Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill Book Summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir by Clint Hill that Kirkus Reviews called “clear and honest prose free from salaciousness and gossip,” Jackie Kennedy’s personal Secret Service agent details his very close relationship with the First Lady during the four years leading up to and following President John F. Kennedy’s tragic assassination.

In those four years, Hill was by Mrs. Kennedy’s side for some of the happiest moments as well as the darkest. He was there for the birth of John, Jr. on November 25, 1960, as well as for the birth and sudden death of Patrick Bouvier Kennedy on August 8, 1963. Three and a half months later, the unthinkable happened.

Forty-seven years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the one vivid image that never leaves Clint Hill’s mind is that of President Kennedy’s head lying on Mrs. Kennedy’s lap in the back seat of the limousine, his eyes fixed, blood splattered all over the back of the car, Mrs. Kennedy, and Hill as well. Sprawled on the trunk of the car as it sped away from Dealey Plaza, Hill clung to the sides of the car, his feet wedged in so his body was as high as possible.

Clint Hill jumped on the car too late to save the president, but all he knew after that first shot was that if more shots were coming, the bullets had to hit him instead of the First Lady.

Mrs. Kennedy’s strength, class, and dignity over those tragic four days in November 1963 held the country together.

This is the story, told for the first time, of the man who perhaps held her together.

Awesome, fascinating, and extremely well written!. This book was fantastic! One of the best books I've ever read! I could not put it down! I wish I could meet Clint Hill after reading this book! This book made you feel like you knew the people in it personally, and Clint Hill does an awesome job of bringing all the characters to life as though you were living in the story, including himself, but especially Mrs. Kennedy and the other members of the Kennedy people and their inner circle. To Mr. Hill and Lisa McCubbin: Thank you for writing this wonderful book!

Thank you, Mr. Hill. Thank you so much for sharing your most personal details with us. I enjoyed every page of your book. I hope writing this has been therapeutic for you and that you and the rest of the Kennedy Detail can finally find peace.

Wonderful book!. This is a fantastic story of two people from separate worlds entering unchartered seas together. The ups and downs, the laughter and tears, they're so well-documented in this memoir of a true gentleman. This is a fascinating inside look into the life of Mrs. Kennedy and her Secret Service Agent. Such a great and easy read!

First book about the Kennedy's I ever enjoyed!. I was never a Kennedy fan and never understood what made Jackie such an icon until I read this book. Although the author is biased due to his close ties to the former First Lady, he made this book highly entertaining. It evoked every possible emotion I could feel. I am glad I read this book because I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jackie, the author and the Secret Service like I never believed I would. It is a happy, sad and tragic tale all in one. With the right actors, this could be a great movie.

An Excellent Book. Mrs. Kennedy and Me is an excellent book, very easy to read, and a book that is hard to put down. The book tells a story first hand from the author's personal memories of his years as Secret Service agent to Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. He tells his story in great detail, giving the reader the feeling they are experiencing everything with him. A tender book written with love about the most famous woman of the 20th century.

A Great look back at history. If you love history and are intrigued by the Kennedy's and Jackie O then you must read this book. The book told by the Secret Service Agent who protected Mrs Kennedy during the Kennedy Presidency goes into great detail of the life of Jackie Kennedy from 1960-1964. Enjoy!

Mrs. Kennedy and Me.. Dear Agent Hill, Thank you so very much for sharing this remarkable story with us. I have read much and many books on The Kennedy's. I enjoyed your's the most. It seemed as if I were walking beside you. Even though we all know that the 6 seconds could never be changed...I so felt your pain within your own personal responsibility. JFK chose his unfortunate demise with the open motorcade. You did a job like no other and I am truly sorry for the guilt and pain it caused you for so long. Your sacrifice to protect is valued. I now understand how much the SS does and works. Again, thank you for sharing the beloved Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy as only a protector can. Michelle Windham Head

Thank you. It's a great book. Thanks for sharing your experience with the most admired First Lady of all times. It's so touching and so well written that you can't stop reading it.

A must read. Forget about all those NYTimes bestsellers for a while, this book will absolutely change your perspective on your government, wherever you live. A must read for every citizen of the world. It is an easy reading and engages you easily, the last 100 pages will go in a blur, you won't be able to put the book down.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me. Heartfelt thanks to Clint Hill for sharing his personal history serving the nation and the presidency in this moving memoir. As he stated in the book, no one can really know what it was like to be there and experience these exhilarating and tragic events, except for those who were there. Such was Clint Hill.

A journey back when I was a 10 year old girl. This is a wonderful book. I was 10 years old attending a catholic school when the news came over the loud speaking that we were being summoned into the church to pray for the president who had been shot. I don’t remember many details of my life as a small child, but I remember details of that day. And, of the entire weekend watching tv in shock. Innocence was gone. Life was never the same. Growing up in an Irish Catholic family, from the east coast, we, of course, felt a special connection to the Kennedy’s. I didn’t understand policitcs (don’t today either) but John Kennedy was a hero to this little girl. He once came to our town (Lexington, Ky) and we drove out to the airport and stood on the main road and watched his limo make the turn into the airport. I saw his face in the back of the limo waving at the crowds. This wonderful book broght back many memories of those times, and it was wonderful that the book focused on the good years. Thanks for writing it.

Heartbreaking time in our history. My friends thought my dad looked like JFK. HE DID! We had a book in the house about president Kennedy. I used to read it...okay, look at the pictures. When I COULD. Read, I read about his funeral. I was 8 or 9? I grieved then. JFK JR. Was just a bit older than I. Thank you Mr. Hill for, as you said, archiving your first person account. We can only wonder what his second term might have brought us. RIP Mr & MRS Kennedy.

Cool. Is this book good?

Mrs Kennedy and Me. Fast moving and very readable Sad and Charming at the same time Fascinating lens into the very different world

Amazing. My mom has told me her memories of the JFK assignation. This book let me feel that with her-12 years before I was born.

Would Highly Recommend. Loved it. Great read. Clint Hill tells a great story. Highly recommend.

Mrs Kennedy and Me. Very emotional personal connection. So sorry mr hill and others didn’t properly heal emotionally from the tragedy. Excellent insight into mrs Kennedy, again very personal view.

Great book. Definitely would recommend. Really brings Jackie to life. Great read.

Beautiful. A very moving memoir about Hill’s relationship with Mrs. Kennedy

Great Book. I went into this book figuring it would be quite boring. But I loved every page, getting to know the Kennedys, a family I quite frankly have never been very interested in. I am so glad Mr. Hill wrote this book and cannot wait to hear him speak in a few weeks.

Beautiful and emotional. A beautiful and emotional account by a dedicated man who sacrificed so much personally to protect Mrs. Kennedy whom he so admired. This book is well written, and takes the reader behind the scenes into the lives of President and Mrs. Kennedy. In light of the recent Secret Service prostitution scandal, this book reminds us that the vast majority of the Secret Service are dedicated professionals who put their jobs before everything else. Mr. Hill is to be commended for his service to this country. He serves as a role model for dedication to one's profession, and as a man I respect and admire him. Thank you for writing such a beautiful and moving account.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me. What a beautiful story of a perfect lady and her Knight. The Kennedy's were Camelot, but Clint Hill was her knight. What a special story of the two of them and their times together. Reliving the the Dallas ordeal was so real. I was 8 yrs old when that happened and I remember how very sad ip felt for the kids. I remember his rocking chair on the news leaving the White House was also very sad. We always saw the whole picture with Oswald doing the shooting but, Clint gave us the story from the car and all of them not knowing if they were safe or not. It was a riveting book that held my interest through the whole time.

I couldn’t put it down. Truly enjoyable and very emotional. Thank you Mr. Hill

A Beautiful Trip Down Memory Lane.... Clint Hill paints a lovely picture of Jackie Kennedy and how in 1000 short days she charmed the nation and the world. Thank you Mr. Hill for your service to our country...God Bless You and your Family!

Wonderful. A sweet look into the life of a remarkable woman. Such a wonderful read....

Mrs. Kennedy & Me. Amazing book!

Mrs.Kennedy and Me. This is a fabulous book. I didn't want it to end. What a wonderful friendship they had!

Fluff. Very superficial and flowery.

wonderful book. This book is a well-told story of a fascinating & important family in American history. This book is written in an hones, respectful & sensitive way. Buy this book! It's hard to put down.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me. As a little girl, I admired Jackie's beautiful photo in my father's photo book on the Kennedys. Like everyone, I was drawn to her elegance and poise. Thank you for telling your experiences with her in such a respectful, kind way. Your mutual admiration for each other was apparent. And I enjoyed a glimpse into her life. I was born a few years after President Kennedy's death. Your account of that tragic day had me moved to tears, as much as for the Kennedy family, and for our nation's loss, I was saddened for yours. Thank you for sharing your story and for your service, Mr. Hill. You served your country well.

Mrs. Kennedy and me. Wow. Seeing history through Clint Hill's eyes is a spectacular journey. As a twenty-something in 1963 I remember the assassination as if it were yesterday. I saw President Kennedy speak in Cleveland during the 1960 campaign. And I sat glued to our little black and white TV screen in the days following the tragedy in Dallas. Thank you Mr. Hill for writing this book. And thank you for all you did to assist Mrs. Kennedy before and after he husband was killed.

mrs. Kennedy and me. the book was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. the entire novel had more credence based on the fact that it was written by jackie kennedy's bodyguard/secret service agent (the guy that was with her always, and also the same guy who jumps on the back of the presidential limo seconds after Kennedy was shot). I was also surprised to learn that Jackie K never really lived at the White House.

Feelings are the same!. I read every page of this book with a strange mix of empathy and familiarity as I had served as the team leader of the personal security of six prime ministers of India. There were moments when I thought Clint was actually talking about me! We worked in two different era, separated by oceans, in the US and India, but the professional ethos, feelings and emotions looked the same. This book is written in the most marvelous way it could be. May be one day I will write about my own experiences, primarily for the people of India and certainly Hill and this book will be my yardstick! Thank you so much Clint for this wonderful book!

Beautiful. This book was absolutely beautiful, just like Mrs. Kennedy. Thank you, Mr. Hill, for sharing your memories of this graceful woman with us.

Great Book. I loved how detailed everything was. Gave me a different insight on the president and the first lady, and the relationship between Jackie & Clint.

Captivating book. My heart was in this book the entire time I was reading it. This is not a gossip book but a look at the agent and Jackie K. He was with her in good and bad times and she had nothing but respect for him. I couldn't put it down. The only negative I could give it was not saying enough about their last year together after the death of the President.

Excellent Read. This is a fascinating read on a famous time in American History.

Excellent read. A very engrossing look at the inside of the Kennedy presidency without the tabloid sensationalism. Also a view of how difficult being a secret service agent really is. I had a hard time putting this down.

Quality Character. Extremely good read, easy read and entertaining! Clint Hill proving his dedication to his country with character and class. Ms. Kennedy; a woman with style, elegance, intelligence and much more.

I loved It. Thank you Clint Hill for reliving this special time of your life to share will all of us. May God bless you!

Worth Reading. If you are a Kennedy fan (and/or Jaqueline Onassis fan) this a great book from the perspective of someone who was very close to her during the time she was First Lady. He was front a center. Read it. You’ll love it!!

Beautiful, historical, graceful. This book is elegantly written using fact and elegance.

Mrs. Kennedy and me. I truly loved this book. The descriptions of the events and historical significance was outstanding. Thank you

Excellent book. I read this book in three days and couldn't put it down. It was well written and very interesting. I'm glad Mr. Hill decided to share his experiences as it is important for the historical record. Great job to all those who helped Mr. Hill produce this book and make it available to the public.

Rare insight. I am a former USSS agent. It had always been understood within the Service to never discuss the personal matters of those you protected. I was one of those who resisted the potential sensationalism and attention divulging experiences we had since we respected the office or position of those we protected. When I heard Clint was writing this book, I was naturally curious to see how he would do it. After reading it, I was glad he wrote it. Mrs Kennedy was truly a classy woman who was warm, yet dignified. I am pleased to see her remembered so fondly and thank Clint for his courage to face his past to enrich the world about this remarkable woman. While I never protected her, I did spend time with "John John", and with that responsibility came the privilege of meeting Mrs Kennedy. Even though she no longer qualified for personal protection, all John Jr's agents would have, without a second thought, protected her as well. She had earned the respect of all the agents she worked with. Clint was a legend in the Service. I personally thank him for sharing and would tell what all other agents have told him ever since that day in Dallas: he could not have done more. He was an example for those of us who followed him. Thank you Clint. You are one I will always respect and admire.

A very well written account of an interesting time.. The Secret Service officer’s account of his duty to protect the reclusive First Lady was fascinating. The president and his wife certainly had some odd habits and an even stranger relationship. I appreciate the authors giving us this insight. I hope Mr. Hill has forgiven himself, and forgiven Texas.

Always in my heart. Those times were the most happiest, hopeful times....never to return after the tragedy of losing such a magnificent man....and this endearing disclosure of those times with the our most exquisite First Lady and those beautiful children....a hero you are Mr. Hill, in more ways than one. It' an exquisite tribute. Thank you for sharing with all of us who so loved that family!

I could read this book forever. Fantastic. I couldn’t put it down. Couldn’t recommend more.

Very Interesting Book. Mr. Hill has shared with the world so much info that we would never have known otherwise. It was very interesting reading about his experience as Secret Service for Mrs. Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me. Enjoyed the book but I felt you, Clint, was more into the Kennedy life then your own. Your wife and own children had to suffer. That made me sad.
