The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank Book Summary

THE DEFINITIVE EDITION • Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, the remarkable diary that has become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.

Updated for the 75th Anniversary of the Diary’s first publication with a new introduction by Nobel Prize–winner Nadia Murad

“The single most compelling personal account of the Holocaust ... remains astonishing and excruciating.”—The New York Times Book Review

In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.

Amazing Book. The first time I read an Anne Frank diary was actually a book copy but the Play write. I kinda want to know what other people went through in WWII

Anne Frank. I love this book. It shows the daring journey of a 13 year old girl who is Jewish during WWll. I actually went to the local bookstore and bought it. I have read the German version as well. She was a truly amazing person who was lucky enough for her father to find her diary and publish it. A MUST READ for 10 and up. P.S- I am ten and still love this book. Amazing book!❤️💛💚💙💜

awesum. reading this book in class and LUV it

Amazing but... I had to read this book as an assignment for my English class and my mother would not let me get the hard copy. I was very surprised that iBooks had it because no other website had it. I would give tis 5 stars but it changed some phrases which made it extremely hard for me and my group to talk about the book and answer the comprehension questions. Other wise I loved the book very good quality. Also I love how you are able to highlight words and phrases. I also loved how you could mark multiple pages at once it is especially helpful if you are like me and have to read up to a certain part every week.Amazing , awesome, very well put together!!

No. No, just no. I had to read it for school. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! It sooo bad! I hated it. Boring and not entertaining!

What have we learned?. What an amazing form of art of intellectual insight of things around this youthful woman and of herself: Anne Frank. Extremely very well articulately written..great inspirations for future writers and of youths in our times...you are not alone. From one side of the other world to the next, all youths feel and see things almost as if they were philosopher..seeing things as they truly are. Great expectations are more to come for those who want to improve on literature, confidence, self expression, an educated person like Anne noticed when one admits when one's doing wrong and wanting to change for better. Her legacy is of great inspiration to me as it should be for the world and improve on our own selves and to avoid all kinds of wars ...starting with the wars and tempest that starts with our inner self. Great! Awesome! Anne Peace to you and family! Up in heaven and earth: GIVE PEACE A CHANCE so we won't miss out on extraordinary and the uniqueness of people such as Annes...it's time for change: lets give PEACE that chance...lets all try it but lets do it together ;)

Loved this book Highly recommend. One of the best books I have ever read about the holocaust. I highly recommend everyone to read this book it will change your life.

You should read this. This is an incredible, very inspirational book that takes us into Anne's thoughts and,my favorite, the secret annex.

LOVE IT!!!!. So amazing it took me to her home to her mid as soon as I opened the book, It was so amazing and I love it so so so so so so much!! I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR EVERYONE

Enjoyed. Phenomenal

Very meaningful.. This book means a lot to me it’s very saddening that a girl Anne’s age died so young and she had such a unique perspective of the world I wish I could have an imagination like hers she acted like a little adult and for her age you can tell she was very mature she was such a gorgeous young girl so of course she had many admirers I have my own diary just like Anne’s and I hope one day my children will publish my diary for me I’ve been threw allot of tough times and I hope someone in this world can tell my story and maybe I can influence or inspire someone just like Anne inspired me to always pay attention to the world around you cause you never know when you won’t be around to see it (and the person who said this book is stupid is very rude and I hope you know that the girl that wrote this book died at 16 and this book is showcasing all she went through so you saying it’s stupid is very unkind so I advise you too go take a good look at yourself and ask yourself "am I a good person" and I’m sure you will find out that you are not . Yours truly,Alice L.

So inspiring!. This book was amazing! It really captured the spirit of a young girl growing up in such a detestable world. I really loved how as you read on you could really see her grow up. I felt very connected and understanding of Anne considering I am also an adolescent of the age 14. Listening to her troubles and interest reminded me of myself in a way. Though i never went through such troubles as she did in her lifetime, I did still have the same feelings and wonders she did. After all, Anne still was a teenage girl no matter what happened to her. Her insight on the people and events around her continued to mature as she wrote over the years. It was amazing, to me, how one is forced to grow up so fast in such a tough situation. Anne Frank was a very brave girl with an amusingly interestingly character, and after reading her thoughts on life and on accepting yourself and others I've come to start thinking about myself, and how I've lived my life, and have started to change my own insight, as i was inspired by Anne's thoughtful personality. May Anne Frank and all the others who died during the horrific occurrences of World War II, as well as anyone who has ever passed on trying to help others in need, or by the cruelty of others when they deserved nothing but love and a good future, live on in history and in the hearts of all of us who will miss them greatly and will forever remember the sacrifices they made and the courage they carried, even throughout all their pain. You shall be greatly missed. : )

My Honest Opinion.. I am currently on page 778/993 and I love it, but at some points I just can’t help myself from tearing up. I am currently learning German as my second language and I hope to be able to read and comprehend the original German version. I decided to read this before it was assigned in school, I doubt they would have assigned a book such as this during at-home studies but you get the point, I have used Anne’s pieces as inspiration of my own and It turn out to be some of my best writing yet. (I’m known to be somewhat of a good writer amongst my peers and am frequently looked to for advice) but when I wrote my story, oh my, did it astonish me– I’ve never written like that before and it’s all thanks to a certain 13 year old Jewish girl named Anne! I may have gotten off topic a bit, but for my review to make sense I believe you need to know how this book affected me (and Is still affecting me). There is truly no point in this book that I didn’t love with all my heart, every page and paragraph you’ll find yourself immersed in the world of the Secret Annex, and what the experience of living during Nazi reign was really like for the millions of Jews affected by the Hitler and the rest of the Nazi party. This is and I believe will always be my favorite book of all time. Yours, C.

Amazing!. We read the play version in class so it got me interested so I picked this for independent reading and i’m absolutely in love with it! Would recommend for Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers

The Diary of a Young Girl. For those who do not know their history, ( and that seems to be quite a lot you out there ). This is probably one of the greatest nonfiction books ever of the 20th century. A personal account of the price that's paid when governments exercise totalitarian control over the populace. The Nazi regime in Germany during the 30's & 40's is as close to state sponsored evil that's ever happened. Rouge terrorism today is no where near what happened back then, the difference was that Germany had it's own terror squads and a well developed and equipped Army, Navy, and Air Force to back it all up. In early 1941 the whole world was at the threshold of a fascist ideology of world domination. This one young girl's account of what happened to her and her family is without rival, and should be required reading for any person young or old alike!!

This book. This book is great. It makes you feel her pain, her joy, and her sadness. This book is very helpful to learn about the history of the Halicaus and is very intresting. This is a middle school read.

the diary of Ann Frank. I like this book! It is cool because this really happened to her. This book is what Ann Frank wrote ( no author made it up) I think a lot of people will like this book!

Boring and agitating. As I read this book I started to dislike it more and more. As the book went on the only thing she talked about was her problems and I’m not a phycologist an dI don’t care about her problems. If I didn’t have to read this for school I would have stopped on the first page!

Great piece of writing😄😄. I loved this diary. It was heartfelt and expertly written. It made me feel how Anne was truly feeling. I makes you realize how small your problems really are. Overall: Wonderful read!!

Perfect for a Diary. I watched the animated film on YouTube, and I have a diary I had on my birthday, but didn’t start writing till Aug. 6, 2022. I told it I would have comfort with it and support and called it Anne Jackson (aka A.J for short) but wanted to write in it for things that would happen, and probably skip a day or two for more writing. So please, just watch the animated film and get started.

Awesome. Dis book is a really Gud one. It tells yuh bout the history And the bout the person who wrote dis book it's really Gud

Loved it!!. It was an interesting story about a young girl, I feel so bad for her. Some day I'll be a strong writer just like her.

A Mind-Opening Read. It amazes me how articulate and communicative Anne was through her writings. I really appreciated being able to catch a glimpse of her life.

pricey. I payed $6 for 20pages? But I absolutely adore Anne!

Mind blown. A wonderful story of a teenage girl who might not know it but we all have a little bit of Anne frank in us but her courage is unlike anyone else's. Thank you for sharing this with the world. May your message guide the free world.

Difficult to read. I never read this as a child, so I thought I would read it now. Being a teenage girl myself once, and raising a teenage girl, this was hard for me to read given all the drama and self absorbed writings in Anne’s diary (brought me back to those self absorbed times myself). I’m sad that Anne never got to grow up and I’m sadder still that people can be so evil and inflict atrocities on those we feel are different or aren’t “us”. The only reason for the three stars was because it was so hard to keep reading the thoughts of a teenage girl. Ha.

Anne Frank. This book changed a big part of history and is amazing

IT HAS IT ALL. Understand the past, enables us to deal with the cruel communists/socialits monsters of today.

Smh. Don't read it unless you have to... This is coming from who likes to read dramas, gossip, magazines, mysteries, and humorous books. Wasn't my "cup of tea." not fit for a teen like me.. Some parts were interesting but 92% was BORING.

Sad story. Such a sad way to live but she grew and thrived. Thankful for people that would risk their lives to help others.

I read the abridged version (not his one) and was pretty good. read title then this... Some parts are awkward, but this is REALISTIC, not made-up. So, if you're not going t oread it for the sexulality parts, please do read it.

Wow (please read). I am a 13 year old girl who loves history and poetry, also I keep a diary, in honor of Anne, I named her Frankie. Frankie has kept lots of secrets for me, and a few of my own poems are kept in Frankie. Anne’s diary, (aka Kitty) has inspired me to write my own book, titled, “Hiding from the Holocaust Monster” About a girl named Maple with similar interest of Anne and I. As I was reading comments, I read one saying, “Worst book of all time” And, “Too boring, skip to the point.” People, Anne couldn’t skip to the point! It’s a diary!! Not a fictional book that some girl wrote up!!! Yes it’s depressing in some parts, but that is HISTORY!!!!! Lots of terrible as well as wonderful things happened in the past. It had to. All of us Americans need to appreciate what brave men and women DIED for! If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be FREE!!! Happy Veterans Day, God bless, Tatum Tipp, J.A. (Junior Author)

The Diary of a Young Girl. Tragic

:'(. I hate this book. All it has is stupid little entries about boys and that stuff. JUST GET TO THE POINT!!!!!

Love it as much as I love my own mother!!. I'm am 11 years old and I had to wait till 8th grade to read this book! I couldn't wait I had to read it! Ounce I read the whole thing I knew it was my type of books and to know it came from a real girl and to see how she grew up and how she lived astonished me I will never find a better book in my life ever.

Loved it. I had to read it for school and I loved it! The beginning is a little boring but when they go into hiding it gets interesting
