jesus will continue to pursue them until they give up fighting his love and accept what he offers. Like heaven is right in front of them but they refuse to go in, until Jesus convinces them. The book has some good points (like how people should live the good life God offers right now) but over all it was disappointing and somewhat disturbing.

Wow.. Challenging, convicting, compelling.

substitutionary atonement. Though out this book Rob describes God well but not 100% correct. He slowly evades at the substitution that Christ was for us, suggesting that only Christ coming as the incarnate of God is enough, not His death and resurrection. With that little deceit you negate most of Romans, Hebrews and other New Testament books. You have to be careful, a small lie mixed in makes the truth not complete or no longer truth. Always check with His word first. God is real, He has spoken and continues to speak. Hear Him today!

Amazing. This book opened my eyes to a view I would have never been able to fathom. Am I now a true believer that there is no heaven and hell, no. But I do believe that we live with heaven and hell every day of our lives and for so many people they live mostly with the hell that they have chosen or the hell that is forced upon their unfortunate upbringing. It is a sad day when I hear so many Christians review this book with malice in their words because this book was not meant to destroy their belief system but to help those in need of a positive outlook on this religion that at times can seem so judgmental. Why hate on such a positive message, when all his writing relate back to the concept that god loves everyone of us unconditionally. We all need to try and make a heaven on earth now. There is enough hell as it is.

Shaun’s view. I was both scared and excited to read this book. I was first introduced to this book in a podcast debate about this book. The concept of Jesus changed everything and did the work, we do nothing is nothing new but we tend to taint the pot. I believe you teach the Bible by using the Bible; you make a point from the Bible not get a point and use the Bible to support it. Rob does an excellent job using the Bible to teach the Bible; bravo! I finished the book with hunger for more. My only major issue with this book is; it left out a major issue; it didn’t answer a question it was trying to solve. What about those who completely deny Jesus and God; want nothing to do with them; will they be forced into submission which would defy the whole concept of the book, “Love wins”, if live can’t be forced then everyone can’t be “saved”. Maybe we don’t have all the answers and that’s ok, right?

Misinformed. Used to love Rob's books but this one is way off base

Love Wins!. In this book, Rob Bell speaks to the ultimate tension of a God who is all loving in life but fierce in judgement at death if faith is not accepted. He lays out a compelling case not only for life but an understanding that hell is chosen when one refuses to trust the reality in front of us. Ultimately, we get what we want when we fail to live in God's world God's way. Give this book to the Christian or non Christian who holds to a distorted view of a God other than the one Jesus came to bear witness. It will change their life and view of how their life story is said to be retold by a God, who in the end, wins.

From a former Christian. Had I read this book in my youth, I might still be a Christian today. As it is, I found Pastor Bell's writing both engaging and encouraging. Bell gives the most loving and uplifting take on the Good News I have ever read/heard.

A lot to think about. That God's plan is, and always has been, to redeem everyone and everything makes a lot more sense than the "turn or burn" God I've heard (and told others) about. My dad used to say, "If we're right about God and Heaven, good for us. If we're wrong, what have we lost while living the best life we can for God and others?". I see now that my dad left my "faith door" open for future revelation about what God's doing in the world, in me, and through me as He reveals it to me (or perhaps as I'm ready to accept it). Isn't it strange how our parents grow wiser as we get older? I have questions about the devil, the point of man's fall (was it's purpose to create the opportunity for choice?), and evil in the world that is beyond what I believe man could create on his own (evil supernatural influences like the demonic possessions described in the bible). Are the devil and the angels that fell to be redeemed as well? I guess a good question to my question might be, "Is that, or anything else, outside of God's redemptive power and love?" Rob, thank's for once again "making me uncomfortable" with what I believe. The real Truth of who God is and what He's doing in the world is at the end of a long road of questions traveled by those who aren't afraid to be wrong. Sincerely, A fellow traveler

Avoid this book. Not biblically sound. Strays from the path of true doctrine. Understand everything about God, the Holy Spirit and how they operate is objective, not subjective to human understanding. Especially not this guy. Pick up the book 'Forgotten God' by Francis Chan. The guy doesn't make profit of his books he forwards it to other ministries.

Don't be fooled.... Hell is real, read your Bibles everyone.

Amazing. I grew a born again Christian in a private school and later reverted to paganism beliefs. I still believed in the words of Jesus but found Christians and their teachings of damnation and judgement very hypocritical. After reading this book I came to see the bible and god in a different light. It all makes a lot mor sense know.

Love Wins. Those who haven't read the book want to be the first to condemn. Well, I've read it. All I can say it...love wins! Thank you Rob Bell and thank you God for Rob Bell. :)

Do not read!. This book is heresy! Rob is lied to by the devil! There is a hell, and people are going there! That should be motivation for us as Christians to preach the Gospel more and more! Don't let yourself be caught up into believing the lies that spew from Rob Bell's mouth!

Ignore the controversy. I don't understand the controversy, it's a good book. Even if you don't agree with Bell's conclusions about Hell (although I did to a large degree), it's worth reading. As the title implies, the book is about love.

Rob who?. This book is for cop-outs.

Great Job.. This book is doing exactly what it was set out to do! For youth and adults to ask or re-ask the big questions in life! There is no denying he has little evidence but this book isn't for defending as much as it is saving people who can't deal with a traditional view of hell. The love is what needs to e focused on. He does a pretty great job at that. Everyone who says he's a heretic just wants to hurt someone and make them feel higher. It's really awful the words people use on this rating and review system. Please use kind words, let's be Christ-like and respond with wise advice and helpful criticism. If you're here to bash, you're wrong- and you won't make an impact to Any of the readers that enjoyed it. Sure Rob is not perfect and some of his teachings may have some holes. But he isn't trying to fill up these holes, he's trying to make these theology holes noticeable to all in a simple read for the world. THANKS ROB! Continue to do what you do. Just because someone calls another heretic doesn't mean they're right, and it doesn't mean they have authority from God to say such things. If you're going to judge someone- judge them by their heart. The heart tells a lot.

Lies.. I don't care how convincing he is. There is a Heaven. There is a Hell. You decide where you go by choosing Jesus or not. Yahweh is the God of Love, but He is also the God of Wrath. Strangely we conveniently forget that.

Perfect. Best book I’ve ever read. Thanks, Rob.

Satanic. A message of lies and deception from Satan. Paul said if any man teach a different gospel from what you received from Him, let him be condemned to Hell! This is that message Paul warned about!! Paul says let this man be condemned to Hell! Rob Bell and his message is not one of love but is Satanic!

The critics of this book may be like the prodical son's older brother.. I know this book is very controversial to many people. Just after I got into the third chapter, I said to myself, "This guy is really stretching any reasonable interpretation of the Bible." Then, after finishing it, one thought and two questions for all of us came to my mind. First, the bible clearly says that we can separate ourselves and be separated by God from Him by our choices. But, it also says God promises to NEVER stop loving us. To fully comprehend this, it is important that we know that love is different than separation. The first question is: "Do we truly understand the depth of God's love?" The second question is: "Are we sure, as limited humans, completely confident without a doubt, that perfect love stops trying, when perfect love has the power to achieve His will in heaven?" Read this book and ask yourself these questions. You may find out like me that I'm not my neighbor's judge. I am however to be a light of faith, hope and love, even as much as that falls short of God's prefect light.

So wrong. As a student at a Christ-centered university and someone who has grown up in church, this book truly gas me scared for the human race. Having had classes that require me to focus on topics such as this it truly frightens me that people actually base their Worldview on outlandish statements such as this. I used to have a lot of respect for Rob Bell with his work on the Nooma videos, but after reading this book, I have lost a lot of respect. Rob Bell asks more questions than he answers and the majority of his references are taken out of context to support what he believed. I truly pray that people will seek answers for themselves and not rely on this book.

Such a short exercise in theological arm twisting. First of all, I wouldn't have written this book. My reasons are a lack of writing skill and also the confidence Bell displays in questioning religious tradition that is way over my pay grade. He does it well by bringing out many important ideas that Bible believing folk ought to struggle with. He also invites a bunch of people (if they read this) to come and see Jesus. Many who think they have church, God and Christianity all figured out may read this book and either rejoice or become quite uncomfortable. Three stars: I wanted to give this book four and maybe five stars, but I feel it is incomplete. It's like a hook at the start of a sermon series without a conclusion. What is the point of all this questioning? I think Bell's motivation is to start conversation. This is all well and good, but for the unbeliever answers are needed! Can Hell be permanent? I think Bell is saying yes but only if you really want it by resisting God's grace. He doesn't want to discuss this majority view of scripture. Why not? Its not toxic to tell the truth to those who want to know. Its toxic to teach a lie. Bell does not go down the heretical road of saying no to Hell. But, he also chooses not to reference the theological reasons that this doctrine is beleived. This is tolerable, but why not spend more time unpacking why anyone “good” would choose Hell? What about Ghandi, about a good as humans get (from our perspective). Did he reject Jesus because of others view of Jesus or the motives of his own heart. There is a strong chance that he made social justice his God and believed Jesus complete teaching was not enough. Ghandi suffered and sacrificed for change, but heaven is for those who desire “God's story” as Bell puts it. Heaven is not our design it is God's best for us. Unfortunately, there are many people who will side with the older brother in chapter 7, and rather see justice served than grace offered to all. Good work is not enough for the good news to stick if the presence and Word of God is rejected in our hearts. The gospel therefore needs to be heard everywhere. It's not good news for those who don't hear the message. The Spirit of God is making Christ known here, there and everywhere through those he is calling and even the rocks crying out. A metaphor for evidence for God within all creation. I agree with Bell that the church needs to reinvest her energies to talk about the celebration of the present kingdom of God's love. However, I didn't hear his idea for getting the party invitations out to skeptics and prideful worldly people. Jesus came for those who knew they were sick and he went here, there and everywhere to ENCOURAGE and WARN them of the new kingdom. So I think the book failed to make clear that there is a punishment for those who reject God's loving free gift of abundant and eternal life (John 10:10). Many continue to live in firm rejection of God's authority and obvious presence in creation. Despite the compelling archaeological and written evidence for the life of Christ, they either willingly resist or are distracted from truth. Finally, whether eternal torment or swift annihilation seems unclear in scripture, but what is clear is that the fallen (demons included) offer the wide path of destruction. God's free love was rejected by Satan and many angels in the form a rebellion. This rebellion likely has to do with Jesus' choice to redeem mankind. What is Satan's desire? Bell doesn't go there, but I will. He is the thief who has come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10)! So something about torment and God's abandoment of a soul seems to include a spiritually wicked transformation (Bell's mention of post-humans). Jesus said, “no one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other...” referring to the powers of this world. Thus he is called thief because he has stolen the power God gave humanity and caused many to worship evil rather that good, Satan rather than God. The good news is that Jesus has overcome Satan's power, abolished death by becoming one of us, and displayed the justice of God in his own resurrection. This is why we can place our trust in God! It is resurrection as Bell put it that makes “Friday turn to Sunday.” Now by the choice of our own free will we can receive God's kingdom and all its eternal ramifications. Love wins, but sadly some won't exist to know how much!

Love this!. Excellent book!!!

Nope!. I did not read this book but my bible teacher showed us a video of Pastor Rob Conway who talked about why Rob Bell is completely wrong and went over the main parts of the book. And then we wrote a research paper defending our faith in Jesus Christ. It's says straight up in the word of God what is the truth. It says to watch out for Teachers like Rob Bell who will twist the word of God. Satan is gonna use this. And it scars me for other people. Don't waste your time. I only say that someone should read this to read why he is wrong. Heaven and Hell are eternal. God is just and judgment will fall on those who oppose Him. That's it. God is love. He has given us a choice to serve him and live with him in eternity or to not serve him and burn in hell. Do not support Rob "robbing" Bell. Haha.

Moral. If "Love Wins" is NOT the correct interpretation of the New Testament, then the New Testament is immoral. (The Old Testament is so blatantly immoral that interpretations are irrelevant. Sorry if that makes you angry or uncomfortable, but when people ditch intellectual common sense for dogma they often become angry and uncomfortable at even the slightest hint of dissent.

Love DOES win!. After reading the online reviews first, and then reading the book, I can't help but believe the hyper-critical ones are written by people who didn't read the whole book! Only the hardest of "Christian" hearts could walk away from the words in this book with anger, or with admonishments that it is somehow dangerous. Those that choose to hold on to the age-old distorted vision of an angry vengeful God who is more bent on us being obedient, mindless automatons rather than His beloved children with whom He longs for fellowship have truly chosen to live in their own hell, and often drag many others down with them. There is nothing more truly demonic than using the Good News to frighten and coerce others into accepting such a twisted vision of the Kingdom. Love DOES win; we only have to choose it! To quote Christ, not only is "the Kingdom of God UPON us", it is in fact in no small degree, "upon US!!". If you don't believe it, I encourage you to visit Glide Church in San Francisco; you'll see the Kingdom of God in full swing, bursting with His unconditional love, joy, good works and acceptance.

Heres!. This book is blasphemy! He mocks a perfect and holy God.

Thank God for Heresy. Heretic!!! Love wins?! Turn or Burn is so much more effective. (That's sarcasm if you can't tell) This book is amazing. It is truly beautiful. Love is why Jesus came, not to judge the world but to save it! All of it, everyone! Not just Jews, not just Christians, but Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, and gays, lovers of pleasure, lovers of self, and lovers of money, people who are "good enough" and people who are not, people who have earned the party and people who don't deserve a party, the proud and the shamed. We all have our story, but God has a different story to tell.

Thanks. Thanks for jumping out on the limb Rob, and daring to wrap words around what you suspect may be true. By this time you have been sufficiently maligned by the "band of older brothers" who could never imagine just how amazing God's grace might actually be. Courageous … GREAT news. A story that we can tell passionately. Karl Ingersoll

Love Wins, Rob Bell. This book was a very disappointing read. Felt like a textbook of questions and the amplified addition made it even more so. Just a series of stories and very little scriptural back up. Few if any ideas on the afterlife. I would ask for my $ back if that were possible.....

Rob Bell has many ideas, unfortunately, they are only his own. One of the most important parts of this book is the preface where Bell states that there is no eternal place of torment. Since he claims to follow the Bible, I would like to know where he gets that idea. Bell has a catchy writing style but is rather amateur in that he constantly writes short, terse sentences and they usually are small questions. This isn't a book that provides many, if any, answers. While most of the questions are indeed Leading Questions, they lead to personal ideas, not ideas that can be found in the Bible. This text is designed to market the Bible in a way that everyone can make Jesus be whoever they want him to be, rather than the actual person he is.

It's about time!. A book like this is long overdue. Rob tackles questions about the Christian faith head on. I'll be reading this one again, even slower than the first time, to really let the content sink in.

Love Wins. People REALLY should read this book prior to commenting and comment on what it actually says and not just on what they think it says. It's a book about asking questions, some of those questions which have often been taboo. It explores the wide path of historical understanding of the issues rather than just parrotting the popular contempory views. It isn't intended to form a "new theology" but to open up a conversation which may cause us to question things that are long overdue a reconsideration. And his writing style is unique...it may not appeal to all, but it is how he communicates, and it effectively gets his thoughts accross. Truth isn't so fragile that it can't stand a 2nd look to question if we are sure that we know what we think we know. If there is a God in heaven, I hardly think he is shaking in his robes now that this book is available on iTunes (or in the bookstore for that matter), but may actually be relieved that finally SOMEBODY is questioning some of the assumptions that have taken on a type of dogma that does not reflect his actual character. And if this book is just another "fad" book, it will pass into obscurity like so many others. If it contains truth we need to examine, let's pray that it gets a decent hearing. And it is a great read.
