The finest work of the greatest living author.. I firmly believe McCarthy is our greatest living author, and this is truly his most superior work. I would recommend it to anybody as long as you have good reading skills and have a strong stomach, as it is very, very violent.

A Masterpiece. The great American novel! To read this, is to have read one of the greatest stories ever told.

Cormac McCarthy has achieved something EPIC within the pages of this incredible book.. I read recently a quote on McCarthy that sums it up for any skepticism one might have on enjoying an epic gothic western, such as Prime Meridian. “Cormac McCarthy puts other American authors to shame” This is not an opinion in my mind, but a fact true to life. No matter your genre that you tend to fancy, no matter the style that you have clung to as a consumer of fiction... if you are an American in any sense (or just simply an occasional patron of fiction lit when your smart phone hasn’t completely engrossed your attentions) Blood Meridian will change your imaginings of the western front and have you rethinking mankind’s nature and what war brings into this world we live in. His landscape paints a masterpiece within the mind with a vocabulary unlike any other, yet I never felt a skip of comprehension, he is beyond masterful. I highly recommend any work by this author. I enjoy all kinds of reading material and I am definitely a genre fluid kind of girl, but this guy is my hero for giving me something to read that is gritty and at the same time full of meaning and a universal theme at root. Lord, I am done blabbering. Just know if you don’t read this, you are missing something grand!!

Perfect. Violent Bildungsroman in the Wild West

Excruciatingly wonderful. Seldom, if ever, have I read a story that has involved me as much as Blood Meridian. Reading it at night and alone and only a light on the pages was like an out of body experience. I can't imagine how this novel will transfer to the screen when the time comes but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Terrific. Great piece of literature

100 Words or Less. McCarthy knows now to take the edges of society and reduce them to mere animals. This book is brutal. The main character lurches along from one debasement to the next, and some scenes are so difficult to read, I felt a tiny bit nauseous. Yet, it’s McCarthy. What else do you expect? And in the end, this book is beautiful in a sort of wildlife safari way. Yes, there’s death and blood and heartlessness. But that is how the characters see themselves and the world around them. Like it or not, it has a way of drawing you in.

Get a thesaurus. This is not a quick, easy read. Your vocabulary will be tested.......and your Spanish.

Blood Meridian. Excellent book, very moving, complex. Cormac McCarthy is brilliant here as in many of his books.

Not bad...not great. Somewhat disappointed as i obviously had very high expectations. Good characters and good story, just not in the realm of "greatest book ever". Wouldn't be in my top 50. Not the easiest read either as it bogs down a bit in parts. Good, violent, western though.

Shock and awe. Blood Meridian is an astounding book. Violence is so commonplace it leaves one indifferent to it, but marks you. It is by no means an outstanding story, but it is written so well that it is truly a book I have thought much about during and after finishing. I had someone tell me this book would ruin the next book I read after, and it certainly was true in my case.

Masterpiece. One of the best pieces of American literature

Maybe I'm shallow or dullwitted.. But I did not really enjoy this novel. McCarthy seems more interested in showing off his vocabulary than telling a story. When he's not describing the desert or a mountain or a thunderstorm for the fortieth goddamn time, he's trying to shock the reader with over the top, graphic violence and horror. There really doesn't seem to be a point to this novel. I get it. We're evil and doomed and you know lots of pretty big descriptive words.

Enthralling. Challenging and inviting all in one, McCarthy’s prose flow sweetly like a fine whiskey over the tongue with a strong bite. It’s a liquid quicksilver magic, both enchanting and dangerous at once. Truly a masterwork.

Holden. This is the best book I've ever read. The closest comparison I can come up with for this novel is a melding of the Old Testament and Apocalypse Now in the setting of the American Western Frontier. I guess you might call it a western, but the book encapsulates the brutality of the human condition on both an individual and societal level, applicable to any culture in history. This is McCarthy's best work...I think one of the best works written in the 20th century.

Overrated. Very disappointed, story seemed disjointed and ended with no real investment.

Another banger by McCarthy!!!. A terrifying vision of the old west.

One of most unforgiving books I've ever read.... I've muscled through some incredibly tough books in the past but nothing yet has come close to the beauty and harshness of this novel. It's a black-hole of tale with no payback, redemption, or light. I don't regret reading it at all, but I'll never re-read it and I could never recommend it to anyone in good conscience.

epic. in all honesty, the greatest american novel of all time

He never sleeps, The Judge. He is dancing, dancing And he says that he will never die.. This is now considered my new favorite book. Never have I ever read a book that gave me an experience like this one had. The prose are so lyrical and poetic that it will put you in a hypnotic flow once you get in to the book and figure out its rhythm it’s almost like a trance that it will be hard to put it down. Such powerful writing. So much violence and he makes it sound poetic. This book is a must read.
