Ties That Bind by Carolyn Arnold Book Summary

Grab a badge and a gun and strap in for an absolutely gripping ride that’s “full of suspense from the beginning to the end…” (Readers Abode)

She could feel him watching her… Though every time she turned to look, there was no one there. The rest of the world thought she was going crazy—until it was too late.

When Laura Saunders is found strangled with a man’s necktie, Detective Madison Knight is assigned the case. Her sergeant at the Stiles Police Department wants her to conclude it was an isolated incident and move on with the investigation, but Madison’s not the type to cave under pressure. She’s haunted by certain unexplainable clues at the crime scene, including the presence of a mysterious photograph. Madison believes the picture may somehow tie into the murder, but before she can dig into it, another woman’s body is discovered in a local park. Heather Nguyen was also murdered with the same brand of necktie that had been used on Laura.

On the surface, there doesn’t seem to be anything beyond the way they were killed that connects the women. But as Madison delves into the lives of the victims, she unravels a web of deceit and betrayal and lays bare decades of deadly family secrets. Edging closer to the truth, Madison’s quite sure at least one more woman is slated to die. But can Madison piece together all the clues in time to save her?

A gripping crime thriller full of heart-pounding twists. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, J.D. Robb, and Lisa Regan.

Ties that Bind. Didn't find it worth my time.

Ties that bind. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Madison Knight is such a real character as are the other people in this story. Looking forward to read the next book in the series.

Ties That Bind. Easy to read, not too much suspense, good twist.

So-So. As an avid reader, and have read Ms. Arnold's works before, but this novel is quite confusing. A little wordy, and not much in the way of clues to keep me guessing or that interested. I find myself rereading passages as the way it's written, it's hard to tell who said what. The story was interesting, and I only kept reading to find out whodunnit. As a woman, I cannot simply cannot stand how the main character hits, pinches and punches her partner simply because she's a woman and he's not. For a character who is supposed to be a "woman's libber" to be physical against anyone is horrible, but to justify actions because she's a woman sets equal rights back.

Ties that bind. Great characters, solid plot and an excellent book!

Arrest the Right Guy. Good plot, flows well and hard to put down - it keeps you captivated to the twist ending. The story line involves identical twins ... one good and one evil.

Ties That Bind. Thanks for a real book. The humanness of the characters was fun. The bantering was real! I stayed up all night reading this book. After a good nights sleep I will read another one!!! It kept me guessing to the end. Great book!

Ties That Bind. Loved the book. Usually I figure who did it but not this book. Good job. Can’t wait to read my on your books. And will recommend then to everyone.

Good read. Enjoyed the plot and the characters.

Ties that Bind. Excellent police procedural book. Captures the life on and off duty of police officers really well, I say this as a former police officer of 21 years. Do yourself a favor and read this book.

Edge of seat read. Wonderful edge of seat read. Excited to learn more about Madison and company.

Ties that bind. Great read! Fast paced with good characterization.

Great book!. I love Arnold! Another whodunnit with a twist at the end! Stayed up late with this one.

Ties That Bind. Ties That Bind Carolyn Arnold Mystery, Detective, Police Procedural 79,900 Words Rating 4.0 our of 5.0 posted 12/9/15 When a murder victim is found with a tie wrapped around her neck it's filed as an isolated incident. But when a second victim is found murdered with the same brand of tie Detective Madison Knight strongly suspects a serial killer is at work and anticipate more murders. The relationship between Madison and her junior partner Terry added mostly good natured conflict. The two of them sparred constantly and provided an internal story besides the murders. It didn't take many appearances by her Sergeant and the Police Chief to form the same low opinion of the men that Madison had developed. The characters are interesting and well defined. Madison is shown to be a single workaholic with a passive aggressive personality. She constantly thinks of what she coulda, shoulda, woulda done. Editing is okay except for minor occasional issues, and the plot held my attention. I recommend this story. On the negative side, there is far too much telling in narrative instead of using dialog to carry the story and inform the reader. In addition, the writing is wordy. I cringed when Layton rented a car under a phony name he'd just made up. He couldn't have had a credit card in that name, and I know from experience I can't rent a car without one. That should have been researched and caught. This story is rated 4.0 This is a review of a free book. Vigilant Reader Book Reviews.

Really good book. I finished my 1st Carolyn Arnold this morning. Now, here it is WAY past my bedtime & I’ve just finished my 2nd Carolyn Arnold book. It was just too good to put down. Now I can barely wait to read the next one!

Wonderful read!. Very believable main characters; twisted solution; well written dialogue and story. Good stuff!

Great plot, but…. The plot, with its twists and turns, kept me interested. However, for me the editing, character development and dialog left a lot of room for improvement. It was hard to relate to Madison. At one point there was a paragraph in the first person, then it switched back to third person narrative. I read the prequel and found the same issue, terrific plot, but lacking in meaningful emotions and dialog and character development. It reminded me of a B movie.

Ties that bind. Great book. Easy to read with a nice plot that isn't obvious.

Fitting title. Leads you in perfectly.. Well thought out plot and good character definition although Det. Knight is the lead the author doesn’t show her partner Det. Grant much in the way of respect though she states he’s like a brother to her. If the rolls were reversed people would be screaming discrimination. As partners you would think they would have a greater understanding of each other’s strengths rather than her running roughshod over him constantly. It doesn’t show a cohesive relationship most of the time. And her main cop obsessing over a failed relationship for 20years doesn’t show her as mentally capable of being able to see the bigger picture like she’s able on her cases. One doesn’t coincide with the other. But then I can’t write so what do I know. I did enjoy the book in-spite of my in put.

Ties That Bind. The title holds true to the story line. The author kept you in suspense and guessing who dunnit to the very end. Loved it.

She's a bit of a B. The story is pretty good, and it kept me reading to the finish. But this Knight lady is just plain mean, angry, unforgiving, vindictive, or all of the above. She really needs to lighten up. Note to authoress - if a man was constantly punching the arm of his female partner, he'd be fired. Why encourage your main character to be hitting her partner so much? It's really juvenile. No wonder people don't take her seriously - she acts like she's about eight. Seriously, if the writer is going to continue on with this character in other stories, how about making her, oh, I dunno, likeable?

Great, realistic read!. Struggled to put this one down actually, and I'm normally a love story, fifty shades kind of girl. So glad to have found this author. Love how easily the stories unfold. Highly recommend! (& I'm not one to leave reviews like...ever LOL)

Slow Read. I love to read, and when a book grabs me, I have a difficult time putting it down and often read for hours. This is not that book. The plot was fine, but the characters were not likable. I found the main character, Madison Knight, to be obnoxious and boring. There was nothing about her that was appealing. Her partner, Terry, was just as unappealing. The two of them had the most stilted conversations and showed no connection to each other. In addition, there were a number of typos and other errors. I wish I could say nicer things, but I can’t do it.

Great characters, great read!. I think this book is very good, once I started it was hard to put down. Characters are interesting, smart & easy to relate to. Keeps you on your toes to the end, well written.

Ties That Bind. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. So sorry - I stuck with it until the end. Characters never really develop, ALL are negative personalities, dialogue is lame, Maddy is harsh, bullying to a boring, ever predictable degree.

Decent but not even close to J.D. Robb. If you read that one review & purchase, it will disappoint. If not, it is a good read. There are a few areas that are confusing as to who said what. There are hints of more to the story that come across as abrupt and take away from the flow of the story due to the questions it raises. However, it is the first book in the series and the characters are being developed. I'll try the next book and see how it goes. If you don't read 3-4 books a week, you might not notice the little issues I had.

Bukreader. Finally! A central female character (flawed as she is) whose brain doesn't dissolve in hormones generated by her first exposure to hunkiness or old flames. Makes for a more consistent and less hackneyed story line, though I fail to see how anyone can function with the chocolate overload and sleep deprivation as represented in the story.

Decent :). Pretty good, nicely written, but I did predict the twist!

Interesting plot. Liked the storyline, enjoyed reading this book although in places it felt a little confusing. I guessed the twist 2 or 3 chapters before the end but it was worth the read.

Ties That Bind. This book was too silly for words even down to the title. The conversations, if you can call them that, the supposed banter between the two detectives, the interrogations were so unrealistic as to be laughable. Twins separated at birth. Oh dear. I had to give it one star to be able to submit the review; I would have liked to give it negative stars.

Ties that Bind. Good read.

Don’t waste your time. Unreadable.. Absolutely terrible writing. Not edited properly. The characters and the dialogue are are so poor, it’s as if the author has a child’s grasp of human interactions. Arnold sells herself on her knowledge of police procedure, and maybe she does have good expertise, but the books are lousy so don’t waste your time.

Great story line... I couldn’t relate to the main female detective, has a sidekick but never lets him lead, he is just a tag along ..I am reading the follow on, maybe I will warm to her by the end...but good reading anyway...

Ties that bind. Would love to read this book , downloaded but all I got was the cover of the book and empty pages . Not one page has words . Tried to download several times , still nothing . Very disappointed.

Great read. Great read highly recommend. Good job keeping my attention

Enjoyable To The End. Loved the characters, Knight is well developed and believable. After finishing one I had to read another, just about to start my forth, thanks.

Ties That Binds. Carolyn Arnold. Excellent action and suspense . You feel like you know the main characters personally.

Ties That Bind Detective Madison Knight. The storyline is good but I cannot believe Detective Madison as a real Detective would sit back so quietly if evidence was being lost or not examined in a timely fashion in a murder case. She is portrayed as smart and intuitive but an inexperienced Detective with little self confidence.
