The Drop by Michael Connelly Book Summary

In his fierce search for a new case, Detective Harry Bosch discovers a killer hiding behind suspicious DNA evidence -- and a political conspiracy that could destroy the Los Angeles Police Department.

DNA from a 1989 rape and murder matches a 29-year-old convicted rapist. Was he an eight-year-old killer or has something gone terribly wrong in the new Regional Crime Lab? The latter possibility could compromise all of the lab's DNA cases currently in court.

Then Bosch and his partner are called to a death scene fraught with internal politics. Councilman Irvin Irving's son jumped or was pushed from a window at the Chateau Marmont. Irving, Bosch's longtime nemesis, has demanded that Harry handle the investigation.

Relentlessly pursuing both cases, Bosch makes two chilling discoveries: a killer operating unknown in the city for as many as three decades, and a political conspiracy that goes back into the dark history of the police department.

The Drop. Well written moving crime and human drama.

The drop. Excellent thriller. Well written, may be his best yet. Tightly written and filled with innuendo and politics. Connolly at his best. Ranks with James Lee Burke and Stieg Larson for intricate plot twists and turns.

Excellence again!. Connelly is the best, and proves it with every new release. This one is up to his high standard, and my high expectations. Interesting plot, couldn't put it down. Hate to finish these books. Wish they were 2,000 pages! How long do I have to wait for his next release?

Probably the best mystery writer currently writing. Seriously well written, hard hitting mystery, with long complicated plot lines, which manage to come together in a satisfying conclusion. Still manages to keep it real.

Waiting for the final connect. Very good story and solid read. I kept waiting for the two storylines to come together better but it didn't happen. Otherwise a interesting read albeit grim at some places.

One of his finest. Harry Bosch is back with 2 interesting cases. The stories are tightly written, with enough red herrings to satisfy any mystery fan. But the real value comes in the wisdom and understanding of Harry Bosch and, presumably, Mr Connelly. You will be rewarded with the time spent reading this book. It is not just fluff,

The drop. Couldn't put it down.almost seems like a true story

Fantastic!. The Drop, being the first solo Bosch novel in three years does not disappoint. Much like Connelly's previous novel The Fifth Witness, The Drop's narrative allows for some wonderful character moments, often where our hero is tested emotionally and professionally. Facing forced retirement while juggling two cases, one seeped in history and one in high jingo, Bosch juggles them both like an artist, all the while dealing with a middling partner and old friends whose stripes are changing. Bosch also struggles to provide attention and guidance to his young daughter Maddie (herself becoming quite the character) while finding something for himself. Bosch sees the light at the end of the tunnel and realizes his priorities are divergent, leading him to ponder one of the major themes of The Drop: why do what he does anymore? Suffice it to say, Bosch gets all the motivation he needs. This is a wonderful entry in the Bosch series and has me eager for the 25th novel, The Black Box.

EXCELLENT AS ALWAYS. I get tired of finding obvious proofreading or editing errors in books; therefore, I have begun making a note of such errors in those books. On occasion I also write a note if I discover an error in a book due to writers' lack of knowledge or poor plotting. I MADE NO SUCH NOTES IN THIS BOOK. Michael Connelly consistently produces a good read as well as excellent writing. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hairy Harry. Long time fan of Harry Bosch. Always like the stories. This one, however, is the best I've read, period. I won't get into details - will just highly recommend this book instead.

Another Great One. I saw many reviews disappointed in this story and noting they thought the two cases Harry was working were somehow going to be connected. A cold case and a fresh politically charged case; it was evident they would not be connected. I thought this was another well written Bosch story with two evolving cases. Gotta love High Jingo. Well done.

The Drop. No one of his best.

Can't wait. Just got it and hope it's good:)

Not bad, not great. I just don't understand why two completely separate cases needed to run parallel in this book.... I was waiting the whole time for them to come together in some great connolly twist the way he used to do it in earlier stories - but that is too much to hope for recently...

The Drop. Expected more substance... Not one of his best. For me...

Another great read. The Drop has Bosch working a wrenching cold case with lots of twists, mainly in how Harry reacts to others involved or working the case with him. Also good news in we see him working a new case at the same time. One that will have far reaching consequences. Didn't want to put it down, seeing some new facets in Harry Bosch.

The Drop. This is one of the best works to come from Connelly involving H. Bosch ever. It's well written with appropriate twists and the main character's emotions and thoughts are all correctly colored in reality in terms of how they are expressed in relation to the development of the plot. The ending is NOT expected but still seems to be the correct action in terms of the Plot's Exit Strategy. Kudos: Michael Connelly...

Hmmm...so so. I have enjoyed many of his books and this one was just average. The cases were interesting yet forgettable. The parallel cases felt more like a Law & Order episode where the cops follow the easily-found clues to solving the case. The subplot of the political landscape of the LAPD and how the "good" guys were a little too much like the "bad" guys was really underdeveloped. It relied too heavily on you remembering Bosch's past partnerships and their relationships to really have the maneuvering resonate on any emotional level. Still, its an enjoyable read even though it does not tax your brain overmuch.

Morning N minioii ok ion call. Happyimii yes k is Kiki ikik I mmother’s. Kimnkakm I know you use it

Hooray for Michael Connelly. Once again Mr. Connelly delivers a great Bosch story and leaves this reader breathlessly waiting for the next. Well done!

Another masterpiece. Michael Connelly continues to provide the reading populace with evidence that he is a genius of this genre. The Drop also proves that Connelly still has the ability to create literary masterpieces and entertain readers. As I was nearing the end of the book, a slight depression descended upon me as I realized that I would soon be left with an unfulfilled addiction and it will be too long before I get my next fix.

Amazing once again!. Harry Bosch always delivers because Michael Connelly's characters never fail.......detail,suspense, and read- it-in-one sitting writing that you just don't find much of anymore......but don't make this your first Harry Bosch book....make it your last..until the next one comes out....read them from Black Ice on.....

Excellent. Great suspense

The Drop is riveting. I hate to use a cliche to describe my experience but it is is much how it was. I couldn't put the iPad down. This was Michael Connely at his best.

Great read!. Michael Connolly at his best. I couldn't put it down,

Typical Michael Connelly. Fast-paced, "live on the razor's edge" excitement! Plot twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat and not wanting to stop reading. Harry Bosch does not disappoint with his tenacity and passion for finding the truth for those that need a voice. Another Michael Connelly hit!

Terrific Again. Great read! We love Harry.

A real disappointment!. I am a big Michael Connelly fan and love the Harry Bosch series, but this definitely wasn't worth the time spent to read it or the money spent to buy it. Two separate stories run concurrently and one story proved to be particularly gruesome and graphic. I read the entire book waiting for the plots to intersect or interrelate somewhere along the line which never happened. To add insult to injury the book ended as though the last chapters had been literally torn out.....literally a rip off. Sorry Michael, this was definitely not one of you better efforts.

Great read. One of the best I have read so far. Janet

Always Good. Nice pace - not too fast - interesting plot twists (as always) Harry is one of the all-time great characters to follow.

The Drop. Michael Connelly at his best. This is not deep reading but it is excellent entertainment and a REALLY good investigation yarn. You will like it. Ben Cooley

A Case of High Jingo!. Having read all of MC's books, I was just a tad disappointed with the last couple of Bosch books. Just slightly. But, I felt this one was much more like the Bosch of Angel's Flight and Concrete Blonde. The way Connelly lays it out, all the pieces, with the one thing still missing that keeps gnawing at Harry. And, to combine two cases in one book, gave it a little bonus. I look forward to read about what happens next...until me meet again, Harry.

Awesome book. Kept me interested the whole time. Another great Harry Bosch novel. Great twists to the story...like always! Can't wait for the next installment!!!

9.99boycott. Boycott overpriced books.

I Want My Money Back!,. Harry and I go way back...but Connelly mailed this one in......not worth the time to read much less the money.

Another solid story. Connelly nailed another one! Depth of characters, a great story, great buildup

The Drop. Great read.

Another super Connelly effort. Opening a Harry Bosch novel is like slipping into a comfortable old shoe -- you know exactly what you're getting into. Yet somehow he always manages to give the story a new twist, so you never get the idea he's just going through the motions with a familiar character.

The drop. Harry Bosch is a righteous dude!

The Drop. Great and enjoyable read! I'm never disappointed by a MC book

Nope never again. This was my first Michael Connelly book. I have say I was very disappointed. It had little depth, no twists and turns and left a lot of loose ends. Sorry don't think I will pick up another one of his books.

The Drop. Top shelf story that you cannot put down. The writing, characters, and story are impeccable.

The Drop. This was a well written and complex plot. I enjoyed the characters insights and the realistic ending.

The Drop. Another gem from a master

Thé drop. Veryvgood

Enfin un retour en force de Bosch. Excellente intrigue, on en veut d'autres comme ça.

Among His Best. A great story! The first I've read on my iPad after my Kindle packed in. One has to wonder if the author has inside knowledge of the LAPD and if the internal politics are truly depicted in his Bosch novels. I think this story will be very difficult to better!

The Drop. Haven't read books in years....but this tale along with a few other I've read lately have made me a real fan...well done... It suited me and gave me a chance to think along...appreciate the writer's talent. I'm going to download another one.. Right now !

The Drop. I have read other Michael Connelly books and enjoyed this one as much as The Lincoln Lawyer and The Reversal. It was suspenseful and kept me guessing. I did find the ending left me hanging a bit, wanting more of a conclusion however am certainly recommending this book to my friends!

Son meilleur depuis longtemps.. J'ai adoré. Moins techniques que les derniers avec Haller. Connelly parvient à redonner du souffle au personnage de Bosch; et toujours, une touche d'actualité (la corruption).

The Drop. Very nice easy read.... And it held you...Looked forward to reading it every night.

The Drop. Typical Connelly page turner! Once you start, you can't stop until the last page.
