Buried Prey by John Sandford Book Summary

For twenty-five years the unsolved kidnapping of two young girls has haunted Minneapolis homicide detective Lucas Davenport. Today, the bodies have been found. Today, he returns to a crime—and a nightmare—darker than any before...

A block on the edge of the Minneapolis loop is being razed when a macabre discovery is made: two girls buried under a rotted old house. Lucas Davenport knows how long they’ve been there. In 1985, he was part of the manhunt to track down two kidnapped sisters. They were never found—until today. With the bodies discovered, Davenport has the chance to return to the crime that has haunted him for years. The deeper he probes, the more one thing becomes clear: It wasn't just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

Buried Pretty. I enjoyed reading this book as much as one can when theme rider of young girls.it was certainly well written and full of suspense.the author lived up to his reputation as a good writer.

Good and vintage Lucas Davenport. It was interesting to read about Lucas before he became a detective. Fast paced and full of that "edge" that makes the Prey novels fun.

Buried Prey. Another Sanford classic. Nothing better than Lucas Davenport on the hunt. Surrounded by his BCA team and getting the bad guy hard.

Another great book from John Sandford!. John Sandford is one of my favorite authors. I've read most of his Lucas Davenport books, and it seemed like Lucas was shifting as a character from an investigator to a manager. I was ok with that, because the Virgil Flowers series is also awesome - another great character. But I was happy to pick up this book and find Lucas back in the lead investigator's role. As usual, Sandford created a plot that kept me turning the pages rapidly - and eventually unable to put down the book. I highly recommend it!

Worth It. I've read all the Sandford novels. This one enters a new dimension by bringing up Davenport in his rookie years (as sort of a flashback). This book entertains without being irritating to do it. If you liked the other Prey books, you will like this one too. Buying it is a no-brainer.

Buried Prey. Sanford gives his loyal readers a glimpse into Davenport's early career. I devoured this book in a day and was pleasantly surprised by the hooks and twists. This is the best Sanford in the last four years, not because of the plot but because he adds new depth to known characters and connects them in experiences across a decade. Highly recommend.

Great installment. I have loved Lucas Davenport since reading the very first Prey novel. This installment was perfect- a horrendous crime, a crazed killer, moments of humor and hilarious banter, and the constantly working mind of our hero, Davenport. However, the prologue was a wonderful hook, taking all of us back to the beginning days of his career. It was really cool to be with Lucas as he met Del and the rest of the gang. These long term friends are with him until the end of another investigation and their relationship adds a touching element to the story. Prey fans will not be disappointed.

Amazing. I loved reading about the beginning of Lucas's career!

Simply awesome. Read about 1/2 the series, hey I'm a late starter! This book is awesome. Took about 4-5 hours to read, couldn't put it down!! Great story especially Lucas going back to patrol car days. Great book!

Buried Prey. Another great read by Sandford. Lucas Davenport chasing bad guys. Even after so many novels with the same characters, Sandford makes it fresh and enjoyable.

Buried Prey. Think this is the best one yet, and believe me, I've read them all!

Buried Prey. Action packed. Loved the story of the young Lucas Davenport.

Another great Sanford book. Love Sanford's books. This started off a little slow for me. Once it got going it was a great read.

Loved it!. Cool seeing Davenport as a newbie. Wish it had been a bit longer....and that I didn't have to wait so long for his next book ;)

A great read!. Since I've already read all of the authors current works, I had to dig back some. I really enjoyed the early Davenport. Never have been disappointed with this author. Always looking forward to the next book.

Nice ride, but wraps up a little too cleanly. This is my first foray into Sanford's "Prey" series. I picked up the book when it was a New York Times best seller. I'm a real fan of cop mysteries, so I dove right into this page turner. The Davenport character is interesting, although a bit too political for my taste. Several paragraphs in the book are devoted to espousing the author's anti-gun views through Davenport. Overall, "Buried Prey" is a good, satisfying read. It loses a star for its political pandering and wrapping up just a little too cleanly at the end. Well worth a read, though a bit pricey at $12.99.

Buried Prey. Very good, as with all of his ‘Prey’ series!

BURIED PREY. John Sanford + Lucas Davenport = A good read!

Good as all the series. Very well written

Good page turner. Fun, somewhat predictable crime novel that will keep you interested till the end.

Outstanding! (As always). Love all Sandford's work and the Prey books particularly. You will too.

Heart pounding. This is a riveting, heart pounding addition to his already great collection. I enjoyed every minute of it and couldn't put it down. My wonky regret is that I read it so fast!

Wonderful!. As usual, John Sanford has done it again. The Lucas Davenport Books are my favorite, and so far I love them all.

Very good. First book of his I have read. It was very good. I will read others by him.

Slow. Good characters, but a bit slow and plodding. No real surprises.

Buried prey. Excellent page turner, as usual. Enjoyed the humorous dialogues between Lucas and his colleagues.

Best so far!. By far the best book in the Pray serious...

One Problem. I've read all the Sandford books and have only one problem. There aren't more. Looking forward to the next Virgil Flowers offering, and can see more coming with the development of Letty. Put them out faster John.

The full Davenport. Sandford keeps Lucas Davenport fresh by introducing the reader to his protagonist as a rookie cop in this novel's first half flashback. With 30 years between crime and resolution it gives the author a wide field to play in. And as usual Sandford nails it.

Buried Prey. Vintage Sandford. All the action and immediacy of a "Prey" novel. Great read.

Buried Prey. Quick read, great change in pattern but still Davenport and gang excitement!

Buried Prey. Compelling story that once you get hooked captivates the reader to keep going

Excellent. One of his better books.

Buried Prey. I've stopped reading some authors in the past because they get to a point when they write a series where they get lazy in their writing and just depend on past success to sell books. This is not the case with John Sandford. Buried Prey is as good a read as the first books in the Prey series.

Buried Prey. If it was written by John Sandford, just read it. I've read all of the "Prey" series in order and every one is among the best novels of this genre out there. This one is no exception.

A Good One. I'll make this short: I've read all the Prey books (many twice) and this is one of the better ones, especially since we get really two stories in one book ( Past and present) tied to one sick, hatable killer. I enjoyed finally getting a glimpse into Lucas's early career and even a tiny bit of his childhood. Quite suspenseful and plausible. Compelling. A great read.

Good yarn. Easy read. Characters are believable and well constructed. End predictable but a few twists.

Another great read. ...from John Sandford This one was hard to put down

Five stars. Another "couldn't put it down" book!

Buried Prey. Typical John Sanford-written Lucas Davenport novel....simply outstanding in every way. Author humanizes the lead detective in a way no other mystery writer takes time to do. The story is both believable and fascinating at the same time. Lots of connections to long-held friends and law enforcement that enable a tough and determined Lucas Davenport to get his man in the end with personal strife and loss along the way. With his ability to write and connect readers to his characters with intriguing plot twists and timely dry humor and wit, I hope Sanford never stops writing and that Lucas Davenport never stops being a cop!

Can't wait for the next one!. My favorite author!
