Monday Mornings Book Reviews
Monday Mornings by Sanjay Gupta Book Summary
Every time surgeons operate, they're betting their skills are better than the brain tumor, the faulty heart valve, the fractured femur. Sometimes, they're wrong. At Chelsea General, surgeons answer for bad outcomes at the Morbidity and Mortality conference, known as M & M. This extraordinary peek behind the curtain into what is considered the most secretive meeting in all of medicine is the back drop for the entire book.
Monday Mornings, by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, follows the lives of five surgeons at Chelsea General as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings, often in front of their peers at M & M. It is on Monday mornings that reflection and introspection occurs, usually in private. It is Monday Mornings that provides a unique look at the real method in which surgeons learn - through their mistakes. It is Monday Mornings when, if you're lucky, you have a chance at redemption.

Monday Mornings. Dr Gupta is a true renaissance man. I admire him. This book is as exceptional as its author. Thanks for the intelligent entertainment.
More than just medical stories. This book is about life ... Living it well. The medical stories are just the background for the real story. Awesome and well told!
Exceptional. Having heard and seen Dr. Gupta on TV, I had no idea of his literary prowess. This was a great - no, terrific - read, and I humbly encourage others to do the same. Read it. Doctors are human too. Thank you Dr. Gupta!
An accurate look inside the surgical world. Too often, medical fiction deals in hyperbole, with obscure diagnoses, larger than life characters, and endings that seem too pat. Dr. Gupta has drawn us not only into the minds of surgeons, but also the living entity that is a hospital with all of its strengths and vulnerabilities. The M and M he describes is fortunately morphing into more multidisciplinary approaches to understanding error and harm. Yet he is dead spot on that no matter what the eventual determination of root cause, every one of us who has picked up a scalpel has that moment of doubt as to whether we could have done better. The act of surgery, throughout history, has been a controlled assault of one human upon another, yet with the intent to heal rather than harm. Dr. Gupta has beautiful outlined the psychological aspects of how physicians deal with this incongruent fact. I am recommending it to all my medical students. Harry C. Sax, MD, FACS Professor and Vice Chair of Surgery Cedars Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles, CA
Gripping. From reading the preview, it seems to be a gripping read so far. I've pre-ordered my copy.
Monday Mornings. Recommended by my librarian. Certainly did not disappoint with this couldn't stop reading book. Hope Dr. Gupta will write more fiction soon.
Loved it!. Great book, couldnt put it down!
Can't post a review with fewer than 3 stars?!!?. Oddly, this review wont post with the I think there may be a filter in use here, so I'll avoid the words I want to use and say that the whole thing reads like an eighth-grader's mid term essay, from the bad analogies to the terrible descriptives... I will read almost anything, but had to force myself to finish this god-awful load of garbage. Really, it's THAT BAD.
Wow!. Couldn't put down the book. Loved the characters, the story line and details. Can we get a sequel? PLEASE!!!!! Highly recommend this book!
Thanks.. As an invasive cardiologist, I too have my cases I have learned from. Thanks for reminding me, i am only human. I try to do my best!
Thank you, Dr. Gupta. Read this book, y'all! A must for all Healthcare Professionals. Recenter yourself and enjoy doing it.
Monday Mornings. An entertaining read about the happenings in a large metropolitan hospital, including the mistakes made by well-intentioned surgeons. Those mistakes are the grist for the mill of "Monday Mornings", a peer-reviewed recounting of mistakes made and what can be learned from them. Wasn't too thrilled with some of the soap-opera aspects of the medical staff's lives, but there was enough thoughtful insights and plot twists to hold one's interest.
Great Read!. Well written, lovely story. Read it in 5 hrs. Loved all the characters.
What's the point?. Do not recommend. Ever heard a friend tell a joke that has no punch line?
First 72 pages. The first 72 pages are captivating enough to convince me to buy the book. Well written, well developed characters, and interesting plot.
Compelling. Well written and very interesting. Great job Dr. Gupta!!!
Monday mornings. I work in a large hospital and this is in sync with the under currents I have always felt existed. None of us are free from the stresses of the outside world even though ours is such an all consuming one, sometimes we feel we exist differently than others. This shows the humanness of even neurosurgeons, at the end the simple things of life, a leaf, a child's laugh, an autumn evening are the beautiful things in life. Thank you Dr Gupta for this compelling read. Joyce RPh
Good read, not my favorite though .. I guess I'm just used to reading big name author novels.
Great!!. Awesome read.. I couldn't put it down.
