The Affair by Lee Child Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Everything starts somewhere. For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997.

A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A cover-up. A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover to find out everything he can and then to vanish. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, Reacher meets local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux, who has a thirst for justice and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust each other, they reluctantly join forces. Finding unexpected layers to the case, Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission—and turn him into a man to be feared.

Don’t miss Lee Child’s short story “Second Son” and a sneak peek of his new novel, A Wanted Man, in the back of the book.

The affair. Great book! Good story and great characters. At times I couldn't put it down. I would defenatly recommend it. Enjoy!

The affair. Won't be disappointed!

The Affair. Simply dull! Very weak plot and character development. Read entire book thinking it might get better. It never managed to make the turn.

A fun read, riddled with questions and suspenseful to the very end!. Another Child masterpiece! One of his best,

The Affair. Excellent storytelling. A real page turner. Characters well developed to hold your interest.

The affaire. Good book, the ending required more work

Good But Not Great. Not his best but still worthwhile.

The Afair. Great read, trust the Gov. 100% to do what's best for the Gov.

The Affair &The Second Son. Lee Child & Reacher ALWAYS leave you 'reaching' for more!

Great book. I must have read about 10 Reacher novels now and this was one of the better ones (and they're all good). Great read.

Good. Enjoyed the book. Although a bit predictable.

The Affair. This story has many unexpected twists and turns, leading to the ultimate Reacher success!

Okay but did not keep me drawn in. Great ending but it was kind of predictable. Didn't keep me drawn in.

Great. Not the best in the series but in the top 5.

well done. Great Jack Reacher Drama for you to enjoy!

The Affair. Don't pick up a Lee Child Reacher novel unless you want to be hopelessly hooked for life.

Lee Child. Always exciting!

Great Book!!!. Look forward to reading the next Reacher book in the wonderful series.

One of Child’s Best. Pure Reacher. Excellent story and well written.

Here's how it all started.... Great prequel. Great author. Great read! Jack Reacher is a fascinating character.

Great. Awesome Reacher adventure and close to the best.

Classic Reacher. I was worried that we might not see any more of Jack Reacher after the explosion a couple books back. I am glad to see that he will still being putting us on the edge of our seats. I could not stop reading this book. When at work everyone thought I was working on my iPad when in fact I was reading Reacher. Now I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Not excellent!. It is not great and even some parts are pretty boring. Unnecessarily long too..

The Affair! Hard to get through. Very long and at times confusing. I read ALOT and this is the first review I felt compelled to write. Maybe if I was hip to the military lingo I would have enjoyed it more. I hate when I have to fight to get through books. I read for enjoyment.

Another great one. This one is a fast read, and although I figured this one out, which surprised me since I am always left guessing. Still great and keep up the great work Lee.

My favorite. I just reread The Affair. It’s your best in my opinion.. You need to bring Devaro back. They work well together! Thanks for my favorite character. Jack would have made a great Marine. Jake K

Fantastic as usual!. Lee Child is one of the best story tellers of our time! Jack Reacher is someone women love & men want to be! Can't wait for the next one! Don't start this unless you have a day to finish it ~ couldn't put it down!

Good book. Good book

Insanely Massive. Pounding thick through veins turning them to garden hoses, this book pushed my limits the way Reacher pushes the limits of a city’s townsfolk and lady cops. A big league ripper from start to finish

The Affair. Another good Reacher yarn. Struggled a little at the end, but still five stars. Reacher rides again 👍.

jppkuk. I HdarbwdarQ😗😌Jojouilkuilp

Good book. This tied up a lot of loose ends in the Reacher stories. It was a good read.

Army Life. Mister Child’s view of the army is somewhat bent. Hopefully it is only for the book. However, when it was force reduction time back in the 90’s, it was brutal. Many good soldiers got the boot because of Force Reduction, as they called it. I retired in 92, thank god, but some of my friends got the boot. We loved our service as we loved our country.

The Prequel. This should have been the first book written but here we are. We finally get to hear why Reacher is the way he is. As always, too much description of stuff but thank goodness it is written in the First Person. When Child writes as Reacher in the Third Person it is way worse. Oh well, on to the next one.

The Affair. Have always really liked Lee Child's books but this one was too ridiculous. The hero goes around killing people instead of bringing them to justice. Very, very disappointed!!

Atco1. Well done. Impossible but enjoyable story line. I just hope that somewhere in the world there might be a real Jack Reacher. Hood read

Great!. I have read all of the Jack Reacher books by Lee child. I always enjoy them but this is one of the best.

Brings you full circle. I m glad he finally wrote this book.I have been reading all his books + now I know why he left the army + been drifting ever since.Great read

Awesome. Another bullseye for childs

Another Exciting Reacher Novel. Excellent book. Lee Child holds your interest like few are able to do. I look forward to his next project.

Another Reacher winner. Jack Reacher is one of my favorite characters in books today. He is smart, funny and tough. Lee Child does an excellent job brining him to life. This was defiantly one of the best Reacher books yet

The Affair. In all of the Reacher books it referred to his leaving the Army, but never the specifics...now we know. This book, as well as all the previous Reacher escapades, was great...it twisted and turned till the very end! A great read! Can't wait for the next one!

One of the best in the series. Child delivers a gem with this prequel to the Reacher series. A must read for fans and a great intro for those who have yet to discover the addictive personality of Jack Reacher.

The Affair. I always enjoy the way Lee Child weaves the story. You know things are not as they first appear, and you're never dissatisfied with the ending. This book gives you the beginning of the Jack Reacher saga.....how he came to be such an interesting character. You won't be disappointed.......the ending of an era and the beginning of a new life.

The End of The Beginning. A great story of how Reacher moves from soldier to civilian in the only way he knows how. His way.

The Affair or a Planned Meeting. Interesting and intriguing story, but a little strung out story. Parts can be a fast read, other parts, you’ll want try read a little slower to catch all the nuisances. All in all, good read.

Affair. Too much political correctness. Rednecks are portrayed as mean and dirty, while blacks are portrayed as nice and clean.

Excellent!. Another Lee Child masterpiece! I've read all of the jack Reacher series and this was one of the best. Child gives us a glimpse into Reacher's past and helps Reacher fans understand where the Jack Reacher we all love came from. I couldn't put it down!

The affair. This is a prequel so old readers of child will find answers to questions about how reacher became so nomadic and free of possessions. For reacher killing bad guys is permissible in some implied sense of justice. Reacher was an MP but due to his mental acuity in pulling odd facts into cogent wholes he seems to collect higher echelon enemies. Child is a good read and this is another worth reading. Especially for an ex-MP.

Thrilling. Lee Child does it again! Another perfectly crafted entertainment. Novel for novel this is the best crime sequence being written. Reacher is a great character, not just a generic hero. This one flashes back to Reacher's last case as a military police officer, the one that ends his career.

Hi. Book was good keep you guess till the end not five stars but a good read overall :)
