Covert Warriors by W. E. B. Griffin & William E. Butterworth IV Book Summary

Charley Castillo and the former members of Presidential Agent’s Office of Organizational Analysis are officially “retired.” But that doesn’t mean they’re out of action…

At a Mexican roadblock, a US Embassy SUV is stopped at gunpoint, three of its passengers murdered, and a fourth kidnapped. Everything points to the drug cartels, especially when the kidnappers say they will return the hostage if a cartel kingpin is released from US federal prison. But when word gets to Castillo and his group of retired spies and special operators, they have their doubts.

They believe that it's a diversion—that the murders and kidnapping were ordered by someone to lure Castillo & Company to their deaths. But even knowing that may not save them. Powerful forces in the US government are arrayed against them as well, and if one side doesn't get them...the other side will.

What happened?. I was so looking forward to the next book in the series and I agree with the other negative reviews. No action, continuous rehashing of old story and a horrible ending. I actually thought I'd skipped several chapters when I got to the end. Before I buy another of these I'll be reading reviews to see if it is a sub-par book. Very very disappointing.

The best NON action book in the Castillo series. What happened? A big part of the book was about stuff we already learned from the previous books, but that is understandable considering that the author needs to help the first time readers. What I really don't understand is the fact that the author spent all the effort to build the story and ended the story in such weak fashion. I almost felt that WEB didn't really write this book, it simply does not live up to his name.

Disappointing. Less and less detail and more and more far fetched

Masterpiece!. You can't always have the endless action and girl getting Castillo. This is a fresh look at a plot driven book in a series that should continue for a long time. If you enjoyed the other presidential agent series then you'll absolutely love this book. Who doesn't love Charley Castillo?

Covert Warriors. I think the author has the current situation here in the United States dead in his sights. I think this work clearly demonstrates his understanding of specops and the world that these operators ply their craft in everyday. I would also say the author is a foremost authority on all branches and capabilities of our military Special Ops community. It is a damned shame our own occupant of the whitehouse can't even pronounce our ranks correctly. This book is a wonderful work of fiction, as all of his books are! He nails the subject matter and all the characters are very believable. He also has the common sense, and the military background along with much research to put it all together to create such a great novel. Semper Fi, Outrider

Disappointed with WEB Griffin. The book was great until the last chapter. The author brought the story to a conclusion like a college student trying to hand in a last minute term paper.Extremely disappointed with WEB Griffin.

Fell Short. I couldn't wait the the next book in the series, but I am afraid this one was not worth the wait. The book was lacking new material and a plot worth reading. Just as the story started to show some interest the book was quickly wrapped up. I had to double check to make sure I didn't accidentally skip some chapters. Reminded me of a poorly written college paper that copied and pasted from previous assignments and was quickly finished the night before it was due. Disappointing...

Subpar. Short on action, long on mundane discussion. I enjoy the series but this was subpar for sure - especially if someone reads it as a standalone book.

Covert. Excellent until the end. It just stopped with many loose ends. The ending was very disappointing.

Disappointment. I have been a fan for many years of both the author and the series. This column was a great disappointment. A large part of the story is dedicated to rehashing old story lines and old background, just when you think the real story will start here comes an additional chapter of repeated old material from the last story. Almost no action, sloppy conclusions, vary little of the main character is in the story. Whoever edited this book needs to find a new profession, this was terrible. I don't know who wrote this W E B or William, but they should be ashamed.

Let down.... Only WEB G book series I ever got into and felt that "Outlaws" was the beginning of the end of this series, Covert Ops proved that theory. To be fair, I enjoy all of the characters I've come to know are in there, although most only make cameos. The whole Sweaty thing I could do with out and Charley/Carlos/Karl is barely in the story...if there is a next, I hope it picks back up where Black Ops left off...

Covert warriors. WEB Griffin normally has great story and character development not his best work and the ending makes me think he cranked this out just to satisfy his publishers. Could the real WEB Griffin come back?????

Covert Warriors. Another outstanding book by Mr. Griffin/Butterworth, can't wait for the next novel to come out!

Where's the conclusion?. I've read many of Griffin's novels over the years and have enjoyed them all, but this one falls short of the mark because of a terribly weak ending. The plot develops with great detail but as it nears what should be an exciting conclusion everything just stops. It's almost as if the writer had a deadline to meet so instead of actually writing a conclusion that matches the story he wrote, "Charley saves the day, again. The End.". What a let down!

Covert warrior. Not that great a read. Story wraps up in a paragraph after a lot of backslapping an rehashing old times.

Good read, stops abruptly. I really liked this book until the end. However, at the end, it feels like 2 chapters are missing. He really should go back and finish the book. He must have been on a publish date deadline.

Why cram the ending into 10 pages. Great a book until the last few chapters. It seemed as though everything was crammed into the chapters to get the book completed. Hopefully any follow on books are planned out a little better and have the same action as all the other books in the series.

Not so much....... Others here have said it .... The ending was 100 pages too soon. The story line was set up well yet the ending was weak, too little of the earlier detail. I love this series..... BUT, please don't do this again.

covert warriors. Cluttered with poorly developed characters. Not particularly entertaining or clever. A poorly written, poorly conceived story line. Would suggest it to only those individuals that. I do not particularly like.

Very unsatisfying. A very unsatisifying book. I have been a huge Griffin fan for years but this work can charitably called mediocre. I don't think I will be buying any more of his books, these latest books have not been the caliber if books of Griffin of olde.

Covert Warriors. The books ending was terrible, it closed only one of the questions raised during the entire book. It seemed like the book was very rushed, it doesn't even follow any of the plots laid about in the back cover.

Covert warriors. Great writing as usual but the ending was both rushed and lame. I guess the author had to meet a deadline?

Enjoyable. Its always fun following the adventures of Charlie Castillo and his band of Outlaws. This one was more enjoyable than I expected, especially considering some of the reviews. The ending was a little abrupt, but I still enjoyed it.

Covert Warriors. Another great book in a long line of successes by W.E.B. However it is vastly overpriced for a e-book.

Covert Warriors. What a disappointment. This series started out strong and has only gotten worse. The flowery writing is unrealistic and out of date. Wasted words and no character development. The ending isn't even a good cliffhanger for the next book. Do not waste your time on this book.

Good...but. I think this was one book that was not up to par asbthe others in this series. The ending was horrible. Everything leading up to it was a page turner...and then it ends leaving me to wonder what just happened.

Covert Warriors. Boring and predictable. The worst of the series for sure.

Covert Warriors. A decent read. It's not as good as an early WEB Griffin book, but it's satisfying enough. It was lower on the action scale than the previous books in the series...and I'm really annoyed every time those stupid dogs are mentioned. I'll read it again

Disappointed. With the ending. Could have been a hell of a lot better. Was happy with the previous books in the series but this one could have had more. To have spent my time reading all those chapters and to end the way it did. I don't know what happened WEB. Did you just run out of content?

Can't believe I bought this. I've read almost all of Griffin's books and probably have most of them in my collection. I consider myself a huge fan and have been for the last 10+ years. I don't want to put this on the shelf with the others, it was that bad. The plot was weak and had very little in the way of character development. It seemed as if every time he started to do something with a character it digressed into a two page review of previous books. The ending was horrible, like he just ran out of time and had to end the book. Bottom line- DON'T buy it. If you must read it, check it out from a library but make sure to return it on time. It's not even worth a library fine.

Not Mr. Butterworth's Best. It is obvious someone else is writing these books, now. I spent more time reading recaps of the details than I did reading the real plot. These characters are too good to waste on such gimmicks. Write this down, Mr. Butterworth - you can do better; you should do better. What a disappointment.
